June Team Birthdays!

June was another month full of birthday in the our Paper Adventures Team!

I’m still in my matchy-match card and gift phase.  It’s fun not only matching my papercraft materials to the necklaces, but matching the necklaces to the recipients!

First up it was Cate’s birthday!  Cate joined a couple of years ago, using her birthday money to buy her starter kit.  The rest is history!

Cate loves purple!  It was tricky to get a photo of this card showing off just how lovely the Bundle of Love DSP is!

Then it was Narelle’s birthday.  Narelle is my stamping sister and the one who lead this pony to the Stampin’ Up! pond!

Paper Adventures Team Birthdays June 2017 | kelly kent

Narelle is quite partial to pink!

I used the bleach technique on the panel of this card to remove the colour from the flowers – simple but effective!

And it was also my upline’s birthday – Maxine Norrish, who once upon a time said, “would you like to join, you’ll get free paper”… And the rest is history!

These colours are perfect for the types of outfits that Maxine wears!

Happy Sunday!  This post comes to you from my idyllic camping location in country WA!

How’s the serenity???

Today at CASEing the Catty, it’s all about Warmth & Cheer – I could do with some warm right now!!!

Someone forgot to tell the Weather Man that we’re firmly in Spring!

Images © Stampin' Up!

We’re CASEing projects from pages 12-17 of the Holiday Catalogue.

I love the swirly scribbles wreath from this card on page 17.

Images © Stampin' Up!

I used it to inspire 3 completely different Christmas cards!!!

Start with a catalogue picture and think of 3 ways to change it up.

It’s a great way to craft in bulk, but ending up with 3 different finished projects.

ctc98

For the first card, I changed the orientation of the card, but kept the colours, washi strip and double layer wreath the same as the catalogue inspiration.

This is one of the easiest ways to change up a card without thinking too much about it!

The next version uses the catalogue sample as a starting point to inspire a completely different design.

I added banners instead of a cardstock & washi panel, a one layered wreath, a die cut bow and a layered sentiment.

CASEing the Catty - Warmth & Cheer. Swirly Scribbles Wreath. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com.

And the final card has the same layout, but in non-traditional Christmas colours of purple & gold.

Apart from the wonderfully clever samples that the catalogue offers, I love the versatility of the designs.

I don’t have the Be Jolly, By Golly stamp set used for the sentiment in the sample – so I just substituted words from other sets in my collection.

Most of the products used in my cards come from the Annual Catalogue – using a Holiday Catalogue sample!

I hope I’ve been able to inspire you to get into your craft room and CASE something from the Warmth & Cheer section of the Holiday Catalogue.

It’d be great if you shared your creation on the CTC page.

Stamp Review Crew – Foxy Friends

Src Foxy Friends Banner

Welcome to my final blog hop for the week – what a treat to be able to take on you on so many adventures!

Today you’re hopping around the world for the Stamp Review Crew with lots of fabulous creations with the Foxy Friends stamp set.  Plus some great ideas for using the coordinating punch!

As I often do, I’ve used this hop as a chance to extend my concept of the stamp set.

It makes cheeky foxes, cute cats, sneaky skunks, racous reindeers & many more animals!!!

But … for my project, I’ve used the embellishments that coordinate with the foxy animals to create a trio of watercolour notecards.

Stamp Review Crew - Foxy Friends stamp set. Watercolour Notecard Set. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com.

I love having ‘blank’ cards on hand for when you need a card quickly!  The embellishment stamps in the Foxy Friends set provide great all-occasion decoration!

I added the medium swirl from the Swirly Scribbles Thinlits set (I haven’t used this in a while & I was missing it!), the love heart speech bubble (this could say anything!) and a few pearls to finish it off.

I’ve been waiting patiently all week for my boxes of new fun to arrive – and they … didn’t!

So I’ve had a bit more time to play with the gorgeous In Colors and today I’m sharing my “Delightful Duos” with you.  These, in my opinion, are the best coordinating choices for each of the 2016-2018 In Colors.

ESAD 2016-17 Annual Catalogue Blog Hop - Delightful Duos . Swirly Bird/Scribbles & Thoughtful Banners. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com

Each card features the same layout but uses a different In Color – do make cards in batches like this?  It’s a great way to make a bundle of cards quickly.

Other new products that feature are the Swirly Bird stamp set, Swirly Scribbles Thinlits and Whisper White Thick Baker’s Twine.

Waiting for New Patterns … My Personal Challenge To Use the Old!

