Paper Adventures Team Retreat 2020

On an unseasonally wet weekend in March 2020, our Paper Adventures team headed to Perth for our annual Paper Adventures Team Retreat hosted by Siobhan Fitzsimmons of Hightrees House of Cards.  We all reflected that the last team day we had it rained too!!!  Rainy days do make for great crafty days!

I always look forward to getting together with the team.  And a whole day – yee har!  We were lucky that 9 of the team were able to make it on the selected day.  Siobhan put on a lovely venue for us as always and we had a great time.  We even had a whole table of Big Shots – what a sight!

The format of our retreat days has stayed the same since we started – it’s all about the time stamping with regular opportunities to eat, and lots of chat and plenty of laugher.  We each bring along a make & take project with all materials and kits for the team to recreate the design.  There are usually less kits than people, so you don’t get to make all of the projects but you do come away with a bag full of completed cards with pretty designs, often using stamps you don’t own.

This is the card I made.  I wanted a masculine card using a stamp set from the Annual Catalogue.

Stamp sets: For the Win, Lined Alphabet
DSP: Country Club
Colours: Balmy Blue, Blueberry Bushel, Night of Navy
Embossing Folder: Subtle
Dies: Stitched Shapes

The card needed to be simple enough for the team to put together in 20 mins, but interesting enough to be fun for an avid crafter.  My card had several added elements to take it from simple to simple + including an embossed layer, a little but of fussy cutting, some colouring and heat embossing.

No photo description available.

I also added the option to stamp the envelope for anyone who finished early.

If you live in Perth or South West WA and would like a supporting & welcoming stamping team to join, then Paper Adventures might be a good fit for you.  We have an active Facebook page, meet regularly and value the friendships as much as the stamping.  Click here for more information on joining Stampin’ Up! or click here to purchase the starter kit and join the fun!

Thanks again to Siobhan for hosting and to the team for making it an amazing day!

Paper Adventures Winter Retreat

Winter has hit with a vengence in south west WA – it’s wet, it’s cold and it’s windy!!!

There have been a few glimpses of sunshine before the regular winter programming returns.

Luckily, for us, stamping is an indoor sport – perfect for all weather.  Too hot – craft in the air-con, too cold – craft with the heater on!!!

Last year we started an annual Paper Adventures Retreat Day, hosted by one of our teamies who has a gorgeous residence in the Perth Hills.  2017 saw us travel up for a beautiful spring day.

2018’s planning involved a wet weather winter trek!!!  We arrived safely and had a wonderful day of crafting – and even managed to sneak some sunshine for a team photo.

Retreat days are all about the crafting and eating!!!

The eating was a shared morning tea. lunch & afternoon tea with everyone contributing something delicious for the day.  Our hostess kept us well hydrated with copious cups of tea and fabulous coffee.

The crafting was make & take style with each of us bringing a project in a box.  You make the sample, cut up the kits and put all the materials in a box.  The boxes are passed around and each crafter makes & takes home one of each design.  It needed to be easy enough to make with minimal instruction within a 30 minute time frame.

I wanted to share the new embossing mat with the team, so this was my card for them to make…

The butterfly is from the new Sprintime Impressions Thinlits but instead of cutting it, we layered it with the Embossing Mat to leave the outline on the cardstock.

Other supplies in this card are Nature’s Poem DSP, Stitched Label & Stitched Shapes Framelits and Hanging Garden stamp set.

Because each person created with a different box and created a different card in each time slot, I offered an alternative layout using the same pieces –

This is always a fun way to create a ‘different’ card but not having to completely design.  Design & colour choices are always the most complex part of creating cards.

Thanks to our Paper Adventures team for being wonderful – they really are the loveliest people I know!!!
