OnStage Local 2015 – my wonderful day!

imageI’m excited to share my day at the Perth OnStage Local event with you – finally!  {It’s been a busy week!}

It was an early start, with registration at 7.30am for a 8.30am kick-off.  I was greeted at the desk by the beautiful Carolyn Bennie who was our OnStage Local Global Events Council rep.  It was a pleasure to meet Carolyn who is every bit as lovely in real life as she is online (maybe even more so – if that’s possible!).

While the event days are about meeting old friends, making new ones and sharing our love of all things paper & stamps, it’s also a chance to get information about new products and catch up on all the latest Stampin’ Up! news.  The OnStage events were perfectly timed for a sneak peak at the upcoming Occasions and Sale-A-Bration catalogues.  The excitement grew as we waited to be the first to see!!!

Our first sneak peak happened as soon as we checked in.  We all got an awesome tote, fabulous water bottle (you can kinda see it in first photo, hiding behind the sign), funky notebook and Stampin’ Up! pens.  I also won a prize straight away – Tag A Bag accessory kit which I will put to good use.

Our bag also contained a {NEW} stamp set from the Occasions catalogue.  Balloon Builders has 15 balloon shapes and 4 sentiments that are perfect for a variety of stamping creations.

The balloons have a stunning watercolour effect…  I’m in love!  I’m not going to spoil all the fun for you, but imagine how amazing a matching punch would be for this set!

During the day there were lots of presentations by local demonstrators and Stampin’ Up! staff where they shared product previews with us.  We got to touch & play with the new products and made 4 amazing ‘make & takes’.

This is what mine ended up looking like…

Make & Take 1 – Going Places Suite: Going Places DSP Stack, Going Global stamp set & World Traveler Embossing Folder.

It’s fair to say we were thoroughly spoilt across the day.  Not only did we get our goodie bags on arrival and 4 great projects to take away, we also got two more all attendee giveaways – Go Wild DSP stack from the current catalogue (one of my favourites!) and an awesome sentiment stamp set called “Enjoy the Little Things”.

And, to make it even more exciting, we all won Prize Patrol.  My group (Pumpkin Pie) got a stamp set that features in the Occasions catalogue called “A Nice Cuppa”.  There are also matching framelits, which I can’t wait to get my hands on!  Being the daughter of tea-drinking English parents, I love myself a cosy, warm cup of tea.

There was one more surprise for me during the day – I got to do a dash across the stage to celebrate great sales over the last year.  Thank you to all my lovely customers who contributed towards that amazing total!.  As a celebration of my success, Stampin’ Up! are giving me a free stamp set – it’s going to be a hard choice since I love so much of the new catalogue.

Luckily for me I don’t have to wait long to add more products to my collection- demonstrators get to pre-order from the new catalogue from the 3rd December.  Does this sound like a perk you’d like?  I’d love for you to join me on the papercraft journey.  Being a demonstrator really is fabulous!!!  You can read more about it here, or email me if you have any questions.

With hearts full, wishlists long and all of us scheming up ways to find extra stamping money (I’m going to stop feeding my kids).  Good thing Mr Papercraft is such a supportive husband!  Though he could just be feeling guilty about buying a boat.  Kelly x

My OnStage 2015 Swaps – Mini Tic Tac Character Boxes

OnStage Local Swap 2015 - Mini Tic Tac Character Boxes: Christmas Set. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com.

On Saturday, I spent the day with some wonderful ladies at the very first round of OnStage local events.  Perth was lucky enough to be one of the first host cities and was the only one to sell out completely.  We love our Stampin’ Up! here in WA!!!  I’ll share more of the OnStage fun with you later in the week, but tonight I wanted to show you what I made as my event ‘swap’.

It’s Stampin’ Up! tradition to make a project in mass quantities that you take to the event and swap with other attendees.  I didn’t take any to the Gold Coast because I was so stretched for time organising samples for my demo board.  So this time around, I wasn’t missing out on all the fun!

The back story to these little beauties starts at the Duty Free section of Bali airport in September.  If you’ve been to Denpasar Ngurah Rai International Airport since they renovated, you’ll remember the long wind through lots of duty free temptations as you try to find your way to the boarding gate.  In addition to the usual perfume and beverage offerings, they have a huge candy/chocolate section that’s fun to look at.

So, whilst being dazzled by all the bright lights & shiny things, I came across mini Tic Tacs …  MINI TIC TACS!!! Crafters love anything that comes in mini format because they are cute to package.  But mini Tic Tacs – get out!!!  The catch was, they were crazy expensive and as hard as I tried, I couldn’t get Mr Papercraft to see the merits of the minis in the same way I did.  So, we boarded with only some Pez candy toys (as per the request for a Unicorn from one of the little misses!).

But the story doesn’t end in Bali… Imagine my delight when I found mini Tic Tacs at my local Kmart.  So the craft dream was revived.  The next challenge was to actually find a way to package them.  They are quite tiny – which adds to the cute factor, but makes them a bit tricky to do anything with.

A bit of a brainstorm later, and meet the Mini Tic Tac Character Boxes using the Note Tag Punch…

It was so much fun to give them out at OnStage local and I got some fabulous swaps in return.  I’ll share some of my favourites this week.  There’s a lot of stamping talent in WA!!!

If you love punch art as much as I do, and you don’t have the full set of Stampin’ Up! builder punches, I’d recommend you add them to your collection.  As you can see by the breakdown below, each character is made using the pieces from our wonderful builder punches.  You can do so much with only a few key punches.  I couldn’t live without my Owl, Cupcake & Tree Builder punches!!!  Kelly x

Mini Tic Tac Character Box Instructions:

{Find the full tutorial with pictures here)

  1. Punch out the Note Tag Punch twice
  2. Score 1/4″ from each of the 3 flat sides
  3. Fold along the score lines and snip the two squares on each tag made by the intersecting score lines
  4. Cut a piece of cardstock to 1″ x 1/2″.  Use this to attach the two tags together with the bottom flaps
  5. Secure the tags around the mini Tic Tac box with a small elastic band (I used a tiny hair elastic).  Tie a piece of Baker’s Twine and remove the elastic.

Decorate your character box…