As always, when there’s new product on the way across to me, I’m pretending to wait patiently while secretly desperate to get my mittens (it’s cold here!) on fresh new stamps, dies and paper!!!

So, this week, as I ponder where I’m actually going to put all the new DSP, I’ve challenged myself to use some of the much loved & long retired DSP I have in my stash.

This is one of the cards we made at class this week using the Festival of Prints DSP (one of the old-style paper stacks!).  The style is called a Flip Flop cards and you can find Megan Dave’s video instructions here,  I have written out my adapted measurements for Australian cardstock below.

Season of Joy Flip Flop Card for my personal challenge - using retired DSP (Festival of Prints). Christmas wreath with Swirly Scribbles thinlits and Holly Jolly Greetings stamp set. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com.

This is another of those great ‘fancy fold’ greats that looks impressive but is super simple to make.  The two panels fold out so you can write your message under the front panel, but it all folds flat to put in an envelope (and keep your Christmas message hidden from everyone but the recipient!).

But … it wasn’t all old!  We used one of the swirls from the new Swirly Scribbles thinlit set to create a Christmas wreath!

I try to use only current Stampin’ Up! products in my class because it’s not fair to use a product that customers fall in love with but then can’t buy!!!  But, this card style is fabulously versatile and can be made in any DSP you own and for any occasion – just change the colours & stamps!!!

Make sure you try this – it’s lots of fun.  Thanks for Liz for sharing the inspiration.  Kelly x

It’s an ESAD Blog Hop… next week! For now, it’s more pre-order fun!

Did you visit earlier in the week and I promised an ESAD blog hop?  Well, quite a few of us were under the pump over the past week with catalogue launches, illness and generally crazy lives.  So, we’ve decided to put it off til next week.

This forms part of a really great decision I think – because by next week, many of us will have had BBBs (Big Brown Boxes) of Stampin’ Up! arrive on the doorstep and I’m anticipating some great variety of project from the new catalogue.

Not to leave you high and dry,  I still wanted to show you a few projects I’ve been working on with items from my pre-order.  These items are all now available for everyone to order (online or through your demonstrator).

This is a card we made in a class last week using one of my favourite ‘fancy fold’ designs – a Shadow Box card.  We used the Sitting Here stamp set, Playful Palette DSP and new In Colours!

Shadow Box (portrait) using Sitting Here stamp set, Playful Palette DSP & 2016-2018 In Colors. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com.

One of the greatest things about this card design is that it stands up when displayed, but folds flat for putting into an envelope.

Shadow Box (portrait) using Sitting Here stamp set, Playful Palette DSP & 2016-2018 In Colors. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com.

And then because I hadn’t made one of these in a while and the Sitting Here version reminded me how fun it was, I made another (in the landscape orientation) using some more pre-order favourites.

This little boat is from the Swirly Bird stamp set.  So, as well as stamping out some great swirls & scribbles, you can also use the pieces in the stamp set to make boats, birds, kites and more!

Shadow Box Boat Birthday Card - Swirly Birds stamp set, Thoughtful Banners stamp set & Duet Punch. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com.

Shadow Box Boat Birthday Card - Swirly Birds stamp set, Thoughtful Banners stamp set & Duet Punch. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com.

Want to make your own shadow box?  It’s really quite simple.

  1. Cut an A4 piece of cardstock in half.
  2. Keep one half (put the other aside for another project) and cut that in half again.
  3. Score 1/2″ & 1″ from each side (long side for a portrait card and short side for a landscape card).
  4. Card front: Fold the 1″ score line under and then back on itself again along the 1/2″ score line.  Cut a shape of choice between the inside score lines using a framelit & your Big Shot.
  5. Card back: Fold the 1″ score line on top and then back on itself again along the 1/2″ score line.
  6. Put adhesive on the back of the card front along the panel made between the 1/2″ & 1″ score lines and attach to the same panel on the card back.

Like to see instructional videos?  I like this one by Dawn.

Stamp, embellish & decorate your shadow box however you choose. You’re best to decorate the back panel prior to the adhesive step (#6) and depending on how you decorate your back panel, sometimes it’s best to stamp before you score (step 3).

Thanks for joining just me today.  I promise a hop filled with fabulous inspiration next week – so visit back then!!!  And tomorrow you can look forward to another Stamp Review Crew hop.  Lots of fun to be had over the coming months as everyone’s creativity bursts with new catalogue love!
