Paper Adventures Team Hop | Australia

Paper Adventures - Blog Hop Header

Hello!  Happy 2020 and welcome to our first Paper Adventures Team hop of the year.  The theme is ‘Australia’ and I can’t wait for you to see what fun creations the team are sharing tonight.

We’re joined by guest designer Jo Stubbings – thanks for hopping with us Jo!  Jo is a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator from NSW who I met through the Just Add Ink design team.  I love her use of colour and know you will too!

There’s a few Aussie contributions in the current Stampin’ Up! range including the cute kangaroo & koala duo in the Animal Outing set, but I couldn’t go past the koala in the new Bonanza Buddies stamp set (Birthday Bonanza suite).  I used him for my Just Add Ink card last week and as hard as I tried to use something different for this hop, I kept going back.

Koalas are native to Australia and only found on the east coast of Australia – unless in captivity.  They eat only eucalyptus leaves and despite looking very cute, their claws are quite sharp and dangerous.  Most people are surprised by how heavy koalas are when they have a cuddle.

I inked the koala in Smoky Slate and stamped his eyes & nose in Memento Tuxedo Black.  The Bonanza Dies coordinate perfectly to cut him out.

The Bonanza Dies are actually one of my favourites from the Jan-June Mini Catty because they have so many options.  Not only can you cut out the animals in the stamp set, but there’s a stitched tag die (yeesss!  I’d buy the set just for this!) and some super cute bunting.

I’ve used the tag die together with a stitched rectangle cut out to create a shaker tag.  Cut the top piece with the rectangle to create a window and cover the window with Window Sheet.  Using Foam Adhesive Strips, adhere to a tag base.  Make sure to pop some super cute shaker pieces in the middle.  I’ve used From My Heart Faceted Gems, gold sequins and Night of Navy stars I made using the retired Stars Border Punch.

I picked DSP for this card in a red & blue theme, picking up the essence of the Australian flag. I love DSP and always make sure I have all the patterns.  The easier way to do this is with a DSP sampler which I release each catalogue.  This card features blue stripe & red watercolour patterns from the Peaceful Poppies DSP (Jan – June mini) and dark blue watercolour from the Lily Impressions DSP (Sale-A-Bration).

The final touches for this card were the Australian flag (printed from my computer and attached to a toothpick) and the ‘welcome’ sentiment from Animal Outing.  I thought this would make a great card for someone who is spending their first Australia Day (coming up on Sunday 26th Jan) in Australia.

The layout for this card was inspired by the Mojo Monday sketch which popped up on my Facebook feed earlier in the week.  I love sketches – they are a great starting point to get creative.  Click here to visit the Mojo Monday post.

For a bigger dose of Aussie fun, keep hopping and see what the rest of the team have made including our guest designer, Jo Stubbings, who is next on the list.

Wishing you all a wonderful Australia Day!  For those in Australia, enjoy having Monday off too!  May there be lots of crafty hours in the mix!!!

Just Add Ink #376 Add D

We recently (well it seems recently, it’s a couple of months ago!) added 5 new design team members to the Just Add Ink Design Team in guest designer roles.

I was excited to hear this week that they have all decided to stay with the design team forever!

So, a big {permanent} welcome to Denita Wright-Smee, Jackie Aitken, Jo Stubbings, Lou Kitzelman & Rachael Lewsley.

You can visit their blogs by clicking on their names above.

Some of them are joining us this week for our Just Add “D” challenge suggested by Tina.

We’d like to see something on your card that you can link to a word or theme starting with “D”.

With this challenge in mind, I was inspired to make cards for the new Design Team members.

There’s a Dapper Denim colour theme, a dazzling dragonfly, glitter dots and diamantes.

It’s fun thinking of all the ‘d’ elements!!!

The watercolour background for this card was ‘smooshed’ using ink collected from my Dapper Denim ink pad on a cello bag, spritzed with water then ‘smooshed’ onto the cardstock.

Still my favourite way to add watercolour.  I’m terrible at getting a nice even splash using my Aqua Painter – this is so simple!

The sentiment is from the “Born To Be Loved” stamp set – which I think was designed as a baby set, but the sentiments are perfect for a range of situations.

Like celebrating exciting news!

Text Ya Later!

There’s a cool new stamp set from Stampin’ Up! that I know lots of crafters will love!

It’s called Text Ya Later and it comes with 59 photopolymer stamps that give you all the builder pieces you need to make text conversations.

It’s a little sassy and a lot of fun – and I can see this being a hit with teenagers, plus pretty much anyone who owns a mobile phone!

I used it to send welcome cards to the ladies who have signed up for my Stamp Club.

The DSP is from the Color Theory DSP and each colour inspired the overall colour theme for each card.

Here’s a close up of the Berry Burst card…

They said ‘yes’ (thumbs up) and I said ‘thx! you’re the best, so excited for you, *high five*’.

I had so much fun putting it altogether.

The spiral punch across the stop of the DSP is a sneaky retired punch that I loved for the mixed of new technology & old technology, and I carried that theme through with the pen from the Crafting Together stamp set.

And since I had that stamp set out, I thought the ‘do something creative every day’ was the perfect inside sentiment for a group of crafting fanatics!

If you’d like more information about joining a Stamp Club, please email me.

The short version is – a group of 5 Australian crafters sign up to a virtual club (there’s no meetings, it’s all conducted online – so you can live anywhere in Oz!).  It runs for 5 consecutive months with a minimum spend from each participant of $50 per month.  You take turns to receive the hostess rewards.  It’s a fabulous way to slowly but surely add those things from your wishlist.

You might like to use your hostess rewards to buy the coordinating set for Text Ya Later.  It’s a host exclusive called You’re Delightful.

Sound like fun?  Let me know you’re interested by emailing me or contacting me on Facebook.

*** Stamp Clubs can only go ahead with 5 committed members.

If your wishlist is much more substantial than a $50 spend, then join me & my Paper Adventures team by becoming a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator.

There’s a fabulous joining special in July that you really can’t go past!  Click here for all the info!
