Just Add Ink #455 | Sympathy

Some challenges are a fun way to provide inspiration and an excuse to get into the craft room.  The theme for Just Add Ink this week is “Just Add Sympathy“.

It was going to be a challenge where I created a card for my stash for another time.  Sadly, my friend shared the news that her Gran had passed, which meant this card was specially made to let her know I’m thinking of her.

Wonderful Romance | kelly kent

I’ve used the spotlight technique for this card.  Using my Stamparatus, I stamped the floral images from Wonderful Romance twice – in exactly the same place on two identical pieces of cardstock.

I adhered one piece to the Whisper White Thick cardstock base.  The second piece I coloured using Stampin’ Blends and then cut (in the middle of the cardstock piece) using the Stitched Rectangle Framelit.

Lining up the images, I layered the coloured & cut cardstock over the base layer.  For extra pop, I adhered with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Wonderful Romance | kelly kent

The beautiful flowers in the Wonderful Romance stamp set work so well for this technique.  It would work well with other large solid line stamps that you can colour too.

Wonderful Romance | kelly kent

Wonderful Romance (and the coordinating dies – not used here) are on the Last Chance Retirement List and will only be available until 3rd June 2019 – or supplies sell out.  See all retirement list items in my online store – click here.

We’d love to have you join our challenge.  Share your sympathy cards on the Just Add Ink blog.  You’ll also find all the design team cards there – it’s a wonderful resource for the next time you have a sympathy card to make!

Thanks for stopping by today!

It’s an Animal Expedition for Miss 8

8 years ago I was in labour with the first of our Miss Papercrafts.  She took her time coming, so technically her birthday isn’t until tomorrow, but we’re back on deck with Colour INKspiration tomorrow so I thought I’d do a sneaky share today (thankfully she doesn’t read my blog!)

Usually for birthdays I match the theme of the card with the party or present theme.   Now that she’s getting older, her presents are often experiences and opportunities – which don’t always translate well to cards.

So this year, I did something I’m not sure I’ve done before – I asked her what she wanted on her birthday card.  No surprises from our future Vet, she asked for animals.

Animal Expedition | kelly kent

The Animal Expedition DSP made for a fun & pretty card base. This DSP is awesome – I just love the colouring, style and different animal choices.

Animal Expedition | kelly kent

I added a birthday sentiment panel using the large circle from Swirly Frames, words from the Piece of Cake stamp set and a glittery number 8 using retired Large Numbers and Myths & Magic Glimmer Paper.  I find myself using quite a few of my retired products lately – I love keeping things that are just perfect for a card down the track.

Animal Expedition | kelly kent

The stamps in the Swirly Frames set are fabulous for adding detail to plain shapes.  It’s been on my shelf for a while, but it wasn’t until this week that I got it inky.

Here’s an iphone quickie (while it’s still on my work space!) of a card I made for a custom order during the week using the rectangle frame…

A Little Wild | kelly kent

What stamp set is sitting on your shelf needing some love?

If there’s one thing stampers are good at, it’s collecting supplies and forgetting to send cards!  I’m running behind on my February birthday cards – hoping to get them posted very soon!

Kelly’s Stamping Friends – Birthday Blog Hop A

No automatic alt text available.

Hello!  It’s my birthday and I can’t think of a better way to celebrate than a blog hop with my fabulous stamping friends.

Actually, I’m feeling very loved on my birthday evening as I hop with two wonderful groups of stamping friends.

This is blog hop A – the first list.  There’s another thread which features blog hop B – the second list (click here to visit).  You don’t want to miss the creations on the other side!!!

There’s no theme for tonight.  Everyone is simply sharing with us something they’ve made that they love.  In this crazy busy life, we sometimes need an excuse just to create for fun, for love and to be creative.

My birthday falls at a wonderful time of the Stampin’ Up! catalogue cycle.  I get to spoil myself each year with new Stampin’ Up! and call them birthday presents.

The card I am sharing for blog hop A uses some of those birthday presents – Share What You Love DSP, Hand Delivered (Host) stamp set & Lined Alphabet stamp set.

Hand Delivered Pop Up Slider Card | kelly kent

This style of card is called a Pop Up Slider Card and I first saw it for my birthday a couple of years ago when Nicole Wilson sent one to me!

The middle panel slides up to reveal a hidden message in the centre.

Hand Delivered Pop Up Slider Card | kelly kent

For this card, I added to the birthday message using the Lined Alphabet stamp set messily coloured (to match the style of the DSP) using the Stampin’ Blends.

