CASEing the Catty #126 Mother’s Day

Thanks for joining me for another week of CASEing the Catty.

This is one of my favourites cards to design each week because the catalogue is full of so much inspiration!

With May almost upon us, the theme this week is CASEing the Catty to create a Mother’s Day card – or conversely, taking a Mother’s Day sample from the catalogue and turning it into something else!

If you’re able to join us for the challenge this week, or to see what everyone is making, head over to our CASEing the Catty Sunday Challenge Facebook page where all the action is!

What inspired me this week?

I’m still having a last play with some of the retirement sets!

You know that old addage – you don’t know what you’re missing until it’s gone?  I feel like that about some of our stamp sets.

I haven’t used them in ‘forever’, but now that they are going to retire, I feel like I didn’t get enough use out of them!!!

Picture Perfect is one of those sets – it truly is stunning to use!!!

So, out it came for CTC#126.

I was inspired by the elements of this box.  I loved the black, white, pink & gold colour theme.

I used these elements to create a card.  It features a mix of ‘old’ & ‘new’.

On the retirement list is the Picture Perfect stamp set, Oh So Succulent stamp set (love that Mother’s Day sentiment!), Pop of Pink DSP (for the black & white effect), and Blushing Bride sequin trim.

I’ve also used Berry Burst and Lemon Lime Twist (new In Colors) for the flower & leaves.

The mix of old & new also includes some of the retiring sequin trim & a comparison to the new ‘tiny’ sequin.  You’re going to love the new version!

I carried the colour theme to the inside of the card too…

The ‘you are made of wonderful’ sentiment goes so well with the Mother’s Day theme!

Next up on the Mother’s Day CTC#126 hop is the talented Elizabeth Gross.

Thanks again for visiting, and don’t forget to join us on Facebook.

Stamp Review Crew – Picture Perfect

picture-perfect-banner

It’s been a while between Stamp Review Crew hops for me, so I’m excited to be back in the mix again today!!

Let me take you around the world for a “Picture Perfect” blog hop.  The hop aims to travel in a circular fashion, but if you get lost along the way, just click on the banner above to take you to the main SRC page.

That’s right, today it’s projects feature the Picture Perfect photopolymer stamp set.

This cute set features 3 multi-step designs including a rose (with leaves), hummingbird & starfish, plus great sentiments for all occasions.

I decided to create tags to use as features on my card fronts – with no-so-perfect watercolour stamping.

As you’ll see on the hop, the 2, 3 or 4 step stamping in these designs create beautiful 3D images that leap off the page.

I wanted to go a little whimsical, so I stamped each layer and then immediately washed over with an aquapainter to make it run.

Here’s the starfish (with Serene Scenery DSP)…

And my favourite – the hummingbird!

There’s so much you can do with this set!

I can’t wait to see what the crew came up with, starting with Holly Krautkremer.

Card Style of the Moment – Pop Out Swing Card

I’m a very ‘of the moment’ card maker.  I find a style I love, make a bundle of cards and then move on to my next favourite.  I’m not very timely with my trends (usually months behind everyone else) – but that just means there’s all the more samples out there to inspire me!

This style of card is called a Pop Out Swing Card and it’s amazing!

The card sits flat for posting, but when you open it, the middle panel sits within the card front and makes it 3D and fabulous!

You know what else is fabulous? The creativity of Debbie Henderson – I have a super craft crush at the moment.  I love her work and have found myself linking you back to a number of her projects over recent months.  The Pop Out Swing Card is another gem from Debbie’s Designs.  You can find Debbie’s samples & instructional video here.

These are my versions of the Pop Out Swing card – it’s definitely a wow design!  I’ve had such fun making these – and each one looks so different, even though the card basics are the same!

I’m definitely be making a few more of these and then I’ll be on the lookout for the next card of the moment.

Seen or made any ‘wow’ designs?  Leave me a comment and I’ll be sure to check them out!  Kelly x

Picture Perfect – here to stay!

