Colour INKspiration #58

I have another fabulous colour combination for you today as part of Colour INKspiration #58.  It’s pretty and subtle and I cant’ wait to see what you share with us on the Colour INKspiration Challenges Facebook group.  Click here to visit the FB group.

Don’t these colours exude elegance and luxury?

We’re joined for this challenge by our guest designer – Vicki Boucher.  Vicki’s gorgeous card won challenge #56 and we’re delighted to have her create with us for this hop.  If you’re already on your way hopping around, then you will have travelled here from Vicki’s blog.  If you’re starting here, keep hopping until you visit Vicki.

With these sweet colours, I’ve inked up one of the new Stampin’ Up! bundles –  Above the Clouds.  It comes with a stamp set and coordinating Hot Air Balloon Punch.

Above the Clouds | kelly kent

I forget what this style of card is called – but it’s one of my favourites!  Stamp on the base layer of the card then add cardstock to the left & right edges to create a sunken patterned panel.  I’ve stamped the clouds in Blushing Bride and edged the Whisper White cardstock with gold foil.

Above the Clouds | kelly kent

There are some cute sentiments in the Above the Clouds stamp set, but I’m enjoying lots of mixing & matching of stamp sets at the moment to create a variety of birthday cards – as these are the cards I most need.  This fun birthday sentiment is from another new set in my collection – Beautiful Friendship.

I’ve used another set (not so new, but regularly used) on the inside – Itty Bitty Birthdays – together with Above the Clouds.  I don’t always decorate the inside of my cards (despite my new years resolution) but when I do, it always makes me smile to add an extra layer of happy!

Above the Clouds | kelly kent

The clouds are stamped in full colour (Blushing Bride) and then again without reinking to create a variety of cloud depths.  As well as full size hot air balloons, Above the Clouds has this cute trio of little hot air balloons too!  My tip for two step stamping with a solid image and an outline is to stamp the outline first.  It’ll be much easier to see through the solid stamps and line them up with your outline stamping.

This is the same for the big hot air balloons!  And that cute bunting I’ve used on the top of the card.

Above the Clouds | kelly kent

The gold touches on this card really lift it up (pun intended!).  Aren’t those balloons so pretty in pink!?!

Keep hopping and see all the lovely ways the design team have used these colours.  Next up is my sweet friend Rachel Palmieri.

Thanks for joining us!

Colour INKspiration #55

Hello!  We have a fabulous colour challenge for you this week at Colour INKspiration.  There’ s a blog hop to enjoy and then all the action for the challenge happens in our Facebook group. Click here to visit and share your creation with us.

You may have hopped here from the gorgeous Lisa Whitehead who won challenge #53 and joins us as a guest designer.

Here’s the colours for challenge #55…

Image may contain: bedroom and indoor

You can use 3 or more of these colours in your project.

I went all out and used all 6 plus white & black as we can include basics (white, black & vanilla) and metallics.

A large part of the inspiration for my card came from the challenge photo.  I used the clouds to create the background and the Grapefruit Grove cushion to inspire the styling of the hot air balloon.

Lift Me Up | kelly kent

It was so hard to photograph the background but it’s crazy shimmery!  I used Shimmery White cardstock for my base and then added a mix of Isocol (alcohol), reinker and shimmer paint.  My first attempt at a major fail – sprtizing using a mask doesn’t work!  All the colour seeped under the mask and I got blobs rather than clouds.

The second attempt was much better applying the colour with a sponge and I got these pretty clouds.  One mix was Coastal Cabana & Frost White Shimmer Paint and the second was Smoky Slate & Champagne Mist Shimmer Paint.

Lift Me Up | kelly kent

It’s hard to capture just how pretty it is!

I used the remaining challenge colours under the balloon – cut by the Up & Away Framelits.

Lift Me Up | kelly kent

The sentiment is from the Lift Me Up stamp set.  I white heat embossed on Rich Razzleberry and Grapefruit Grove cardstock and then roughly snupped with scissors.  I love chopping up sentiments like this!

Lift Me Up | kelly kent

I had so much fun with these colours!  It was the perfect challenge to prompt me to put different colours together than my normal combinations!

