Marquee Messages Shaker Card – Roller Fun Party

Today the Little Misses went to a party at the local rollerskating rink!  It’s quite cute to see them tottering about on rollerskates.

I thought Marquee Messages with it’s old fashioned neon sign style was the perfect choice for a roller skating card.

Hedgehog Friends Shaker Card

We’re off to a birthday party this afternoon, which means another cute card!

Today’s fun creation is a shaker card using the Painter’s Pallette easel, Love You Lots hedgehogs and a birthday banner from the Time of Year stamp set.

I’m still having a blast experimenting with products from the new catalogue!  Love You Lots and Time of Year are both hostess sets.  They are specially priced & can only be purchased with Stampin’ Rewards.  In Australia, all workshops & orders over $250 start earning Stampin’ Rewards!

Hedgehog Friends Shaker Card - Love you Lots, Time of Year & Painter's Pallette stamp sets plus Playful Palette DSP and Large Number die. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com.

Yep, another shaker!  If it shakes, spins or slides, then I’m all over it at the moment!!!

Hedgehog Friends Shaker Card - Love you Lots, Time of Year & Painter's Pallette stamp sets plus Playful Palette DSP and Large Number die. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com.

This card was easy to make using the basic shaker card combination:

  • front panel (easel)
  • window sheet
  • foam adhesive strips
  • back panel (hedgehogs)

Tip: Use your embossing buddy on your window sheet & back panel to reduce the static and help your shaker filling to move more freely!

The new Layering Square Framelits made making this card a breeze!

I filled with fine glitter (a first for me) and sequins.  You have to be careful when making shaker cards that you don’t overfill them.  Less is more!  Kelly x

Sunshine & Friendship

Today is the birthday of a very special lady.  She’s the type of person everyone should have in their life – bright, witty, amazing & kind to a fault.

She’s a fellow lover of paper, so I wanted to make something a little bit special for her.  Lucky I had new products to help!!!

I may have let out a small squeal when I saw that Stampin’ Up! was releasing a mason jar stamp set & matching framelit set.  Mason jars are super trendy and make great card subject.

No sentiment birthday shaker card - Everyday Jars Framelits, Sunshine Wishes Thinlits and Blooms & Bliss DSP. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com.

For this card, I used the Everyday Jars Framelits as a vase for my flowers.  To add that special touch I wanted, I used the framelit set to maximum potential and layered the shaker card piece in the middle of the jar while I was cutting it.

Add a piece of window sheet, some of the new Foam Adhesive Strips and some sequins (retired in this case but the colours worked perfectly!) and you’ve got a fabulous shaker jar.

The floral component of my card comes from the Sunshine Wishes Thinlits die set.  How lovely are the ‘swirly’ flowers?  And a ‘swirly’ butterfly… magic!

No sentiment birthday shaker card - Everyday Jars Framelits, Sunshine Wishes Thinlits and Blooms & Bliss DSP. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com.

The whole card comes together perfectly with the Blooms & Bliss DSP (perhaps my fave new DSP at this point… if a papercraft Mummy can have favourites!).

I’ve used the rip & flip technique to show off both sides of the DSP.  The colours, patterns and design are fabulous!!!

Happy Birthday to Liz – hope you have a great day, filled with all things wonderful including getting to play with your new birthday presents (glad you knew what you wanted).  You deserve it!  Kelly x

The Olaf Series – Shaker Card & Curvy Keepsake Box

We’re about to enter another week of birthdays, starting today with the celebration of Kayla’s 4th birthday with a Frozen themed party.  It’s amazing that a movie that came out in 2013 is still going so strong in 2015!  But, if you’ve got a 2-10 year old girl, you’re probably quite aware of how popular Frozen is.  I hear there’s a sequel due out this year!

I wanted something new in the Frozen range, so I have gone with an Olaf shaker card (basic shaker card instructions here).

The makings of this Olaf card:

  • The Festive Flurry (snowflake) framelits are currently on the clearance rack at a bargain price.
  • The Frosted Sequins are now retired, but could be substiuted for whatever confetti material you have on hand.
  • Olaf is made from punch art – a smaller version of my original Olaf card.
  • The “Birthday” is courtesy of a “Frozen font” I downloaded and cut with my Silhouette.  I love how caring & sharing the internet can be, with so many great things available for free download.

And of course, there’s a matching Olaf curvy keepsake box!

Happy Birthday Mr Papercraft!

It’s a B-I-G “Happy Birthday” to my husband, Mr Papercraft, today.  He doesn’t read my blog – not that I can blame him since he sees most of the cards that end up on here in real life (he’s a hit & miss critic, but oddly good at recognising the wonky bits!).

But, he did happen to see it one day when I’d left it open on the computer – and ironically on a post where I referred to him as Mr Papercraft (perhaps the one about the iron-on glitter vinyl mugs when I was in a very grateful mood!).  Well, since then, he’s been referring to himself as ‘Mr Papercraft’ and gets quite a chuckle out of it.

Now, it’s only fitting that the main man along for the ride with me on mypapercraftjourney gets more than one card on his big day (and by main man, I may mean key financier!).  He’s still heavily into his diving, so both cards fit into the nautical/marine theme.

The first card is from me.  It uses the Irresistibly Yours Sale-A-Bration DSP which I coloured with ink & sponge daubers to create an underwater oasis for the little diver man.  The diver is John from the Silhouette Design store, complete with a tank and flippers to make him into Diver John.  The “you’re the best!” sentiment is also a SAB goodie (Simply Wonderful Stamp Set).

The second card is a shaker card I made for the Little Miss Papercrafts to give to their Daddy.  [If you would like instructions on how to make a shaker card – follow this link to a previous post].  I loved the fun of this card – something they could play with as well as Daddy.

Happy Birthday Mr Papercraft – our ocean is so much fuller for having you in it!  With lots of love, Mrs Papercraft & the Little Misses x

Shaking the Stars – 1st birthday fun!

I’ve been wanting to have a go at a shaker card for ages now!  There’s lots of tutorials out there (have a search on youtube), but the basic premise is:

  • Cut out a shape using a punch or framelit
  • Add window sheet to create a see-through front
  • Add some depth using foam to the reverse side along the outline of your shape – Shaker Frames (great for circle shapes) or Stampin’ Dimensionals work well
  • Fill with confetti
  • Take the backing off the foam pieces
  • Attach to your card

I got a little fancy and made the shaker section a peep hole style card, so that you could see through to the inside of the card where I placed a sparkly “1” for the birthday girl.  The final version took me a few drafts (I kept doing things around the wrong way!) but I’m delighted with it.  Fun, fun, fun!  Try one – they make an impression.  Kelly x
