Cool & Cute Shaker Cards

Hello Saturday!  I’m in total awe of the weekends now that our weeks are so busy!

It’s a time to sleep in, catch up with friends and, when the weather is good, find some sun!

This weekend we have a 4th birthday party to attend, so I’ve been playing around with some girly shaker cards.

The first version is yesterday’s class card using the Cool Treats bundle.

How cute are the Sprinkles Embellishments???

The second version was inspired by the awesome unicorn card that Jenni from paulinespapier made.

I just loved the cute unicorn & couldn’t wait to add one to a card of mine!

The Sprinkles not only make for good shaker material – but also as a unicorn crown!

This is one of my favourite little sayings!

I hope you have a fabulous weekend with perfect weather & filled with the perfect mix of weekend magic!

Happy “Demonstrator Support Appreciation Week”!

Good morning!  I know lots of my readers and followers are fellow demonstrators – did you know that this week has been nominated as “Demonstrator Support Appreciation Week”?

Demonstrator Support are the staff at the Stampin’ Up! offices around the world that help us to be a seamless part of the company.  They are the Angels on the other end of the phone or email that help us when we have questions or when things go wrong.  Not everyone can claim to have the best boss in the world, but when you call or email DS (as they are affectionately known), there’s nothing but kindness at the other end.  Their patience is unlimited, they are super knowledgeable and they always know how to help!  So, a big shout out to Clare, Ana, Mel, Natalie and Jess for being awesome!

To me, feeling supported as a demonstrator is also due to the hard work of the behind the scenes staff.  So, thanks to Aaron (Business Development Manager), Jeanette Woods (Events Coordinator) and Donna Williams (Marketing & Training Coordinator) in the Australian office and Emma Parkin-Wilson (NZ Manager) and Lesley Winstanley (Emma’s lovely assistant) in the office across the waters.

To show our appreciation, quite a number of demos have organised thank yous to keep the South Pacific Stampin’ Up! staff smiling all week.  There’s been chocolates, balloons and morning teas so far.  I wonder what else the week will hold???  You can see all the updates on the Stampin’ Up! South Pacific Facebook page.

I heard yesterday that my care package arrived safely, so I can now share it with you here.

For the team in Sydney, I made personalised post-it note pads.  Post-it notes are a must for me at work, so I thought they might come in handy for the DS staff too.

Personalised Decorated Post-It Notes. Large Letters framelits, One Big Meaning stamp set and Blooms & Bliss DSP.

After seeing all the amazing treats that have been delivered, my calorie-free option may be a good balance!

We all know that a gift isn’t complete without a card…

Impossible Puzzle Shaker Card - Thanks. Large Letters framelits, Letters for You stamp set and Blooms & Bliss DSP. Kelly Kent -

What starts off looking like a simple card is actually (what I’m calling) an impossible puzzle shaker card.

The letters all line up with the background to spell out thanks.  But I’m wondering if anyone in the office will be able to get them all back into place…???

The negatives from the shaker card made a beautiful & elegant card which I sent off to the Stampin’ Up! head office in the States.

Stamp Review Crew – Jar of Love

Stamp Review Crew - Jar of Love

Are you ready for a blockbuster week of inspiration???

It starts today with another Stamp Review Crew starring the Jar of Love stamp set (and it’s best friend the Everyday Jars framelits!).

This bundle is a favourite of mine and I’ve already had a lot of fun with it.

Mason jars have been ‘on trend’ for a number of years now and they lend themselves beautifully to cards & projects.  As you’ll see today, there are oh-so-many things you can put in jars!

The stamp set is ready to go with flowers, fish, fireflies and more!

But, for something different, I thought I’d show you some ideas that combine the jars with other sets from the Annual Catalogue.

So, this is Jar of Love & Friends!

Featuring Feather Together, Seaside Shore and Live, Love Grow stamp sets.

Stamp Review Crew - Jar of Love & Friends. Kelly Kent -

This card turns the smallest jar into a little ink well and uses the feather from Feather Together as a quill pen to create some gentlemanly birthday wishes.

Stamp Review Crew - Jar of Love + Feather Together. Kelly Kent -

This card uses the largest jar to keep a shaker jar full of shells – with some glitter to jazz it up!

And the final card turns the medium size jar into a vintage mason jar in solid colours – Bermuda Bay, Whisper White & Smoky Slate – with beautiful Live, Love, Grow foliage poking out the top!

Each card was such fun to make and hopefully I’ve been able to add some applications for the stamp set to your reportoire.

Next stop on this international blog hop – and it’s a big one today {popular set!!!} – is another Aussie – Rochelle Blok.  Rochelle’s style is amazing, so I know you’ll love what she makes with Jar of Love.

As it happens, I’m in the middle of an Australian stretch, so the blog before me (if you want to go backwards) is Nikki Spencer – also very clever and inspiring!!!

If you get lost at any point of the hop, just click on the banner at the top of this blog post and it will take you to the main list (*** this might not be live until later on Monday).

Thanks for joining me today!  Check back in frequently this week – I’m promising lots and hoping to deliver!!!

Marquee Messages Shaker Card – Roller Fun Party

Today the Little Misses went to a party at the local rollerskating rink!  It’s quite cute to see them tottering about on rollerskates.

I thought Marquee Messages with it’s old fashioned neon sign style was the perfect choice for a roller skating card.

Add a fabulous Festive Birthday DSP, a few “Bright” sequins and some gold glitz to make it fun for a 6 year old and we’re in theme!

Happy Birthday Nanna Papercraft!

This week is a big one for birthday celebrations – it’s time to wish Nanna Papercraft happy birthday.

Mum loved the pastel butterfly card I made last week, so I decided to make another version for her birthday card.