Hand Delivered Pop Up Slider Card | kelly kent

The balloons are also coloured with the Blends.  Currently they are unorderable, but they’ll be back soon with new colours in the collection!!!  I’m excited to get my hands on those!

Hand Delivered Pop Up Slider Card | kelly kent

This special card will be going to my birthday buddy – my mother-in-law!

Do you have a birthday buddy?  Someone you share your celebrations with every year?

Many thank you to all my stamping friends who have joined me today to share in my celebrations through this hop!

Next up on hop A is my stamping bestie – Lou Kitzelman.  So happy she’s part of my birthday!

WA Demo Retreat Blog Hop

No automatic alt text available.

Today I’m taking part in a fabulous blog hop  – it celebrates the make & take projects that were part of our recent WA Demo Retreat Day.

30 Stampin’ Up! demonstrators from the Perth & South West areas of Western Australia spent the day together crafting, laughing and sharing what we love.

The feedback from the event, which Nicole Wilson & I organised together, has been awesome and I have no doubt there will be another one on the horizon!

The day started at 9am with morning tea, coffee & networking before sitting down for some serious stamping!

Each participant brought make & take project and completed 12 other projects throughout the day.  The variety was awesome and I loved being able to play with stamp sets I don’t own & try techniques I hadn’t done before.

This was my make & take using the Petal Palette stamp set and the masking technique.

Petal Palette for WA Demo Retreat Day | kelly kent

Between making this card and this blog hop going live, Stampin’ Up! has put the Stampin’ Blends into unorderable mode.  They were just so popular that the factory couldn’t keep up with demand.  I know many of you already own a set of Blends, so here’s the instructions anyway.  If you don’t, bookmark this for when the Blends return in late May 2018.

To make this card, you need:

  • Card base: Smoky Slate – 4-1/8″ x 11-3/4″ / 10.5cm x 29.7cm (half A4), scored at 5-7/8″ / 14.8cm
  • Card mat 1: Rich Razzleberry – 3-7/8″ x 5-5/8″ / 10cm x 14.3cm
  • Card mat 2: Whisper White – 3-5/8″ x 5-3/8″ / 9.8cm x 13.8cm
  • Card insert: Whisper White – 3-7/8″ x 5-5/8″ / 10cm x 14.3cm
  • Scrap of Sweet Sugarplum cardstock with Multi-Purpose Adhesive Sheet on the back
  • Piece of copy paper slightly larger than mat 2 (approx 3-3/4″ x 5-1/2″ / 10cm x 14cm)
  • Pearls
  • Whisper White Baker’s Twine
  • Stampin’ Blends: Rich Razzleberry Light & Dark, Pink Pirouette Dark, Old Olive Light & Dark, Smoky Slate Light
  • Tuxedo Black Memento Ink
  • Rich Razzleberry Ink
  • Petal Palette stamp set
  • Petals & More Thinlits
  • Adhesive of choice (Tape & Tear / double sided tape, Tombow, Snail, Fast Fuse)
  • Repositionable tape or washi tape
  • Wink of Stella

Petal Palette for WA Demo Retreat Day | kelly kent

To make:

  • Cut a circle towards the top middle of your copy paper.  I used the 2-3/4″ / 7cm Layering Circle Framelit.  Discard the circle & keep the rectangle piece of copy paper
  • Adhere to mat 2 using repositionable tape or washi tape on the reverse side
  • Stamp the large flower in the space left by the missing circle and then stamp the smaller flowers to fill in the gaps
  • Allow 5 mins to dry, leave the mask in place
  • Cut the lattice die from the Sweet Sugarplum cardstock while you are waiting
  • Leaving the mask where it is, colour the flowers using Rich Razzleberry & Pink Pirouette Blends and the leaves using Old Olive Blends
  • Taking care around the edges of the circle, colour the background of the circle in Smoky Slate.  If you sweep from the copy paper across to the middle of the circle, you should find it contains better than if you go towards the mask.
  • Once you’ve finished colouring, gently remove the mask.
  • Stamp the Best Wishes sentiment in the bottom right corner (Rich Razzleberry)
  • Add the lattice die cut and wrap & tie the baker’s twine around mat 2.
  • Adhere mat 2 to mat 1 and then this piece to the card base.  Adhere the card insert to the middle of the card.
  • Finish your card with pearls along the lattice and Wink of Stella on the flowers.

Stamp Review Crew | Petal Palette

Hello Monday – the third Monday of February, which means I’m hopping with the delightful Stamp Review Crew.

This talented group of Stampin’ Up! demonstrators hail from all around the world.  This week we’re sharing designs with the super popular stamp set Petal Palette.

Get ready for some amazing designs to inspire you!