Next up on the blog hop is my gorgeous friend Lou Kitzelman in QLD.

Thanks for hopping with us!

Stamp Review Crew | Geared Up Garage

It’s the third Monday of the month and I’m excited to be hopping with the Stamp Review Crew.

Our theme for today is Geared Up Garage – part of the Classic Garage suite.

This stamp set is available in the Occasions catalogue and is perfect for all your rev-head card needs.

Since it’s release, I’ve seen a few steampunk themed cards made with this bundle and that’s the direction I wanted to take for my project.

Steampunk Geared Up Garage | kelly kent

If you’re not familiar with steampunk, it’s a genre of design inspired by symbolism of the industrial revolution of the 1800s and a romantic perspective of Victorian Era’s steam powered technology.

The cogs from the coordinating framelits to this stamp set are perfect for this theme!

The Smoky Slate mat for the card was stamped using the splotch image in full strength Smoky Slate ink and also stamped off to create some lighter images.  The nuts are stamped in Basic Gray.

Steampunk Geared Up Garage | kelly kent

Once all the stamping was some, I crushed and crinkled the cardstock to give it more vintage & distressed look (this was fun!).  I smoothed it out and curled the corner using a bone folder.

Steampunk Geared Up Garage | kelly kent

The die cut images for the card were all cut in foil – gold for the clouds, champagne for the cogs and copper for the hot air balloon (with copper embossed balloon image).

The mat behind the Smoky Slate is silver foil embossed with the Subtle folder to add more texture.  And then behind that is DSP from the Classic Garage DSP Stack.

Steampunk Geared Up Garage | kelly kent

The card was finished with the ‘You’re a Classic’ sentiment which was perfect for this vintage style card.  This is on silver foil with StazOn Black ink.

There were definitely times during making this card that I felt a little out of my depth – vintage is not my usual style.  But I love how it all came together.

It’s always fun to see stamp set both in the light they were designed in but to also be taken on a journey of seeing that stamp set through the eyes of others.

Next up on the Stamp Review Crew hop is Lauren Alarid, one of the crazy talented Stampin’ Up! Artisan Design Team members for 2019.

Thanks for hopping with us!

CASEing the Catty #121 Sale-A-Bration

Welcome to CASEing the Catty #121 – our final hop featuring the Sale-A-Bration catalogue.

That’s right!  As of the end of this month, Sale-A-Bration 2017 will be finished and there won’t be any further chances to redeem Sale-A-Bration products.

There’s lots to choose from across 3 releases – see the gallery at the end of this post for all the choices.

You’re going to love the projects the crew are sharing today.

My CTC projects were a little multi-taskng opportunity.

I caught up with a fabulous friend this weekend who asked me to bring along any blank / no sentiment cards I had lying around.  I was under strict instructions not to make any extra work for myself.

I completely followed those instructions – and created these lovely sentiment free cards for her as part of my CASEing the Catty requirements.

Sneaky – huh?

I love a ‘no sentiment’ card, so these were super fun to make.

What did I CASE you ask???

Well, it was the 2nd release flyer that was part of my plan, since I haven’t yet featured this in a CTC post.

Specifically, the cards on the front cover…

From those samples, to these inspired creations…

The first card used the doily feature, watercolour centrepiece & some of the pieces from Carosels & Cupcakes stamp set.

The next card uses the Stylish Stems Framelits along a centre panel with some of the Sale-A-Bration glimmer paper as a feature.

And the final card uses the sketch layout from the card – but in a monochromatic Night of Navy & Whisper White theme (with a touch of burlap / Kraft).

I can’t pick a favourite… can you?

With Sale-A-Bration nearing to an end, it’s time to stock up on any of your basics and/or buy the items on your wishlist.

You can shop in my online store 24-7 (host code: BCXWWYKA), or email me your order.

Please join our weekly challenge over on our Facebook page.

If you need a little more temptation before Sale-A-Bration finishes, then keep hopping to visit Julia‘s great projects.

Stamp Review Crew – Lift Me Up

Stamp Review Crew - Lift Me Up

An exciting Stamp Review Crew today as we hop around the world showcasing the Lift Me Up stamp set – and coordinating thinlits!

