Stamp Review Crew | Have a Hoot

Hello!  Thanks for joining me and my stamping friends around the world for a Stamp Review Crew hop.  Today we’re all creating using the Have A Hoot stamp set and Peek-A-Hoot Dies.

I’ve blogged before about how much I love this bundle – so I’m excited to join in with a hop that celebrates it’s awesomeness!!!

My card is a Christmas card in non-traditional colours.  I love the classic red & green combo but I really love Christmas in blue!

The base for this card is Misty Moonlight with a Seaside Spray mat.  The top layer – cut with the awesome 3 part tag die from the Peek-A-Hoot Dies is Whisper White.  The sentiments are white embossing on Night of Navy cardstock and the “OWL” letters are Flowers for Every Season DSP.  They are of course the Playful Alphabet Dies (another favourite!) with Foam Adhesive Sheets to make the letters pop!

I love being able to customise cards so they are meaningful.  For this card, I stamped the two owls together and also the owls on the branch and layered them to recreate my family dynamic.  Any guesses who the rouge little one jumping at the back might be???  They are easy to colour using Stampin’ Blends.

The sentiment for this card appeals to my ‘punny’ side.  Another variation is to leave out the little owls and use the two snuggly owls with “TWO” letters (‘from two of us’).

This stamp set has it all – images you can colour, super cute sentiments (in a fabulous font) and great accessory stamps.  The fact that it has amazing coordinating dies (and the tag frame) is a wonderful bonus!  The sentiments in the set also cater to Halloween – which is great for me because I rarely buy a dedicated Halloween set and then always end up wanting to make something at the last minute in late October!

I have one more card to share with you.  This one combines the sweet little owl with the Gift Wrapped bundle (also from the 2020 Aug-Dec Mini Catalogue).

Next up on the hop is my beautiful and creative friend Lou Kitzelman.

The main post for this hop is available at the Stamp Review Crew blog (it may not be live until later today, so check back if it’s not up yet).  You can also see previous hops where you’ll find inspiration for so many favourite stamp sets.

Thanks for hopping with us.  Have a marvellous week!

Like Gnome Other | “Speechie”

Although I’d love to hang out at the craft table all day (and night) I have two other jobs that keep me busy.  They are both equally as fun and interesting with very different pay rates and job descriptions.  My job as a Mumma to the three Mini Papercrafts pays in love and kisses.  My job as a Speech Pathologist pays in gratitude and the satisfaction of being able to help children communicate.

Last week was Speech Pathology Week – a week of celebrating Speech Pathologists and the workplaces in which they help others.  The theme for 2020 was Communicating with Confidence.  This is me with my fabulous work colleagues in our Speech Pathology Week shirts.

Out Loud Developmental Services | Speech Pathology Team

Approximately 5% of the population have communication difficulties.  Communicating with confidence is vital to enable everyone to participate fully in the social, educational, economic and sporting aspects of community life. We believe that families have the right to access the support and opportunities they need to help their children develop, learn, participate and thrive.  It’s a pleasure to be part of the complex journey a family takes when their child has a communication difficulty.

A couple of weeks ago my love of paper and being a Speech Pathologist collided when a friend needed a card to thank the Speech Pathologist her son had been seeing.  Speech Pathologists, affectionately known as “Speechies” love a good play on words, so gnome pun seemed like the perfect card for the occasion.

Speechie Like Gnome Other | kelly kent

This card started with the Gnome for the Holidays stamp set – specifically the ‘like gnome other’ phrase.  The base of the card uses the Peek-A-Hoot Dies to create some structure for the other parts of the card – and a window for the cute little gnome house to peek out.  The DSP for this card is from the In Good Taste DSP.

Speechie Like Gnome Other | kelly kent

The gnome has undergone a transition from Christmas gnome to garden themed gnome with some paper piecing on her hat and coordinating colouring with Stampin’ Blends.

The “Speechie” letters are cut from the Playful Alphabet Dies in Misty Moonlight cardstock with Foam Adhesive Sheets for extra impact and lots of Wink of Stella for the sparkle she deserves!

If you’re looking for a thank you stamp set for your collection to cover all types of thankful occasions, I really love the Massive Thanks stamp set from the Annual Catalogue.

Thank you to all the Speech Pathologists across the world – you are awesome!  If you know a “Speechie”, let them know what a fantastic job they are doing!

Peek-A-Hoot Dies | Unicorns

I shared a post a couple of days ago with my top 3 products from the Aug-Dec 2020 Mini Catalogue.  You can see the full post here including the cutest card made using all three products.

