Oo-LaLa! Kissing Technique!

In my final technique blog post based on the cards we made in last week’s class, I’m sharing an oldie-but-a-goodie…

The Kissing Technique

Everyone likes kissing – right?  And we {love} stamps… so this must be amazing!

Kissing stamps involves pressing them together before you stamp them on your project.  This leaves the imprint of one stamp on the other, creating a pattern or colour change within the main stamp.

For this card, we inked up the Stylized Birthday stamp in Smoky slate and the cross-hatched stamp from the You’ve Got This stamp set in Real Red.  We ‘kissed’ the birthday stamp onto the background stamp, transferring the red ink to the Happy Birthday sentiment.  Then we stamped onto our cardstock.

This technique is great in that each project ends up with a slightly different finish!

And different colour combinations will achieve a different look.

Have a play – it’s a great experiment in trial and error!

Stamp Review Crew – Botanical Blooms

Botanical Blooms Banner

Happy Monday and welcome to the first Stamp Review Crew hop for August.

Prepare to be dazzled by the Crew’s inspiration for the Botanical Blooms stamp set.

It’s another set in the SU! range with coordinating framelits for fabulous crafting!

This set was a bit of a challenge for me – because I always go for those luscious dies.  And hardly ever ink up the stamp set.

But, challenge accepted and with a determination to only use the stamp set, I created three one-layer ‘masked’ cards using the sweet flowers, leaves & scatter stamps to create colour bursts.

Each card used masking to contain the stamped images.

Using photocopy paper and various shapes, I ‘masked’ out the white space I wanted to keep clean and stamped the Whisper White card base with a collage of Botanical Blooms.

They overlapped each other quite carelessly and I used another technique called ‘stamping off’ or ‘second generation stamping’ to create lighter tones of the same colour for some of the images.

The colour palette is Sweet Sugarplum, Pear Pizzazz, Old Olive, Blushing Bride & Mint Macaron with a striking Basic Black Archival sentiment.

The archival ink is my go-to for anything bold because the depth of colour is awesome and the image is always really solid.

The lovely bold sentiment you see is a favourite of mine – a single wood stamp set called Stylized Birthday.

I love it for the size & beautiful font!!!

I know you’re going to see lots of amazing inspiration as you keep hopping.

You can go backwards to the super stylish Mike Funke or on to the next stop for the ever-fabulous Dawn Tidd.

Putting Together The Birthday Pieces

The Stylized Birthday stamp was an instant love for me when I saw the new catalogue.  Sometimes you just need a BIG birthday stamp right in the middle of the white space!

It says it all really and that font is oh so pretty!  We know I’m a font nerd!

As I was making this card, I realised that often the same card design has so many options for how it can be put together.  This is never more apparent than in a card class where I pre-cut the pieces and participants shape their own creation & add their own touch by changing placement, layout & style….

Turn a piece of cardstock to the diagonal and the card has a whole different look.

Flip the DSP over & the style is different.

Move the pieces around and the layout changes.

Individualisation and creative opportunities are some of the things I love most about handmade designs.  No 2 are ever the same (even if you intended for them to be)!  And why would you want them to be?  That’s what printed & machine generated cards are for.

We have the personal touch.  Embrace the differences in your cards and play with the pieces.  The change might delight you!  Kelly x

PS, this card was for my upline’s birthday.  Which design do you think I sent???
