And then this happened …

So, last weekend we had the misfortune of being in the path of a tornado.  It was a crazy 60 seconds that left a trail of destruction.

It was a close call for my craft supplies – they were on the other side of this window…

We’re still cleaning up broken glass (I’m thinking of a new technique involving glass shards…) and sorting through the mess.

Despite the chaos I have many things to be thankful for.  No one was hurt.  Things are broken – but things can be fixed.  My craft wall survived the impact.

But, apart from the safety of my family, the thing I am most grateful for is the help I received to clean up.

So, after the dust had settled, it was time to make some thank you cards.  Here’s what I came up with for some very special people whose kindness & generosity was amazing.

Thank you!  I really, truly don’t know what I would have done without your help.  Kelly & the windswept little misses x

Summertime Candy Birthday Bash Showcase!

Paper and all things papercraft have been a major feature in my life for the past 5 years.  Before that I did an array of crafty things (sewing, knitting, cross-stitch) but nothing made me buzz like paper.  I am grateful on a daily basis to have found a hobby that’s so engaging, gives me such pleasure and has allowed me to be involved with lovely like-minded people.

As well as being a paper & stamp addict, I also have a ‘real’ job as a Speech Pathologist.  I work with young children helping them develop their communication skills.  This is also engaging, gives me pleasure and is a lovely community.  Funnily enough, quite a few of the people I went to uni with have ended up taking crafty pathways also.  One of those is Joni who owns Imahlia Designs – an accessory business based in Karratha, WA.  Her business has been an amazing success and to celebrate her long time love of handmade gorgeousness and the first birthday of her own handmade adventure, she organised an online birthday party!

The theme for the birthday bash was “summertime candy” and she provided some great inspiration pictures to get us all started.  I’ve lost track of how many talented handmaidens contributed to the showcase – there’s so many amazing contributions including dolls, clothes, accessories, party items & room decor.  It started last night with a bang! and continues through until tomorrow afternoon.  You can see the full range of items available here.

My contribution was a Sweet Stack Birthday Party set:

The main item in the set is the hundreds & thousands shaker invite using Build a Birthday stamp set, Endless Birthday Wishes stamp set & Lots of Labels framelits.  Thanks to Kylie Bertucci for the 100s & 1000s inspiration!

imageThere’s also a Sweet Stack birthday party favour box using the Cutie Pie thinlits, Sweet Stack stamp set & Work of Art stamp set:

And a marbled thank you card made using the baby wipe technique and Watercolor Thank You stamp set.

I also decided to ‘sweeten the deal’ and include a set of gold sparkly star cake toppers made using the new Medium Star punch:

It was such a fun set to make.  Hopefully it sells in the showcase, but I’ll be secretly happy to keep them to use myself if they don’t!  The hundreds & thousands shaker invites are too cute – hours of shake-shake-shake fun!

Happy 1st Birthday to Imahlia Designs.  Joni’s put together the most incredible showcase and is a delight to work with.  Wishing her & her business every success.  If you see something in the showcase that you’d like to buy, use the codeword ‘sweets’ when you comment sold.  Kelly x

Another Thank You & A New Sneak Peak!

I had a customer message me this week to ‘thank’ me for her copy of the new catalogues – “all afternoon plans went on hold as I laid on my bed with the aircon on, perusing the paperwork”.  Perfect way to spend an afternoon if you ask me!

This card features the truly stunning Painted Blooms DSP from the 2015 Occasions catalogue.  It went perfectly with the card I wanted to make for Alexa’s day care room staff who have nurtured her socially, academically & spiritually (the kids do yoga!!!) during 2014.  It’s been a delight to take her there each week and we will miss the fabulous staff and their influence.  Kelly x

Better Bokeh – Just Add Ink 242

I’ve been itching to practice my Bokeh – it’s such a lovely technique.  So, when I saw the photo inspiration at Just Add Ink this week, it gave me the chance to have another go.  Look at those colours!

This one is definitely better – but I need to remember that the Whisper White Craft Ink dries much lighter than it goes on, so needs to be boldly applied.  And not even Jet Black Staz On likes stamping on the craft ink!  The Blendabilities did a great job of colouring the rhinestones though, so they fit with the pretty colour theme.

This video (which doesn’t use Stampin’ Up! products but you’ll be able to use watercolour paper, SU! reinkers and WW Craft Ink) is a great tutorial if you want to have a go at home.  Kelly x

Specialty Paper: Watercolour

Cardstock: Whisper WhiteTempting Turquoise

Reinkers: Daffodil Delight, Tempting Turquoise, Pacific Point

Ink: Jet Black Staz On, Whisper White Craft

Blendabilities: Daffodil Delight

Stamp: Watercolor Thank You

Embellishments: Rhinestone Basic Jewels

Extras: Sponge Daubers

Feathers with a Sprinkle of Gold

There’s always choices in life where people fall in one group or the other – rose or lavender … scrunch or fold …  silver or gold …

I have always been a silver kind of girl.  But I’m finding myself LOVING gold of late.  I wanted to make a thank you card that was classic & elegant and without thinking, picked up the gold embossing powder.  I loved it so much, I made another version (still in gold) with ‘Happy Birthday’.

So, I’ve come to realise that maybe I’m both kinds of girl at the moment (don’t tell anyone but I actually quite like rose a-n-d lavender these days!!!).  Where do your allegiances lie?  Kelly x

Punch Art Week of Power – Back to “OWL” the Basics

For this punch art post, I’m back to the very start of the punch art journey – the most basic of all punch art creations – the humble owl!  The Stampin’ Up! Owl Builder Punch is great when you’re just starting out with punch art and an absolute staple when you love punch art.  I rarely make owls these days, but I very often use the punch because of it’s incredibly versatile shapes.  The Owl Punch can make reindeers, penguins, babushkas, monsters, flowers … and so many more.

My owls are helping me to say thank you to someone who has gone above & beyond for my family.  This “Tag a Bag Giftbox” is filled with homemade Bliss Balls – a lovely way to say thank you, I think!  I stole a leftover one & they are yummy!  Kelly x