The Stampin’ Up! buzz continues with lots of the chat being about what’s retiring & what’s staying.  I know you can’t see the new catalogue yet, but now that the blockout is over, I can start to share some of the info with you.

What’s staying???  If you head to the retirement list, you can read between the lines and work out what current sets will carry over the to new catalogue, including favourites from the Occasions catalogue.

Several of my favourite stamp sets are staying including my newly acquired Picture Perfect stamp set (update: Nanna Papercraft chose option (c), so I unable to resist owning Picture Perfect, I have added it to my collection too!).

It’s an exciting time to know that I’m going to be able to craft with this stamp set for a whole year (at least).

Today I wanted to share with you the card I made for a 1:1 card swap that is being run by Kylie Bertucci.  It’s easy to participate – and anyone in Australia can.  You send an original card design to Kylie with a self-address envelope and she sends a card designed by another participant back to you.

{If you’re in the US, check in with Brian King, because he runs a 1:1 swap for you lovely crafters in the states}.

This is my 1:1 swap card.  It was quite fiddly to stamp all the layers and work with the frame piece – but I was so happy with how it looked when I’d finished, it was well worth all the moving & positioning!!!

Picture Perfect Raised Frame Card for Kylie Bertucci's 1:1 swap. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com.

This photo actually picks up the Wink of Stella I used for the background quite nicely!  Rather than colouring my hummingbird with shimmer, I added it to the white space within the frame.

I love the sepia effect of stamping the roses in Sahara Sand, Crumb Cake & Tip Top Taupe and then bold colours for the hummingbird as the centrepiece.

The bird is stamped in Crumb Cake, Lost Lagoon & Island Indigo with a Rose Red chest (which I need more practice at lining up!).

I’m so excited to see what card I get in return and will share with you when it arrives.

The swap is open to all cards received in Kylie’s mailbox by Friday 29th April.  You don’t have to be a demonstrator to participate (I’d love a card from a non-demonstrator!), so get crafting over the weekend and share your love of Stampin’ Up!  Kelly x

Clean & Simple Nature – GDP#031

Shhhhhhhh!  Don’t tell Nanna Papercraft but I stole her Picture Perfect stamp set before she had a chance to use it!

But, in my defence, it’s a Nature challenge over at Global Design Project & this stamp set is so realistic, you’ll want to touch the images to check!

There’s 3 designs in the set plus some lovely sentiments.  The designs consist of either 2 or 3 stamps which create the texture & layers that give the images their realistic finish.

I’ve kept the overall designs clean & simple (sometimes called CAS) to celebrate the beauty of each stamp.

Starfish…

(So Saffron & Crumb Cake with a Hello Honey sentiment)

Clean & Simple: Nature GDP#031. Picture Perfect Starfish. Kelly Kent -mypapercraftjourney.com.

Roses…

(Blushing Bride, Melon Mambo & Rose Red with a Mossy Meadow sentiment)

Clean & Simple: Nature GDP#031. Picture Perfect Roses. Kelly Kent -mypapercraftjourney.com.

Hummingbird…

(Mint Macaron, Lost Lagoon & Soft Suede with a Lost Lagoon sentiment)

Clean & Simple: Nature GDP#031. Picture Perfect Hummingbird. Kelly Kent -mypapercraftjourney.com.

Do you have a favourite?  I think I love the roses because they are just so stunning.  Though the hummingbird is pretty special too!

I stamped all the images on Shimmery White paper to give them a little bit of extra pop.  And then fussy cut them out & popped them up on dimensionals.

So, now that I’ve fallen in love with the Picture Perfect stamp set (which I swore I didn’t need), I have 3 options….

A. Keep the stamp set and hope Nanna Papercraft forgets she ordered it

B. Permanently borrow Nanna’s stamp set

C. Buy my own gorgeous Picture Perfect stamp set

Decisions, decisions….  Kelly x
