Stamp Review Crew | Magical Day

Hello!  Today is a magical Stamp Review Crew hop featuring my international Stampin’ friends and the Magical Day stamp set.

This product suite, including the coordinating Magical Mates stamp set, Myths & Magics DSP, Myths & Magic DSP and Myths & Magic Washi Tape, are all retiring soon (31st May – or when stocks run out!).

It was so lovely to know we have this blog hop for inspiration to keep the magic alive!!!

Make sure you buy all your retiring favourites {like Magical Day} before they sell out.  Shop the retirement list in my online store.

The cards I made for today’s blog hop are based on the theory of design I talk about in my Stamp In Confidence module two video.  Stamp In Confidence is a tutorial program I have developed with my gorgeous friend Lou Kitzelman.  Visit the blog here for all the info.

As I’ve been putting together the content for this video, I’ve been spending a lot of time thinking about design.  How I design cards, what ‘rules’ I use and what are the important elements of design when making cards.

Module Two brings all this together in a video tutorial with written information to support it.  If you’ve been feeling like you need a bit of guidance so that you can independently design cards with confidence – you’ll love Stamp In Confidence.

Here’s the close up of each of the cards – they were so fun to make!

Colour INKspiration #28

Who loves colour challenges???

You do!  We are amazed and humbled that so many lovely crafters choose to join in with our challenges each fortnight (or 3 weeks on those long months!).  Join us on Facebook to share your creation.  Click here to visit.

Each challenge has a top 5 voted by the design crew and then a winner as voted by the group.  The winner is invited to hop as a guest designer with us for a future hop (if they want to).

This challenge – #28 – has a special prize for a first-time entrant. All you have to do is comment that it is your first time entering and you will go into the draw to win registration to our new Stamp In Confidence program.  The winner will receive free registration for ‘Module One – Stamping Basics’. If you haven’t visited our new blog, you can find all the details about our new online class modules at https://stampinconfidence.blogspot.com.au/.

The colours for this challenge are stunning with an awesome inspiration photo to get the creativity flowing – do I say this every week???

Three sweet colours – Bermuda Bay, Sweet Sugarplum & Lemon Lime Twist plus a solid neutral – Soft Suede.  You can add any other neutral or metallic to your project to complete your colour palette.  If you don’t have the exact Stampin’ Up! match, create with the closest you have.

My creation starts with a story…..

I have this amazing crafty friend.  She’ll play with any craft medium but sewing is where her passion & skill lies.  She makes the most amazing quilted artworks.  See some of her work on Instagram (click here).

We lives hours apart so don’t catch up as often as we’d like, but whenever she comes for a visit, she’s straight to my shelf of stamps checking out what’s new and suggesting all kind of crazy stamping combinations.  She sees the world in a totally different way to me – it’s wonderful!

She fell in love with the unicorn from the Magical Day stamp set and spent quite some time brainstorming a rainbow farting unicorn!

So, here you are Miss Caity…. this is your rainbow tooting unicorn…

Rainbow Unicorn | kelly kent

I used the baby wipe technique with the Star of Light swirl to create the ‘rainbow farts’.

Baby Wipe Technique | kelly kent

Making your own multi-coloured ink pad is a great way to get a variety of colour tones in your stamped image.

Rainbow Unicorn | kelly kent

And those unicorns – don’t they look happy with themselves!

Did you spy that they are facing different ways?  The unicorn at the top is stamped exactly from the stamp set.

The unicorn at the bottom is a mirror image created using the reflection technique.

Simply stamp your image onto Window Sheet (acetate) and then press onto your cardstock.  I used Basic Gray Archival Ink.

Reflection Technique - Unicorn | kelly kent

This will give you an outline, which I then followed using my Soft Suede Stampin’ Write Marker.  To get the same effect on your ‘right way’ unicorn, stamp off the unicorn several times, then stamp onto your carstock and trace using the marker.  Stamping at full strength will make the colour too dark to effectively trace over.

To cut out the reverse unicorn using the framelit, hold it against a window and line up on the ‘wrong side’.  Hold it in place with some washi tape while you run it through the Big Shot.  Or you could just fussy cut…… your call!

Using a Framelit with the Reflection Technique | kelly kent

PS….. I think our windows need a clean!

The unicorn comes up great – you can’t even tell it’s a reflection!

Use your Stampin’ Write Markers to colour the unicorn mane/tail.

I could have gone with any of the birthday (or other) sentiments in my stash, but I thought the ‘cue the confetti’ sentiment from the Picture Perfect Birthday stamp set was cute & cheeky for this card!

Colour INKspiration #27

Yesterday was Miss Papercraft’s birthday – and it’s all about mermaids this year for a pool party theme.

Thank goodness for a fabulous Colour INKspiration theme….

No automatic alt text available.

This colour combination of Powder Pink, Pool Party, Melon Mambo and Island Indigo made my (last-minute) card making job so much easier!!!

