Paper Adventures Winter Retreat

Winter has hit with a vengence in south west WA – it’s wet, it’s cold and it’s windy!!!

There have been a few glimpses of sunshine before the regular winter programming returns.

Luckily, for us, stamping is an indoor sport – perfect for all weather.  Too hot – craft in the air-con, too cold – craft with the heater on!!!

Last year we started an annual Paper Adventures Retreat Day, hosted by one of our teamies who has a gorgeous residence in the Perth Hills.  2017 saw us travel up for a beautiful spring day.

2018’s planning involved a wet weather winter trek!!!  We arrived safely and had a wonderful day of crafting – and even managed to sneak some sunshine for a team photo.

Paper Adventures Team Retreat 2018 | kelly kent

Retreat days are all about the crafting and eating!!!

The eating was a shared morning tea. lunch & afternoon tea with everyone contributing something delicious for the day.  Our hostess kept us well hydrated with copious cups of tea and fabulous coffee.

The crafting was make & take style with each of us bringing a project in a box.  You make the sample, cut up the kits and put all the materials in a box.  The boxes are passed around and each crafter makes & takes home one of each design.  It needed to be easy enough to make with minimal instruction within a 30 minute time frame.

I wanted to share the new embossing mat with the team, so this was my card for them to make…

Embossing Mat | kelly kent

The butterfly is from the new Sprintime Impressions Thinlits but instead of cutting it, we layered it with the Embossing Mat to leave the outline on the cardstock.

Embossing Mat | kelly kent

Other supplies in this card are Nature’s Poem DSP, Stitched Label & Stitched Shapes Framelits and Hanging Garden stamp set.

Because each person created with a different box and created a different card in each time slot, I offered an alternative layout using the same pieces –

Embossing Mat | kelly kent

This is always a fun way to create a ‘different’ card but not having to completely design.  Design & colour choices are always the most complex part of creating cards.

Embossing Mat | kelly kent

Thanks to our Paper Adventures team for being wonderful – they really are the loveliest people I know!!!

Long Weekend Love

We are currently enjoying a long weekend in Western Australia – WA Day to be exact!  After a rainy & windy week, the sun is shining and it’s going to be a lovely weekend of craft & family time here at Papercraft HQ.

My long weekend started yesterday with a gorgeous wedding.  The location was amazing in the rolling hills of Margaret River (about an hour south of here).

The wedding card a mix of my Stampin’ Up! supplies and the wedding invite.

Delightfully Detailed Wedding Card | kelly kent

The new Delightfully Detailed Laser Cut Specialty DSP is sensational for so many types of cards – including wedding cards!!  It’s already cut, so you just need to trim the pieces to size and oh-so carefully adhere them to your card.

Although I’m yet to work my way through my new catalogue wishlist, the Stitched Labels are still absolutely at the top of my must-have list.

Stitched Labels | kelly kent

The sentiment is from my favourite host set in the new catalogue – Hand Delivered.

I love the personal touch of using the styling of the invite to create the design of the card – but it’s even better when I can take parts of the invite and reuse them.

The twine on the card is from the invite and I’ve reused the lace strip too.

Money Pocket Card | kelly kent

The bride and groom have been together for many years and have already set up house, so they asked for any wedding gifts to be money towards their honeymoon.  It’s a great reason for another embellishment in the card!

I used the envelope punch board to create a pouch inside the card to keep the money safe.

Money Pocket Card | kelly kent

Wishing the new bride & groom lots of happiness in the next stage of their adventure together!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Just Add Ink #404 | Shaker

Are you up for a fun weekend challenge?

Just Add Ink are adding….. {SHAKERS}

Image may contain: text

There’s something about sequins, sparkles & moving pieces that take a card to the next level!

See all the design team shaker cards on the Just Add Ink Blog.

You can also add your own shaker card to the challenge gallery.

I was inspired by the works of Jackie Aitken this week – a fellow JAI design team member.  Jackie has been posting some seriously awesome pocket cards lately and I wanted to try it out!

