It’s a Magical Time of Year! JAI275

Christmas is such a magical time of year and apart from birthdays, it’s probably the biggest card giving occasion on the calendar.

The 2015 Holiday Catalogue launches in a couple of weeks and I was lucky enough for Mr Australia Post to deliver me a box of goodies last week.  It’s been a chaotic week here at papercraft HQ, so it took me until yesterday to open the box and play with my new products.

My first Christmas play for 2015 involved the Softly Falling 6’x6″ embossing folder and the super cute Sleigh Ride / Jingle All the Way bundle.

I started with the Just Add Ink sketch:

And used my favourite new colour combination – Mint Macaron, Tip Top Taupe & Gold to create a classy Christmas creation.

What do you think?  I like this for a Christmas colour theme!

When I skimmed through the catalogue and added the Sleigh Ride edgelits to my pre-order I had assumed it was Santa and one of his reindeers.  I had to have a second look when I started using it yesterday and realised that the reindeer was actually a horse.  This seemed a little strange to me, but after consulting some fellow demos, it seems the horse & sleigh is referencing Jingle Bells (oh what fun it is to ride on a one-horse open sleigh!).  It seems much more sensible now!!!  Thanks Elle ( for clearing that up.

There are so many magical new products to choose from that I am already making my list for the rest of the products I want when the catalogue goes live on 1st September.  I have catalogues to give you too, so make sure I hand one over next time I see you.  You’ll want to place your order nice & early in September so you have lots of time to make cards for your favourite people (and give the practice ones to your less favourite!).  Kelly x

Products to look forward to…

Available to order 1st September 2015

ESAD Blog Hop – Sneak Peek 2015 Annual Catalogue: Layered Letters Alphabet Stamp Set

Thanks for joining me on another ESAD Blog Hop.  There are only 2 more sleeps until the new catalogue goes live!!!  If you haven’t seen it yet, pop back here tomorrow for the link.  You’ll be in heaven – 189 pages of pure papercraft bliss!

Until then, be dazzled by the work of 13 talented ESAD ladies as they treat you to projects using products that were available to demonstrators on the sneak peek list {and will be available to you very shortly, so start making that wishlist!}.

If you are doing the round trip, you’ve come from fellow WA demo Andrea Buckland, who makes the most stunning cards!

Make sure to keep hopping until you get back here so you’ve seen everyone.

One of the ‘wow’ moments of the Gold Coast convention for me was seeing the Layered Letters Alphabet stamp set used during one of the on stage presentations.

I must admit, if I’d just seen this in a catalogue, I wouldn’t have given it a second thought.  But, as with lots of SU! products, once you’ve seen them in real life, they are hard to resist.

You might have noticed that I love fonts and lettering.  I’m frequently downloading new ones to use on cards & custom made stationary.  So, it was easy to fall in love with this contemporary typography!

In addition to the 26 alphabet letters, you also get 6 special characters and 2 shapes which gives you endless design options!

Here’s what I came up with:

I had so much fun making these.  I love the bold simplicity of the font!  It lends itself to so many occasions and project types.

And … because the set is photopolymer – you can see exactly where you are placing the letters.  All of these cards were stamped by sight – not a stamp-a-ma-jig in sight!

Next stop for some more tempting teasers is Nicole Wilson – another WA demo who is not only a fabulous crafter but a wonderful person too.   It’s fabulous to be part of the SU! family.  Kelly x

Banner Triple Punch {Convention Catch-up}

One of the punches I received in my pre-convention BBB (big brown box for those who don’t speak fluent SU!), was the Banner Triple Punch.  I was so excited when I first heard about it and even more excited when it arrived.

Here’s the main things I love about it:

  • It cuts cardstock/DSP into a banner any size from “nothing” to 2″.  As long as it fits into the largest guide, it will cut the end into a perfect banner.
  • It has three guides to help you align your cardstock and get a perfectly aligned middle point – 1″, 1.5″ & 2″.
  • You can also cut a purposely not-so-perfect banner by altering what angle or position you put your cardstock in at.
  • It’s all one mechanism – no switching between modes/levels to get different sizes.
  • It can also cut chevron pieces if you keep pushing & punching.
  • The banner shape is great – not too pointy, not too flat!

That’s pretty much everything you need to know about the banner triple punch {it’s awesome}!

The other helpful hint I’ll share with you is the allowances you need to make to your cardstock strip to make sure you always end up with the finished size you want.  You can see it in picture format below, but I’ll explain in words too.

