Paper and all things papercraft have been a major feature in my life for the past 5 years.  Before that I did an array of crafty things (sewing, knitting, cross-stitch) but nothing made me buzz like paper.  I am grateful on a daily basis to have found a hobby that’s so engaging, gives me such pleasure and has allowed me to be involved with lovely like-minded people.

As well as being a paper & stamp addict, I also have a ‘real’ job as a Speech Pathologist.  I work with young children helping them develop their communication skills.  This is also engaging, gives me pleasure and is a lovely community.  Funnily enough, quite a few of the people I went to uni with have ended up taking crafty pathways also.  One of those is Joni who owns Imahlia Designs – an accessory business based in Karratha, WA.  Her business has been an amazing success and to celebrate her long time love of handmade gorgeousness and the first birthday of her own handmade adventure, she organised an online birthday party!

The theme for the birthday bash was “summertime candy” and she provided some great inspiration pictures to get us all started.  I’ve lost track of how many talented handmaidens contributed to the showcase – there’s so many amazing contributions including dolls, clothes, accessories, party items & room decor.  It started last night with a bang! and continues through until tomorrow afternoon.  You can see the full range of items available here.

My contribution was a Sweet Stack Birthday Party set:

The main item in the set is the hundreds & thousands shaker invite using Build a Birthday stamp set, Endless Birthday Wishes stamp set & Lots of Labels framelits.  Thanks to Kylie Bertucci for the 100s & 1000s inspiration!

imageThere’s also a Sweet Stack birthday party favour box using the Cutie Pie thinlits, Sweet Stack stamp set & Work of Art stamp set:

And a marbled thank you card made using the baby wipe technique and Watercolor Thank You stamp set.

I also decided to ‘sweeten the deal’ and include a set of gold sparkly star cake toppers made using the new Medium Star punch:

It was such a fun set to make.  Hopefully it sells in the showcase, but I’ll be secretly happy to keep them to use myself if they don’t!  The hundreds & thousands shaker invites are too cute – hours of shake-shake-shake fun!

Happy 1st Birthday to Imahlia Designs.  Joni’s put together the most incredible showcase and is a delight to work with.  Wishing her & her business every success.  If you see something in the showcase that you’d like to buy, use the codeword ‘sweets’ when you comment sold.  Kelly x

Nothing “Subtle” About This Card Class!

If you’re interested in card making and local to Bunbury, have you considered attenting a card class?

You can find the class schedule here.

This is what the ladies who attended last night made:

image

Subtles aren’t my usual go to colour collection, but I really love this soft & pretty combination.

We started with a bang – a peek-a-boo butterfly shaker card inspired by a card I found during my class research

{you can see the original by Melissa Bove here}

Most of the ladies had never made a shaker card and they all commented how easy it was.  You can find the basic instructions for a shaker card here.

The next project was a tutorial in using the Gift Bag Punch Board.  Once you know how, you’ll never look back, but there is a knack to the steps!

We jazzed it up with the Banner Triple Punch & gorgeous Pool Party DSP (Subtles Paper Stack).

And the final project for the night was a birthday cake card using the Build A Birthday stamp set.

I was so proud of the wonderful creations the ladies made tonight.  It was a delightful way to spend the evening.

If you’d like to attend a card class, I’d love to have you.  It’s a little cosy, a little messy and a lot fun!  Kelly x

I Have An Enemy ….

I have an enemy… one that I am sure many of you are familiar with … {TIME}.

My brain is scheming & dreaming for a good portion of the time I’m awake.  I’m thinking up activities I’d like to do with the kids, of things I’d like to make at the craft table, of phone calls I’d like to have with friends, time spent with loved ones … If I did half the things I imagined, I’d have very happy kids, friends and family!  But alas, with a very busy life and oh-so-much to fit in, time is my enemy.

I struggle to fit in the basics of life and then have to cram the extras on top.  But it’s so important to shift things around and make the extras happen because they are the icing.  And we all know the icing is the best part!

This birthday set for a friend has been rolling around my creative imagination for the past 2 weeks, but its taken me this long to make it a reality.  I’m truly in love with the Watercolor Wings bundle.  The different layers of the butterfly are magical and if you haven’t already noticed, the previous Butterflies Thinlits set coordinates with the new stamp set & framelits.  It’s all so wonderful!

The source of my layout & colour inspiration this week was JAI 266 for their colour combo:

And Freshly Made Sketches 190 for the layout:

Not a colour combo I’d normally use.  And I can’t say ovals are a big feature in my cardmaking either.  So, as always, challenges provide a great platform for the creative soul.

You’ll notice a few retired products in the mix until I’m restocked with new catalogue products.  The wait for “big brown boxes” to arrive is excruciating!

I’m enjoying having my Gift Bag Punch Board to play with.  I think I’m going to have to apologise to my curvy keepsake die soon as it’s gathering dust while I fall in love with my new punch board.

Too many favourite products!!!  Blessing or curse?  If I had more {TIME} I’d like to find out!  Kelly x

My SU! Secret: What I Did Today…

image

As you know, I’ve been keeping a secret …

It all starts here …

A couple of months ago, Stampin’ Up! home office in the US contacted me to ask if I would be a presenter in a demonstration booth at convention. I was skeptical when I first got the email – what would home office know about ME, a little known demo on the west coast? Well, apparently they do know about me and my love of punch art. And they wanted me to share the passion with my fellow demos at this years convention.

So, the last couple of months have been filled with new products, sneak peaks and late night brainstorms to come up with an hour of demonstrating and a board filled with samples.

What an amazing experience! Without this opportunity, convention would never have been possible for me.

Here’s some photos:

Over the next little while, I’ll share my samples with you. But I’ll start today with the two cards I demo’ed.

The first card focused on the “Tree Builder” punch and “Sprinkles of Life stamp set” which will appear in the new catalogue (starts 2nd June). I used the tree shape to create a template for sponging clouds & grass and then added a stamped & punched tree on top plus a beautiful sentiment.  The DSP is from a new paper stack called “Cherry on Top” and the embossing folder is “Happy Heart” which is carrying over from the Occasions catalogue.

The second demo I did used the “Triple Banner” punch and “Build a Birthday stamp set” which are also coming up in then new catalogue.  It features a layered banner plus some current (annual catalogue & Occasions catalogue) offerings.

Tonight, as you can imagine, I’m exhausted by what has turned out to be an amazing part of my papercraft journey. I’m feeling very blessed. Kelly x
