Happy Quarantini Birthday

A gorgeous friend of mine celebrated her birthday last week.  Together, with her family, she has been caught up in the chaos that is COVID.  After many false starts, lots of tears and a great amount of hope, they have finally made it home to Australia from their working holiday in Canada.  They are currently serving out their mandatory 2 week hotel quarantine period in Perth and I’m super excited that they’ll be back in Bunbury very very soon!!!

It’s not every year you have to spend your birthday in isolation, and although I had hoped not to again need the Sharing Sunshine pdf released by Stampin’ Up! earlier in the year, there seemed no other way to celebrate a quarantine birthday than with a Quarantini.

If you’re unable to breathe natural air and only see the sun through a window (that you can’t open), I thought some OTT rainbow glimmer was in order!

Happy Quarantini Birthday | kelly kentThe sparkle on this glimmer (available in the Annual Catalogue) is unreal!  The rainbow effect just adds to its awesomeness!

The background for this card was stamped using ink tones to match the rainbow glimmer.  I had already cut this stamp from the Happiest of Birthdays stamp set into three pieces (Happy + little-bit-late + Birthday) so I just took the Birthday stamp set and stamped it all over the background.  The colours are Granny Apple Green, Bermuda Bay, Coastal Cabana, Pacific Point, Gorgeous Grape & Rich Razzleberry.

The “happy” for the card is a die set in the 2020-2021 Annual Catalogue called Happy Dies.  It comes with a great range of accessory dies including a stitched edge, banner pennant and cloud strip.  I can’t wait to have a play with the rest of the dies in the set.  It’s always nice to have a set with great potential for creativity.

Welcome home to my wonderful friends – there’ll be lots of post quarantine celebrations after your (hopefully) once in a lifetime COVID birthday experience!

Peekaboo Window Card | Hippo Birthday 2 Ewe!

I’m sharing another birthday card today -it’s been a wonderful week of celebrations.

When the new catalogue first released, the Hippo Happiness bundle was one of my top picks.  It’s even better in person than the catalogue! It has super cute animal images and amazing dies to complement – and so much potential for fun projects.

The Peekaboo Window fold for this card was inspired by Chris Slogar.  You can see her post by clicking here.

It’s a regular card base with a peekaboo feature and a fold out centre – the perfect combination to be able to have the hippo and sheep take part in the ‘hippo birthday 2 ewe’ birthday greeting pun.

The layering on the dies in the Hippo & Friends set is so pretty!  The “stitched” element is my favourite finish for dies.  I’ve used the baby wipe technique for stamping the hippo – Gorgeous Grape & Magenta Madness ink on a baby wipe, but with a shimmery twist as I spritzed the baby wipe with a mix of Frost White Shimmer Paint & Isocol before inking up the stamp.  This gave the hippo a marbled effect with a shimmery finish.

The inside layer is stamped repetitively using the ‘hippo birthday’ sentiment from the Hippo Happiness stamp set in Mint Macaron ink.

The very inside of the card finished off the birthday pun with the sheep (‘ewe’).

The balloons are all stamped using the baby wipe technique & shimmer paint/Isocol mix.  The sheep is stamped in Smoky Slate & Basic Gray.  All the animals have two parts that make them up, which adds a great level of detail.

Colours for this card are:

Card Base: Magenta Madness
Card Front: Rainbow Glimmer
Card Labels: Magenta Madness, Bumblebee, Whisper White
Card Insert: Whisper White, Just Jade, Flowers for Every Season DSP

The whole card front in the new Rainbow Glimmer is a little indulgent, but the colours are so spectacular and the recipient is worth it!  It’s a great way to show off the wonderful colour change and perfect for the cuteness of the hippo!

Sparkly wishes for a great week!
