Colour INKspiration #04

colour-inspiration-banner

It’s the 3rd Wednesday day of the month, which means – another Colour INKspiration palette to inspire us all!

Thanks for joining the design crew blog hop where we will show you what these colours created on our craft tables.

Then – it’s over to you to join us on our Facebook page and upload your colour-filled creations!

If you’re already hopping around, you’ve come from the bubbly & creative Nicole Wilson.

She joined us this month, along with Jacque Williams to fill the last 2 places on the crew.

So excited to have them both on board – I love their work and can’t wait to see what they come up with for the colours each month!

There’s also a full line up of guest designers – starting today with one of my favourite bloggers – Tanya Bell.

Here’s the colours for Colour INKspiration #4 – Delightful Dijon, Elegant Eggplant, Whisper White & Crushed Curry.

Colour INKspiration #4

When thinking about these colours, for some reason they kept coming to me as a background.

Which made me think of the in-laid embossing technique.

Have you tried this?

It’s really quite easy – you cut out some shapes and adhere them to your plain background cardstock.  Then run it through the Big Shot in an embossing folder of your choice.

The embossing folder will press it all together an form one cohesive background.

Colour INKspiration #4 - In-laid embossing technique. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com.

It’s awesome and easy and makes the most of your Big Shot’s capabilities!

Using this technique for my background, I chose to make congratulations cards for our newest crew members.  Hopefully they arrive before this post goes live!!!

The first one uses the Stylish Stems flowers as the background pieces…

And the second version uses circles with a Stylish Stems embellishment –

Colour INKspiration #4 - In-laid embossing technique. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com.

I love them both!  The texture is fabulous!

And to think, I almost wasn’t going to order stylish stems!  What was I thinking???

Use whatever sets you have at home to try this technique – circles work really well.  It’s so much fun!!!

Next stop on the hop is my gorgeous friend Lou Kitzelman.

Stamp Review Crew – Sunshine Sayings

sunshine-sayings-banner

Happy Monday & welcome to the Stamp Review Crew hop featuring the Sunshine Sayings stamp set (and matching framelits!).

Though this awesome hop is full of international Stampin’ Up! demonstrators coming from different corners of the world, you’re in a bit of an Aussie patch at the moment!!!

I’m writing to you from the west coast of Australia – the south west corner in a country town called Bunbury.

If you’re not starting here, you’ve come from the gorgeous Nikki Spencer on the east coast of Australia – wasn’t her project lovely!

Don’t stop at this blog though, because after this you can click through to take you back east to visit Bruno’s blog.

I love the Sunshine Sayings bundle.

The font is just wonderful for the stamps & framelits and the ‘happy birthday’ is in high rotation on my cards because it fits so nicely in the Classic Label punch.

Since we’re showcasing the stamp set during these hops, I always try to make the stamps my feature.

With a set so heavy on words, than can be a bit of a challenge!

But there’s also the flower, leaf & stem stamps to use – so I did!

Stamp Review Crew - Sunshine Sayings. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com.

They look just beautiful when they are stamped and then coloured with the same colour ink using an Aquapainter.

I straightened out the stem and used it to create a haphazard border.

And finished it all with the stamped & die cut sentiments mounted on vellum.

You can see the extra flower on the envelope – it’s so nice to make it all coordinate!  There’s also one on the inside of the card.

Thanks for hopping with me today.  Next up is Bruno who has put his creative spin on this bundle.

If you love the designs that the demonstrators are sharing, please leave us a comment – we love to know who’s visiting!

I’d love to know where you all visit from.  Cardmaking is such an international hobby – I’m always so humbled that the internet allows us to share with each other across such great distances!

Until next time,

Just Add Ink #329

It’s been mighty busy over here at Papercraft HQ, and sooooo long since I’ve had the luxury of craft time for fun, but when I saw the photo inspiration over at Just Add Ink this week, I cleared some space and made sure to join the challenge.

Why???  Because it’s tulips – one of my absolute favourite flowers.

Ironically, my finished card features no tulips!  But it was what drew me in!

I used the colours from the photo inspiration, the theme of flowers and compact background pattern to create this….

Just Add Ink #329 Photo Inspiration. Sunshine Wishes Thinlits & Sunshine Sayings stamp set. Emboss Resist technique. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com.

The Sunshine Wishes & Sayings bundle is one of my favourites from the Annual Catalogue.  I’ve had so much use from it.

But, since I make so many birthday cards, {and not so many sunshine, hope & love cards}, it’s been on my mind how I can use the thinlits for birthday purposes.

In a moment of inspiration, I decided I’d use the ‘love’ thinlit to create a ‘birthday love’ card.

Just Add Ink #329 Photo Inspiration. Sunshine Wishes Thinlits & Sunshine Sayings stamp set. Emboss Resist technique. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com.