This is my version styled using the Picture Perfect Party suite…

Picture Perfect Party Shaker | kelly kent

The shaker element is hiding in the pocket….

Picture Perfect Party Shaker | kelly kent

A little unorthodox, but I’m planning for Miss Papercraft to use a sharpie and write the birthday message onto the vellum!!!

Picture Perfect Party Shaker | kelly kent

Did you spy the coordination between the Picture Perfect Party DSP – confetti photography & the circle shaker pieces.  Such a simple shaker insert to make using 3/4″ circles in the coordinating colours – Berry Burst, Bermuda Bay, Lemon Lime Twist, Peekaboo Peach & Whisper White.

Picture Perfect Party Shaker | kelly kent

The Picture Perfect Paper Ribbon was a late withdrawal from the Occasions catalogue due to supply issues.  It doesn’t matter though – it’s so easy to make using a strip of cardstock sewn down the middle & finished with paper snips.  Cute paper ribbon in any colour!!

Nothing says happiest birthday wishes like these colours do!  I can’t wait to make some more fun & bright pocket cards!!!

Just Add Ink #400 | Photo Inspiration

Wow!!!  Just Add Ink celebrates 400 challenges this week!

Thank you for all your support of each & every challenge – from visiting the main blog to support the design team to joining in with challenges.  THANK YOU!!!

Challenge #400 is a fabulous specked egg photo inspiration…

No automatic alt text available.

It might help to get you in the mood for some Easter creating, or might be great colours for a baby card!  Whichever way the photo inspires you, I can’t wait to see what you upload to the blog to get you in the mood for some Easter creating. for you 400th challenge!

I went Easter – being a good opportunity to be organised for some Easter gifts this year!  It feels good to have something done prior to the night before!

I like to maintain I work best under pressure – but the sense of achievement is a nice (if unique) feeling!

The photo inspired me to head to the chocolate isle and pick up some speckled chocolate eggs (called Mini Eggs… since when???).

And create some specked DSP using the Eclectic Expressions stamp set (exclusively available during Sale-A-Bration)….

Speckled Egg DSP | kelly kent

Which I then used to turn into speckled egg bon-bons…

Easter Bon-Bons | kelly kent

I used the instructions on my Stamping Sunday Naturally Eclectic post, but adjusted the size to be able to get 2 pieces from an A4 pieces of Whisper White thick cardstock.

Here’s the revised instructions for A4 cardstock (click the link above for some helpful photos):

  • Cut a piece of A4 cardstock in half (at 5-7/8″ along the long edge) = 5-7/8″ x 8-1/4″
  • Score (going down the long edge, across the short edge) at 1-3/8″, 2-3/4″, 4-1/8″ & 5-1/2″
  • Fold along the first score line and insert into the Envelope Punch Board at 1-3/4″ and punch
  • Repeat for all score lines (fold, punch) and finally without any folding on the edge
  • Do the same for each score line, 1-3/4″ from the other edge
  • Adhere along the small strip to create a box shape
  • Finish with ribbon on each end & embellishments on top

Easter Bon-Bons | kelly kent

The sentiment is from my trusty ‘all occasions’ stamp set – Teeny Tiny Sentiments in a Stitched Oval Shape with Mini Silver Sequin Trim & Pool Party Shimmer Ribbon.

Easter Bon-Bons | kelly kent

Having chocolate as a prop in the photo was a fabulous idea – someone had to eat it afterwards!  We’ll call that quality control!!!

Thank you for joining me today.  I hope you get the chance to join our 400th challenge – or make some Easter bon-bons!  Or eat some chocolate (lets keep the goals achievable!).

Stamping Sunday Blog Hop | Lots of Happy

Hello everyone!  It’s been a little quiet on the blog this week as I balance finding some craft time together with going back to work.  10 weeks of long service leave went way too quickly!!!

I’m checking back in today with the Stamping Sunday Design Team to share ideas for two of the kits in the Occasions Catalogue.

Join the team as they share spin off designs & projects from the Lots of Happy Kit & Perennial Birthday Kit.