You may have started this hop with Bronwyn Eastley in Tasmania, Australia and travelled this way to the other side of the country (Bunbury, Western Australia) – or this part of the world might be your first point.

Stay down under with us for a while before taking off back to the US for more great projects.

Lots of the cards I’ve made with this bundle have been created using the colour palette from the Carried Away DSP – bright & fun.

I wanted to try some soft & pretty cards for today’s hope projects.

The starting point for each of these cards was a different shape from the Stitched Shapes Framelits – one circle, one oval & one square.

I watercoloured each piece with a different favourite subtle colour & then decorated with stamped & white heat embossed shapes from the stamp set in the same colour to create three different monochromatic cards.

Cards don’t have to be complicated to be lovely – sometimes clean & simple is best!

Next up on the hop is the gorgeous Rochelle Blok – one of many Artisans on the crew.

There’s certainly a lot of talent in this group, so enjoy as you hop around the world and collect ideas for how you might use your Lift Me Up bundle.

If you get lost anywhere along the hop due to a broken link, head back to the Stamp Review Crew blog to get you on track again!

A 2016 Full of Congratulations

2016 has been a wonderful year for our Stampin’ team – Paper Adventures. We’ve seen lots of personal growth, achievements and promotions – way to go team!

Kerry was the most recent promotion, sky rocketing to Bronze Elite!!!  This means that Kerry now earns a minimum of 25% on every order/sale.

To recognise this great achievement, I used some of my new Occasions & Sale-A-Bration products to create a card and gift set for her.

Hot Air Balloon Congratulations Card. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com.

Since it was a promotion of Bronze proportions, I added in some of the retired Champagne Glimmer paper for the hot air balloon.

Hot Air Balloon Congratulations Card. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com.

Tip: It’s tricky to cut through the glimmer paper for detailed dies.  Make it easier by tearing off the plastic layer on the back of the glimmer paper.  This makes the glimmer much thinner & easier to cut through.

The pencil case is super cute with metallic ‘rose gold’ (bronze) dots.  I added a shrink plastic “K” for Kerry using the Large Letters framelits, coloured with a Bronze Sharpie on the back before putting in the oven to shrink.

Here at Paper Adventures, we’ve grown in size over the past year, but there’s still  lots of room for more adventurers.

The coloured layers are easy to make with the dies – there 5 layers that fit perfectly behind the intricate hot air balloon die cut.  Easy peasy!!!

I’ve used the layers again for the second card – this time in a striped pattern.

This project is CASEd from the Occasions catalogue.  If you’d like a copy of the catalogue and don’t have a current demonstrator, please contact me.

For this card, I’ve added in the Carried Away DSP, which you can choose for {FREE} if you purchase this bundle in wood ($90.25).  Or purchase in clear ($78.25) & other catalogue favourite, bringing the total to over $90 and claim you free paper.

Floating Hearts – JAI259 & FMS182

Friends of mine celebrated their 1st wedding anniversary on the weekend.  This is the card I made for them using the Just Add Ink (sequins!) & Freshly Made Sketches as my inspiration.

Nothing says love like hearts!  How cute are the heart sequins making the hot air balloon string!?!

Did I mention that the retirement list comes out tomorrow!  One thing I know for sure is that all Crisp Cantaloupe items will be on there – cardstock, ink, ribbon, DSP, sequins…  The 2013-2015 In Colors are retiring and making way for 5 NEW colours!

Anyways, see you tomorrow for the full list.  In the meantime, Happy Anniversary to Ciara & Jason!  Kelly x

Floating to the Heights of a 2nd Birthday!

Good morning! Today’s card is … kids birthday card!  It’s been another action packed week of partying.

image

Celebrate Today has been a solid favourite of mine since appearing in the Occasions 2015 catalogue.  I’ve made quite a few balloon cards with it, but this is the first time I’ve added the basket to transform it into a hot air balloon.   By adding multiple balloons, I’ve made this hot air balloon 3D.  The background is from the Sweet Dreams DSP pack – what a cute design!  And the perfect background for my hot air balloon to float on.