The first thing to note is that different cardstock widths end up with different amounts cut off the end.

  • 2″ strip cuts off 3/16″
  • 1.5″ strip cuts off 3/8″
  • 1″ strip cuts off 1/2″

Despite this, the measurement from the inner point to the end of your length is always the same – 13/16″.

So, the allowance you need to make depends on whether you need a minimum distance between each end of your cardstock/banner points or whether you want your finished banner to be a certain size.  Don’t forget, if you have a double ended banner, you will need to add the extra length to each end (ie, double the allowance).

  • For minimum distance – add 13/16″ from where the inner point starts to the end of your length irregardless of the width of your cardstock.  For example, if you want a 1″ double ended banner than ends up being 3″ between each point, you need to add 3″ + 13/16″ + 13/16″ = 4-5/8″ [you’ll end up with a banner that is 3-5/8″ long with 3″ between the points].
  • For overall length – add the lengths that relate to your width (as above).  For example, if you want a 1″ double ended banner that ends up being 3″ long, you need to add 3″ + 1/2″ 1/2″ = 4″ [you’ll end up with a banner that is 3″ long with 2-3/8″ between the points].

Until you get used to adding allowances, I’d recommend testing your calculations by punching a piece of scrap first.  I’ve ended up with some crazy short 2″ banners by forgetting to allow for between point width!!!

Triple Banner Punch-001

This card from my convention board features each of the main Banner Triple Punch sizes (2″, 1.5″, 1″) and is an example of what a quick, easy & effective card you can make with banners.

Aren’t banners wonderful?  And even better when they come in whatever size you need at the click of a punch.  You’ll definitely want to add the Banner Triple Punch to your new catalogue order.  Only a few more sleeps!!!  Kelly x

Finding Inspiration – the ‘new’ Olaf

They say you find inspiration in the strangest places.  I do lots of card design in my head.  Having two little people and a crazy, busy life, lots of my thinking time occurs doing mundane tasks – shower, driving, folding washing….  This one came to me doing the dishes, when I saw the Frozen Kleenex box of tissues the girls had nagged me to buy:

Washing away… and then it struck me – wouldn’t this make a cute card, with the ‘hope your day stacks up to be one good thing on top of another’ sentiment from Sprinkles of Life stamp set (currently available to demos on pre-order, available to stampers everywhere on 2nd June).  So, this is what it looks like in papercraft form:

I used Shimmery White paper as the base, with Pacific Point ink brayered over the top (my brayering technique needs a bit of work!).  The trees are from the ever faithful “Lovely as a Tree” stamp set and then a punch art Olaf using the Gift Bow Bigz die and almost all my builder punches {have I mentioned how awesome these are for punch art???} – owl, bird, tree, cupcake.

Where does inspiration most often hit you?  Please tell me I’m not the only one dreaming up cards while doing housework!?!  Kelly x

Pre-order … Excellent… Plus baby bundle punch art!

Today me and hundreds of other demos will be placing their new catalogue pre-order.  Woo hoo!!!  It’s one of the many benefits of being part of the SU! family.

My pre-order list was made a little lighter this year by the wonderful opportunity I had to do a booth demonstration at the South Pacific Stampin’ Up! convention.  In order to make samples for our board, we were spoiled with a box of yet to be released products.  I am delighted to be able to tempt you with cute samples over the next month.

Today’s convention share is actually the last one I made, but by far one of my most favourite, and from the snippets of conversation I caught at convention, it was a winner there too.

With the exception of the baby’s head (made using the 3/4″ circle), the baby bundle punch art is completely made using the tree builder punch.  Put it on your wishlist, the tree builder punch will be available to order on 2nd June {Can’t wait? Join my team & get in on the pre-order}.

How to make your own baby bundle using the tree builder punch:

  • Branch – tree trunk
  • Handle – tree trunk
  • Bow – scallop circle & 2x leaf/teardrop shape
  • Cloth – tree top
  • feet – 2x leaf/teardrop shape

The DSP is also an upcoming product (Cherry on Top Paper stack) and the middle mat uses one of the new in-colours – “Tip Top Taupe”.

Is your wishlist growing?  Contact me to book a workshop so you can get some of your favourite products for free!  Or consider a virtual workshop for you & your friends.

As with all the builder punches, the tree builder punch is so versatile!  My name is Kelly and I’m addicted to Stampin’ Up! punches…. Kelly x