For the full link up list, click on the cute little blue froggie.

View the kits in the online store by clicking on the links below…

The Lots of Happy Kit is an all-inclusive kits and supplies all the materials you need for 20 cards including envelopes.  You’ll also get a stamp set to keep, black ink spot, 4 watercolour pencils, ombre ribbon and dimensionals.  2 of the Watercolour Pencil colours are exclusive to this kit!  You may like to purchase an Aqua Painter to use with the Watercolour Pencil if you don’t already own one.

The Perennial Birthday card coordinates with the gorgeous Perennial Birthday stamp set.  You can choose to use stamps you already have in your collection to finish this kit or purchase the Perennial Birthday stamp set to use with the kit.  This kit has supplies for 16 cards, including envelopes and a beautiful storage box for the finished set of cards – complete with dividers.

All Stampin’ Up! kits come with written instructions and videos are available on the Stampin’ Up! YouTube channel.  Click here to visit.

I love using the kits as extra supplies in my stash to create some different designs.

Today I’m sharing three cards I’ve made using supplies from the kit together with the Wood Textures DSP.

Lots of Happy Kit | kelly kent

The first card I made used the flower cut out from the kit, the watercolour pencils and the ‘lots + lots of happy’ sentiment.

Lots of Happy Kit | kelly kent

By changing the background to the Stitched Shapes squares cut from a series of scraps I had from another Wood Textures DSP project, I was able to change the look from the card kit designs to something completely different!

Continuing on with the Wood Textures theme, I used another sentiment to create a birthday card…

Lots of Happy Kit | kelly kent

And a final one using the Waterfront stamp set and another sentiment from the Lots of Happy Kit…

Lots of Happy Kit | kelly kent

This stamp set is photopolymer so I’ve cut the thank you part away from the ‘for being a friend’ part so I can use just the thank you or join it back together on the block and use all of it.

I love that the all-inclusive kits give you a stamp set to keep!  They are always full of a variety of useful sentiments.

If you’d like to store yours with your other stamp sets, you can purchase the clear cases as a pack of 4 and download & print the case cover by clicking on the link image below.

It’s a delight to stamp with!  The flower is pretty – but the butterfly…. oh my!!!

Beautiful Butterfly | kelly kent

For this card, I heat embossed the butterfly in gold on vellum and coloured using Rich Razzleberry & Pink Pirouette Stampin’ Blends to create a stained glass effect.

CASEing the Catty #157 | Case a Colour Combination

How’s your Christmas card prep going?

I’d like to say I’m organised, but Christmas is coming at me so fast…!

Thankfully, there’s challenges like CASEing the Catty to keep me inspired with new card designs each week.

This week at CASEing the Catty, we are finding inspiration from a colour combination within the pages of either the Annual Catalogue or Holiday Catalogue.

No automatic alt text available.

Since I’m on a mission to get some Christmas cards created, I chose the colours from the Merry Little Christmas suite – pages 10-13 of the Holiday Catalogue.

I love the contrast of the Black & Old Olive . It’s not quite modern, not quite traditional!!

This is my card using an eclectic mix of some of my favourite Stampin’ Up! products…

CASEing the Catty #157 | kelly kent

I love mixing and matching the items in my collection – it means you’re always sure to get an interesting finish.

CASEing the Catty #157 | kelly kent

Here you can see…

CASEing the Catty #157 | kelly kent

I’m calling this one stylishly modern!

Painted Wreath

How’s your Christmas card prep going?

I’d like to say I’m organised, but Christmas is coming at me so fast…!

I have some designs worked out and some time planned to create!  That’s a good start – yes??

Here’s one of my latest cards using the Painted Harvest flower as a wreath.

Painted Wreath | kelly kent

I have no idea who to credit the original wreath adaptation to, but what a cool idea!  From sunflower to Christmas wreath!

Painted Wreath | kelly kent

I coloured some pearls with the dark Cherry Cobbler Stampin’ Blend to make textured berries on my wreath.

The wreath is stamped in Pear Pizzazz for the bottom/fuller layer and Garden Green for the top/smaller layer.