Colour INKspiration #27 Mermaid | kelly kent

There’s currently three mermaid stamp options.  I used the mermaid image from the Magical Day stamp set in the Occasions Catalogue and the sentiment from the Magical Mermaid stamp set in the Annual Catalogue.

After seeing some crafters using the wobble springs for panda cards, I bought some to try out.  The mermaid ‘swims’…

Paper Adventures Team Blog Hop | Animals

Paper Adventures - Blog Hop Header

Hello & welcome to our February team hop.

We have another full line up for you including our guest designer – Chloe Evans.  Each post links to another – either on a website or on Facebook – so keep clicking on next or the linking address until you’ve seen all the great projects.

Today’s theme is animals – so many options from bugs & bees to birds & pandas.

I’ve gone a little rogue and my creations are mythical animals from the Magical Day stamp set and Myths & Magic suite.

Myths & Magic | kelly kent

With little people in the house, magical & mythical was an absolute joy to see in the catalogue and I added this suite to my collection as soon as I could!

My first card features the most wonderful girly mythical animal – the unicorn!

Magical Day | kelly kent

It’s fun & blingy with sparkly clouds made from shimmery embossing paste, more sparkly clouds from the Myths & Macis Glimmer Paper, a pastel rainbow using the Rainbow Builder Framelits, a coordinating sentiment from the Magical Mermaid stamp set and of course, a shimmery unicorn to finish it all off!

I love how the stamps & accessories in my collection complement each other so well.  There’s there separate stamp/die elements in this card – but they all go together so seamlessly.

The second card is a quick & fun card that uses the clever DSP to create the background.

Myths & Magic | kelly kent

This DSP is a ‘specialty’ pack and one side of each design has glitter features.  So stunning!

So I just added a sentiment – again coordinating my existing stamps (Thoughtful Banners stamp set) with the ‘magical’ from the Magical Day stamp set.

I didn’t have to think too much about colours for this card – I just picked from the ones used in the DSP.  Smoky Slate for the card base, Tranquil Tide for the mat and Lemon Lime Twist and Bermuda Bay for the sentiment.Using the power of the DSP is an easy but stunning way to make cards!

Thanks for joining me to see my mythical animal creations.

Next stop is Mandy Depiazzi and her awesome animal creativity!

If you get lost at any point of the hop, there’s a list below of everyone who is joining in.  I love my wonderful Paper Adventure team!!!

To see the list of products I used for each card, see the gallery below.

And, just a reminder about the great joining special available until 31st March…

Wizard Magic

Earlier in the month one of our Paper Adventures team celebrated her birthday.  But I didn’t see her til last week, so had to hold off sharing her card & present until she had received it!

Coriana, the birthday girl, is a Harry Potter fanatic.  Joanne from our team made Coriana a fabulous Harry Potter inspired card – see it here.

I went down the Myths & Magic path and made Coriana a flip flop card (one of my favourite layouts to show pretty DSP).

This DSP is called Myths & Magic.  It’s a specialty design with silver foiling on one side of each page – just magic!

Magical Birthday | kelly kent

I used the DSP on the back layer, at the left side and fussy cut the mystical beings from one of the pages, sticking them at various points of my card.

The left and right sides of the card move.  Here’s a picture with the left side open…

Magical Birthday | kelly kent

And at full spread.  I like that you write your message on the inside layers of the card.  It’s like a card on a card!

Magical Birthday | kelly kent

Every birthday girl needs a gift – and every gift deserves pretty packaging!!

This is a sweet & simple lip balm holder.  See the tutorial from Pootles here.

Magical Birthday | kelly kent

Again, the fussy cut DSP adds a great finishing touch!

Happy birthday {MONTH} Coriana!

Have a Magical 2018!

Happy New Year!

The clock has just ticked over here in Bunbury, Western Australia, though I know if you are in other parts of the world, you’ve either been in 2018 for hours, or have hours to go til your celebrations.

Wishing everyone a magical 2018!  We have the start of the Occasions catalogue to look forward to on Wednesday and many more beautiful products throughout the year!

I was a little late getting some of my Christmas cards out, so I sent through some of these cards using the Myths & Magic Suite.

Have a Magical 2018 | kelly kent

Myths & Magic Suite – Available 3rd Jan 2018

I probably should have paid more attention – there is actually a banner framelit that cuts out the magical!!!  All that fussy cutting!  We’ll just pretend that’s the look I was going for!

Have a Magical 2018 | kelly kent

The eclipse style of this card gave me left over numbers, so I decided to make a second version.

Have a Magical 2018 | kelly kent

And with the cute mythical creatures of the stamp set, I couldn’t resist adding some decoration to the middle..

Have a Magical 2018 | kelly kent

A bit of the washi or glimmer paper would have looked amazing in there too!!!

So much still to discover from the new catalogue!

I can start taking orders now, ready for Wednesday, so if your wishlist is ready, email it through.  Or shop in the online store anytime from Wednesday morning.

Hello 2018, we’re going to have fun!