Of course, I could just have used the ‘happy’ with the birthday stamp instead of masking it out, but I love the font & style of the thinlits.

Did you spy the vellum feature {again}?  Vellum overlays are my current favourite trend.

{Note: It actually may not be a trend… I’m never on trend!}

I’m hoping to get back to regularly blogging soon!

I’ve got so many ideas and just not enough hours in the day!!!  Anyone got quick fix on the time issue????

A huge congrats to Joanne this month who joined Stampin’ Up! in June and has already been promoted to Bronze Elite!

She’s a star!

I wanted to celebrate the occasion for her, so I made this copper (bronze) card using the new Star of Light stamp set and Starlight Thinlits.

So pretty!  Copper foil, copper embossing folder, beautiful Star of Light swirl and silver Starlight star for contrast!

I also wanted to add a Stampin’ Up! touch to a little gift, so continuing with the copper (bronze) theme, I added a copper foil trim to this cute Typo letter.

CASEing the Catty #92 Everyday Occasions

12371218_10153736740662158_9102306381153319857_o

Welcome to another CASEing the Catty Sunday blog hop.

Today it’s all about the Everyday Occasions section of the catalogue (pages 66-91).  This section contains many of my catalogue favourites, so I’m excited to see what the crew has come up with.

Images © Stampin' Up!

I’ve used the card & bag designs on page 73 as my inspiration to create a trio of wedding cards.

I love a classic & elegant wedding card.  And nothing says wedding to me more than metallics.

Images © Stampin' Up!

The bag on the left of the inspiration picture was the starting point of my card designs.  The copper through the DSP and the textured background lead to this creation…

Did you spot the *sneak peak* items from the Holiday Catalogue?  Embossed DSP (Fancy Frost) and Copper Foil!!!

Next up was the card on the right, to create this silver stunner…

CASEing the Catty #92 - Everyday Occasions. Wedding Wishes Trio - Silver. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com.

Once again I’ve used the *sneak peak* Fancy Frost Speciality DSP.  The texture is amazing – you’ll easily fall in love with this DSP when you see it in person!

I’m not sure if all the Olympics I’ve been watching has infiltrated by crafting sub-consious, but I had a desire to make just one more card – in gold!

I carried through all the elements from the previous cards – metallic foil, Sunshine Wishes heart, Wedding Wishes label – and that beautiful Fancy Frost DSP.

CASEing the Catty #92 - Everyday Occasions. Wedding Wishes Trio - Gold. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com.

Plus, one more *sneak peak* – we’re getting gold baker’s twine. It’s so thin & delicate and just beautiful to tie.  It comes in a pack with Cherry Cobbler & Garden Green which makes it perfect for all your Christmas projects – and more!

I hope you enjoyed my tranformation from the catalogue to some clean & simple wedding cards.

Congrats All Round!

When I was selected for the CASEing the Catty design crew I was so excited!

It’s been such a wonderful experience so far – and has opened up a whole new pocket of creativity and inspiration for me.  I had never really used the catalogue for anything other than a reference book for all my favourite products.  Now, I look at all those gorgeous pictures in a totally new light!

What a lovely surprise it was to collect my mail this afternoon and open a gorgeous card from Elizabeth Gross, welcoming me onto the team.

Congrats card - made for Kelly Kent @mypapercraftjourney.com by Elizabeth Gross - lilylovespaper.blogspot.com.au.

We must have been on the same wavelength, because last week I made some congrats cards.  2 of them went over east for the other 2 new designers who joined at the same time as me – Krissy Buck and Deb Speijers.

Congrats card - Sunshine Wishes thinlits and Blooms & Bliss DSP. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com.

I made another one, just for fun – because I am totally in love with those thinlits!!!  And the Blooms & Bliss DSP has to be one of my new catty DSP favourites – the colours are divine!

Congrats card - Sunshine Wishes thinlits and Blooms & Bliss DSP. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com.

While I was sending off cards, I also wanted to send one to another CTC crew member – Rachel Palmieri who has been a long time supporter of me & mypapercraftjourney.  I remember her coming up to me at the convention event on the Gold Coast last year and saying “Hi, I’m Rachel, you don’t know me, but I read your blog and love your cards”.  I was so overwhelmed – that someone other than my Mum was reading my blog!!!

In keeping with the theme of my congrats cards, I used assorted letters & letter pieces from the Sunshine Wishes thinlits to create a ‘thanks’ for the front of my card.

Using Sunshine Wishes Thinlits letters to make 'thanks'. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com.

It’s always so much fun to create something a little different!

Thank you card - Sunshine Wishes thinlits and Blooms & Bliss DSP. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com.

I’m looking forward to catching up with some ‘old’ stamping friends at the event in November, seeing some in real life and making new ones!