If you’re a take home message kinda person, my top 3 was:

  1. Banners Pick A Punch
  2. Peek-A-Hoot Dies
  3. All the new DSP! I used the Heartwarming Hugs in my card.

I promised that the Peek-A-Hoot Dies were super versatile and an absolute must-have for your collection.  The three part window component of the Peek-A-Hoot Dies create a fabulous structure for your project.

Here’s what they look like when combined with the unicorn stamp and sentiment from the Hippo Happiness stamp set (one of my top recommendations from the 2020-2021 Annual Catalogue!).

This is the revised edition! When I originally posted this card, I had completely forgotten to add horns to the unicorns! Whoops! Thankfully I have amazing friends looking out for me!!

I have turned the card so the dies are being used in landscape orientation, but otherwise the elements of the card are largely the same.

The DSP for this project is Playing with Patterns, which inspired the colours for the unicorns and cardstock in each window.  The cardstock for the windows is embossed using the Brick & Mortar 3D Embossing Folder.

The unicorns are Daffodil Delight & Bumblebee, Blushing Bride & Rococo Rose and Highland Heather & Gorgeous Grape.

I added a banner in the top corner using the new Banners Pick A Punch with some white twine.  The twine is retired but I’m finding it so hard to give up that I’m just gonna keep using it til I run out or Stampin’ Up! bring it back!!!

The stitching around those boxes adds such a sweet texture to the card.  I have so many ideas on how I want to use this set that I’m already planning another card and blog post to share soon!

I hope your weekend is wonderful and filled with lots of creativity!

Aug-Dec 2020 Mini Catalogue | My Top 3

Ready, set, go!  There’s a new catalogue ready for all your Christmas and festive season stamping needs!

As always, I’m totally in love with the new products.  The DSP is pretty, the stamps are great and the embellishments are calling my name!  I could easily buy the whole catalogue and happily stamp my way to December.  But, unfortunately the Papercraft HQ budget does not extend to the whole catalogue, so here’s the first 3 things I had to have…

  1. Banners Year stamp set and Banners Pick A Punch (buy as a bundle for 10% discount).  I love banners and this punch makes it so easy to turn the ends of any strip of cardstock (up to 1″ / 2.5cm) into a choice of two styles of banner.  The coordinating stamp set is filled with fab fonts and festive sayings that you’ll find yourself using on all your projects.

2. Have a Hoot stamp set & Peek-A-Hoot Dies (buy as a bundle for 10% discount).  I love owls and these owls are super cute, so pretty hard to resist!  The owls are a mix of Christmas and Halloween themed so you’ll get lots of use from this set for multiple occasions.  The connected peek-a-boo style dies are amazing for all types of cards and you’ll want to use these on other projects, not just Christmas!

3. Heartwarming Hugs DSP.  You know I always love the new DSP patterns and this catalogue is no exception.  There’s traditional red and green like the Heartwarming Hugs designs, but also blues in the Snowflake Splendor DSP and earthy tones in the Poinsettia Place DSP.  There’s so much variety & choice!  If you’ve kept supplies from last year’s Holiday Catalogue, then you may already have Brightly Gleaming, Toile Tidings and Feels Like Frost DSP – which are all returning to spend Christmas with us again!  And don’t forget about the autumn themed Gilded Autumn DSP and the Halloween themed Magic In This Night to complete your seasonal collection!

I am led to believe that buying craft supplies and using them are two separate hobbies, but luckily I enjoy both!  So here’s a card I made using my top 3 products from the mini catalogue.

Have a Hoot | kelly kent

I am totally in love with the peek-a-boo style of the connected die in the Peek-A-Hoot Dies.  I did get the coordinating stamp set because I love owls, but you could totally buy the dies just for that one die!!!  And the bonus is that they cut labels, which you can use for other projects as well.  Totally fabulous and a great investment this Christmas!

Have a Hoot | kelly kent

The other dies in the set cut out the owls in the stamp set, so not one little bit of fussy cutting is required!

Have a Hoot | kelly kent

I’m a sucker for a versatile Christmas stamp and can see myself using this Merry Christmas on so many cards!  There’s also some super cute owl punny sentiments too which I can’t wait to use.

If you live in Australia and don’t have a demonstrator who has sent you a copy of the Aug-Dec 2020 Mini Catalogue, let me know and I’ll pop one in the post for you.

If you *need* supplies to keep you busy, indulge in some retail therapy or get started on your Christmas cards, you can shop in my online store.

If you earned Bonus Days coupons in July, these can be used in August – via my online store or by contacting me with your order and codes.

Stay safe!