My absolute favourite from this stamp set – the one stamp that has been overworked – is the large trio of flowers.

So, that was my first creation…

Petal Palette | kelly kent

I used the no-line watercolouring technique to colour the flowers.

Ink the stamp in a soft colour (I prefer Sahara Sand) and stamp onto scrap to remove most of the colour, then again onto your piece of Whisper White.

Use an Aqua Painter to go over the image lines and shade within the flowers/leaves.

Petal Palette | kelly kent

For my second card, I set myself a challenge to use the other stamps in case 2.

This was the result…

Petal Palette | kelly kent

And I’m so happy with how it turned out!!!

It can be fun outside of the comfort zone!

Petal Palette | kelly kent

My tip for creating outside of your usual style or realm is to keep as much the same as you can.  For this card I chose colours I know I like (yellow, gray, white & black are a favourite combination of mine) and a layout & stamping style I’ve used before.  All I had to do was slide the stamps into the design and we have a card!!!

Petal Palette | kelly kent

If you haven’t added this set to your supplies yet, I bet this blog hop is going to drive it straight to the top of your list!

Keep hopping and visit my gorgeous friend Lou Kitzelman.

Lou and I have been chatting lots lately while we plan some great projects to share with you in the future.  Watch this space!!!  Click here to visit the Stamp in Confidence blog.

CASEing the Catty | #165 Sale-A-Bration

Hello Sunday!  And welcome to a CASEing the Catty blog hop, where the design team shares their creative inspirations from the pages of the Stampin’ Up! Catalogue.

Today’s theme is Sale-A-Bration…

No automatic alt text available.

You’ll see a range of projects inspired by the samples of the 2018 Sale-A-Bration catalogue.

I loved the ombre effect of the sample at the bottom of this photo on page 17…

So I set about making this feature the centrepiece of my card.  I think the sample used cardstock for their letters.  I created something similar using the Stampin’ Blends and Shimmery White Cardstock.

Celebrate 'Amazing' You | kelly kent

I coloured across the cardstock for this card….

Celebrate 'Amazing' You | kelly kent

Here’s what it looked like before I die cut –

Ombre colouring with Stampin' Blends | kelly kent

Colours:

  • Light Pink Pirouette, Dark Pink Pirouette, Light Rich Razzleberry, Dark Rich Razzleberry
  • Light Night of Navy, Dark Night of Navy, Dark Bermuda Bay, Light Bermuda Bay
  • Light Daffodil Delight, Dark Daffodil Delight, Dark Pumpkin Pie, Light Pumpkin Pie

Here’s a close-up of the die cuts.  I backed the cardstock with Multipurpose Adhesive Sheets before I ran it through the Big Shot – it makes it so easy to stick them on with no fuss or mess!

Celebrate 'Amazing' You | kelly kent

I coloured down the cardstock to get this style of ombre…

Celebrate 'Amazing' You | kelly kent

Here’s the pre-cut cardstock

Ombre colouring with Stampin' Blends | kelly kent

Colours –

  • Dark Pink Pirouette, Light Rich Razzleberry, Dark Rich Razzleberry
  • Light Night of Navy, Light Bermuda Bay, Dark Bermuda Bay
  • Light Daffodil Delight, Dark Daffodil Delight, Dark Pumpkin Pie

Celebrate 'Amazing' You | kelly kent

The twine – which started white – was also coloured using Stampin’ Blends by running it under the brush tip along a clear stamping block.  To get a slightly ombre effect, I

The addition of the ink from the blends makes it a bit thicker & more rustic, so I was able to curl the ends slightly using closed scissor blades.

I will never tire of my Blends!!  Have you got yours?  There’s lots of colours but if you add a couple of colours to each order you place, you’ll have a gorgeous set before you know it!

We’re just short of half way through the Sale-A-Bration promotion.  Which means there’s still plenty of time to earn your rewards – and also 4 new items to look forward to very soon.  The second Sale-A-Bration release starts on 16th Feb!!!

Next up for the design crew is Mel Pagano and her super cute Hedgehugs creation….

Thanks for joining us,

Elf in A Box

Earlier in the year I had a custom order for a card to be sent overseas. And I realised I hadn’t shared it with you!

It’s the perfect Christmas Eve creation to share – full of joy & fun!

It needed to be something that could sit up & be displayed on the mantle, but could be posted flat – a card in a box was the perfect fold.

Elf in a Box | kelly kent

I really like Di Barnes’ tutorial & measurements for making a card in a box.  Click here visit her blog.

I wanted to make the card look like a present filled with presents!

Here it is folded flat…