As well as sharing a love of paper, Mum is a great sewer (unfortunately we don’t share this talent).  So, I got out my sewing machine and used it to create the heart filled shaker background.

Heart Birthday Shaker Card with sewn edges & Garden in Bloom butterflies. Kelly Kent -

Stampin’ Up! have three punches that create a variety of great heart shapes – which make fabulous shaker fill {confetti hearts, hearts border & itty bitty accents}.

Sewing the edges to create a shaker pocket makes this style of card super simple.  Plus, the sewing adds some great texture.  Your regular sewing machine will do the job (no need to buy anything in particular to sew on cards) but you’ll want to keep a special needle just for paper as they can go blunt.

Happy Birthday Nanna Papercraft!!!  Looking forward to spending the day with you and celebrating lots more with you.  With lots of love from Kelly & the rest of the Papercraft family xxx

Summertime Candy Birthday Bash Showcase!

Paper and all things papercraft have been a major feature in my life for the past 5 years.  Before that I did an array of crafty things (sewing, knitting, cross-stitch) but nothing made me buzz like paper.  I am grateful on a daily basis to have found a hobby that’s so engaging, gives me such pleasure and has allowed me to be involved with lovely like-minded people.

As well as being a paper & stamp addict, I also have a ‘real’ job as a Speech Pathologist.  I work with young children helping them develop their communication skills.  This is also engaging, gives me pleasure and is a lovely community.  Funnily enough, quite a few of the people I went to uni with have ended up taking crafty pathways also.  One of those is Joni who owns Imahlia Designs – an accessory business based in Karratha, WA.  Her business has been an amazing success and to celebrate her long time love of handmade gorgeousness and the first birthday of her own handmade adventure, she organised an online birthday party!

The theme for the birthday bash was “summertime candy” and she provided some great inspiration pictures to get us all started.  I’ve lost track of how many talented handmaidens contributed to the showcase – there’s so many amazing contributions including dolls, clothes, accessories, party items & room decor.  It started last night with a bang! and continues through until tomorrow afternoon.  You can see the full range of items available here.

My contribution was a Sweet Stack Birthday Party set:

The main item in the set is the hundreds & thousands shaker invite using Build a Birthday stamp set, Endless Birthday Wishes stamp set & Lots of Labels framelits.  Thanks to Kylie Bertucci for the 100s & 1000s inspiration!

imageThere’s also a Sweet Stack birthday party favour box using the Cutie Pie thinlits, Sweet Stack stamp set & Work of Art stamp set:

And a marbled thank you card made using the baby wipe technique and Watercolor Thank You stamp set.

I also decided to ‘sweeten the deal’ and include a set of gold sparkly star cake toppers made using the new Medium Star punch:

It was such a fun set to make.  Hopefully it sells in the showcase, but I’ll be secretly happy to keep them to use myself if they don’t!  The hundreds & thousands shaker invites are too cute – hours of shake-shake-shake fun!

Happy 1st Birthday to Imahlia Designs.  Joni’s put together the most incredible showcase and is a delight to work with.  Wishing her & her business every success.  If you see something in the showcase that you’d like to buy, use the codeword ‘sweets’ when you comment sold.  Kelly x

Nothing “Subtle” About This Card Class!

If you’re interested in card making and local to Bunbury, have you considered attenting a card class?

You can find the class schedule here.

This is what the ladies who attended last night made:

Subtles aren’t my usual go to colour collection, but I really love this soft & pretty combination.

We started with a bang – a peek-a-boo butterfly shaker card inspired by a card I found during my class research

{you can see the original by Melissa Bove here}

Most of the ladies had never made a shaker card and they all commented how easy it was.  You can find the basic instructions for a shaker card here.

The shake!

The next project was a tutorial in using the Gift Bag Punch Board.  Once you know how, you’ll never look back, but there is a knack to the steps!

We jazzed it up with the Banner Triple Punch & gorgeous Pool Party DSP (Subtles Paper Stack).

And the final project for the night was a birthday cake card using the Build A Birthday stamp set.

I was so proud of the wonderful creations the ladies made tonight.  It was a delightful way to spend the evening.

If you’d like to attend a card class, I’d love to have you.  It’s a little cosy, a little messy and a lot fun!  Kelly x

Cards for Tweens – Part 1 (girls)

I was recently asked to design some cards for 9-10 year olds.  Wikipedia tells me that kids in this age group are commonly referred to as tweens… “too old for toys, too young for boys”.

So, what kind of cards are perfect for these in-between girls?

This is what I came up with!  Kelly x

The Olaf Series – Shaker Card & Curvy Keepsake Box

We’re about to enter another week of birthdays, starting today with the celebration of Kayla’s 4th birthday with a Frozen themed party.  It’s amazing that a movie that came out in 2013 is still going so strong in 2015!  But, if you’ve got a 2-10 year old girl, you’re probably quite aware of how popular Frozen is.  I hear there’s a sequel due out this year!

I wanted something new in the Frozen range, so I have gone with an Olaf shaker card (basic shaker card instructions here).

The makings of this Olaf card:

  • The Festive Flurry (snowflake) framelits are currently on the clearance rack at a bargain price.
  • The Frosted Sequins are now retired, but could be substiuted for whatever confetti material you have on hand.
  • Olaf is made from punch art – a smaller version of my original Olaf card.
  • The “Birthday” is courtesy of a “Frozen font” I downloaded and cut with my Silhouette.  I love how caring & sharing the internet can be, with so many great things available for free download.

And of course, there’s a matching Olaf curvy keepsake box!

Happy Birthday Kayla – the challenge of a ‘fresh’ Frozen card has been fun!  Kelly x