Painted Wreath | kelly kent

I can’t wait to have my cards made and send some happy around the world.

And I’ll be checking my letterbox for happy mail of my own!  The joys of having stamping friends is knowing you’ll blessed with some handmade goodness.

Colour INKspiration #19

Thanks for joining us for another Colour INKspiration challenge.

Can you believe we’re up to #19???  Your support has been amazing!

If you haven’t joined us yet over on Facebook, click here to be taken to our Facebook group.

Let me share the colours for challenge #19 with you – they are divine!!!

Image may contain: outdoor

Yellow, gray & white is one of my all-time favourite colour combinations.

I admit, I don’t love the green in there (for the project I wanted to make) but the design team have used it as a wonderful contrast.

October happens to be an anniversary month for friends of mine.

And, by happy coincidence, their wedding colours were yellow & gray!

How amazing was the beautiful yellow bridesmaid dress I got to wear – total princess moment!

kelly kent | mypapercraftjourney

So, I’ve used this challenge to make a sweet anniversary card…

Colour INKspiration #19 | kelly kent

As a striking background, I’ve used the silver snowflakes in a repeated pattern.

Colour INKspiration #19 | kelly kent

The anniversary sentiment is courtesy of the Number of Years stamp set.

‘Anniversary’ was too long for the Classic Label punch, so I had to improvise using a pencil & template!  It’s always fun to be creative with our cardmaking pieces!

Colour INKspiration #19 | kelly kent

As for Garden Green – I snuck it in for the ‘th’!

I would have been totally happy to leave it out – but the challenge rules made me hide it there!

This wasn’t the only anniversary card I needed to make for October.  It seems October is a popular month for weddings amongst my friends!

Another set of friends are celebrating one sweet year together.

This is their card….

1st Wedding Anniversary | kelly kent

I made it to match the colours & styling of their wedding card.

1st Wedding Anniversary | kelly kent

The anniversary sentiment for this card came from the Milestone Moments stamp set.  I love that font!!

1st Wedding Anniversary | kelly kent

Do you send anniversary cards to the couples whose weddings you’ve attended?

I’ve tried hard over the years, but since my record keeping system is scattered (and that’s a kind description!), they often sneak up on me!!!

A card in the mail is always wonderful, especially when it’s not expected.

#makeacardsendacard

That is all I have to share with you today!

Please continue the hop to see the fabulous project my gorgeous friend Lou Kitzelman has made using these colours…

Don’t forget, you can join in the challenge fun over on the Colour INKspiration Facebook group.

Thanks for hopping with us!

Product List – 5th Anniversary Card

Product List – 1st Anniversary Card

Hello Ladybug | FMS#307

I was shopping during the week and saw a super cute singlet that reminded me of a gorgeous friend of mine.

And of course, a super cute spontaneous present needs a matching handmade card.

It’s been a while since I’ve made anything using punch art – so this was fun!

Hello Lady Bug | kelly kent

The overall card design was inspired by the current Freshly Made Sketch.

It should have finished last week – but a technical glitch means they’ve kept it open – lucky for me!

Red, white & black is always a great colour combination.

I added in a touch of silver to brighten it up.

Hello Lady Bug | kelly kent

The bugs are made using the 3/4″ circle punch, shapes from the Cookie Cutter Builder Punch & the small leaf shape from the Eclectic Layers Thinlits.

Make your own ladybug:

Antenna – small leaf with all but top circle cut away from the stem

Head – largest circle from Cookie Cutter

Body (top) – 3/4″ circle cut in half & separated slightly

Body (bottom) – 3/4″ circle trimmed at top edge so it’s not visible

Dots – smallest circle from Cookie Cutter

Here’s another little bug hanging out on the inside…

Hello Lady Bug | kelly kent

And here’s a picture of the card with the inspirational gift…

Hello Lady Bug | kelly kent

In a week filled with some bad news stories & terrible world events, let’s flood our personal spheres with kindness!

Send a pretty card, help someone out & smile often.  Bring out your best!!!
