Stamp Review Crew – Flourishing Phrases

SRC Flourishing Phrases(1)

Hello!  It’s another Stamp Review Crew – the first for the new financial year and the first SRC hop featuring *NEW* products from the annual catalogue – how exciting!!!

I almost didn’t join in this hop as Flourishing Phrases didn’t quite make the cut for me (way too many amazing things to choose in the new catalogue!) – but thanks to one of amazing team members, I was able to borrow it for the occasion!  Thanks Kristel!

Flourishing Phrases comes in clear or wood…

… and has a coordinating thinlits set, which comes in a bundle, saving you 10%!

I’m last on the list today, which means you’ve probably hopped along from Sue and I’ll be linking you back to Mickey at the end of my post to complete the circle.

Each Stamp Review Crew hop is a round the world trip of creativity all focused on the same stamp set.  There’s always a range of creative ideas and something to inspire every crafter!

If you get lost or there’s a broken link, click on the header at the start of this post and it will take you to a full list of participants.

There’s lots of sweet & sensitive sentiments in this stamp set – which makes it great to have for those delicate occasions where you need just the right words!

But, it was the large flourish that drew me in.

I wanted to show it off in full effect – so I made a project set with a stamped candle and easel window card.

It was mighty tricky to get good pictures of this project set because of the reflections in the window pane of the easel card.

Photography is not my forte!

What it looks like when it’s open…

The front & middle panel are cut using the Layering Squares Framelits.  How do you get a rectangle from a square?

Cut the first square at the top of your cardstock with an even border around the top & side edges.  Move your framelit to the bottom section of your cardstock and with the same border allowance, line it up with the sides you’ve already cut – and cut again.  This will give you a rectangle!

The colour combination for this card all started with the candle.  I wanted the flourish to ‘pop’ so I chose a trio of bold colours & a neutral to tie it all together.

Before this project, I hadn’t ever ventured into the realm of decorated candles.

I’m not sure why – it’s so easy and looks fantastic!!!

How to:

  • Simply cut a piece of white tissue paper to the size of your candle circumference (the distance around the candle for the length x the height of the candle).
  • Stamp your images on to the shiny side of the tissue paper until you have the pattern you want
  • Lay the tissue paper around the candle and using your heat tool, gently melt the wax.  The tissue paper will absorb into candle and your stamped images will become part of the candle.

*** Note: watch carefully – melting the candle & tissue paper into each other only takes a matter of seconds.

This project set would make a lovely gift using whatever stamp sets you have in your collection – but the flourish from Flourishing Phrases is a great size & design!!!

Thanks for sharing my maiden candle stamping experience.

Next stop is Mickey Roberts over at Paper Conversation where she is sharing her wonderful creativity with us!
