Made using the new Sweet Cupcake bundle, this birthday gift set is a gluten-free, dairy-free & calorie-free scrumptious delight!

There’s 3 steps to the icing & cake wrapper elements which creates a wonderfully 3-D effect.

This cupcake is Blushing Bride, Sweet Sugarplum & Rich Razzleberry with Dazzling Diamonds glitter.

The wrapper/paper (what do you actually call it?) is Soft Suede & Crumb Cake (stamped off for the bottom layer).

Can you spot the other new products I’ve used for this card???

There’s the Layering Circles Framelits, Seaside embossing folder & Classic Label punch.  Oh, and my very favourite Sweet Sugarplum cardstock!!!

Sweet Cupcake Birthday Card using Sweet Cupcake stamp set, Cupcake Cutouts Framelits, Seaside Embossing Folder. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com.

Once my card was made, I wanted a little something to pop in the envelope to make it a birthday gift.  And that little something was a bookmark.

I like it when things are all matchy-matchy, so I kept with the Sweet Sugarplum, Blushing Bride & Silver glimmer colour theme.  Plus the same Seaside embossing folder background, but I added the flower from the Sunshine Wishes thinlit set.

Sweet Cupcake Bookmark using Sunshine Wishes Thinlits, Sweet Cupcake stamp set and Seaside Embossing Folder. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com.

But no birthday sentiment on this one.  I masked out the ‘you’ on the stamp and just inked up ‘happiness’.  Punched it out with the Classic Label punch and snipped off the ends!

Sometimes it’s the little ‘hacks’ that makes for clever crafting.  Do you have a great tip – leave me a comment & share your genius!

Hey, hey! It’s Father’s Day (in the US) – JAI#316

Hey, hey!  I know lots of my visitors each day hail from the United States of America.

And today in the US they are celebrating Father’s Day.

So, I thought I’d share in the celebrations with a masculine themed card using some more new products from the catalogue release.

This is my dark & broody motorcycle card using the ‘One Wild Ride’ stamp set.

JAI#316 - Stripes. Masculine birthday card - One Wild Ride stamp set. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com.

To tie in with the theme over at Just Add Ink #316 this week, I have accepted Patrice’s challenge to add stripes.

I was so excited to see that Stampin’ Up! have included a diagonal stripe background stamp!!!  Stripes are a great addition to lots of cards and a stamp means they can come in any colour – as many times as you like!  And, like this card – with whatever background cardstock colour you choose!!!

And, don’t fall off your chair… but I’m on a roll with decorating the inside of cards.  Nothing too elaborate, but it definitely adds a nice extra touch to the card.  Next stop…  envelope decoration!

JAI#316 - Stripes. Masculine birthday card (inside) - One Wild Ride stamp set. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com.

Another new addition featured in this card is the Basic Black Baker’s Twine – in solid black!!!  There’s 5 new solids colours in the Baker’s Twine range and they are fabulous!  {But then twine is one of my favourite products!}

JAI#316 - Stripes. Masculine birthday card - One Wild Ride stamp set. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com.

Hope it’s a very lovely Father’s Day in the US.  Ours is in September, so this card would be a perfect one (minus the birthday sentiment inside) for a motorbike loving Dad – if you are super organised!  Or you can pin for later!  Does anyone craft without Pinterest? Kelly x

Toot Toot – It’s Thomas & the Cameo

I’ve made a few Thomas cards across my crafting time.  He’s a tricky customer for punch art because of the unique shape of his train cab.

This week I needed a Thomas card for a special little man and went searching the net to see if I could find an SVG cut for my Cameo to help me out with the punch art side of things.

Success!!!  {kind of..}

You can find the download via the Cute As A Fox page (note: it redirects to a download page and there are some requests to sign in etc…. nothing is ever as easy as it seems!).

Unfortunately, the SVG download didn’t work in the Cameo software (I’ve now read the comments on the post and it seems the SVG is designed for a Cricut).

Not to be deterred from my plan, and a little problem solving later, I did manage to use the images from the pdf instructions & the trace function in the Cameo software to get all the pieces.  Slightly frustrating, but now that I have it all sorted, I’ve saved it for future Thomas cards.

Here’s is the end result of the process.  You’ll see that I still chose to print & punch out Thomas’s face – I think he looks more authentic with his actual face rather than attempting to do this with shapes & punches.

Thomas the Tank Engine Stampin' Up! & Silhouette Cameo hybrid card. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com.

The Thomas font is called Flange BQ and you can download it here.

I love how well my Stampin’ Up! range works with anything I want to cut in the Cameo to create cards with that extra special touch.

And how gorgeous is the glittery 2 using the Large Numbers Framelits.  It’s hybrid card making at its best!  Kelly x

Just Add Ink – Happy #300!!!

Congratulations to the Just Add Ink team who are celebrating 300 challenges and 6 years of awesome fun.  Well done!  With so many challenges on offer and crafters always looking for the next best thing, it’s lovely to see them keep going.  As you know, JAI is my fave weekly challenge.

This week for the big 3-0-0, the inspiration is a sketch (which no matter what I tried wouldn’t put itself into my blog post the right way around!)…

And what an awesome sketch for a special challenge!  The design team creations are very inspiring – you can see them here.

This is my challenge card…

Just Add Ink #300 - Sketch Challenge. Cups & Kettle framelits, silver doily, Happy Happenings stamp set & Going Places DSP. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com.

I seem to be all about blues at the moment. I started with the marbled blue DSP from the Going Place stack, which was going to be my kettle.  But when I cut it out, I found I loved the neutral side more – and the card just took off from there!

Just Add Ink #300 - Sketch Challenge. Cups & Kettle framelits, silver doily, Happy Happenings stamp set & Going Places DSP. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com.

I snuck in a retired embossing folder (do you still have this lovely pattern in your stash? I can’t part with it!) for the background, a silver doily for my teapot ‘mat’ and a happy birthday sentiment from my newest stamp set to arrive – Happy Happenings.

I just love awesome sentiment sets and this one from the 2015-16 annual catalogue is so cute – I don’t know what took me so long to buy it!

Happy milestone JAI – looking forward to playing along to many more challenges.  Kelly x

What Did You Do Yesterday? We Made Cards …

Yesterday was my Tuesday monthly card class.  Curious to see what we made?

This was the first card using the dandelion stamps from the Balloon Celebration stamp set.  We clear embossed these on Watercolour Paper and then washed over the paper with an Aqua Painter and ink colour of choice – yes, I let them choose their own ink colour and no Mary, I didn’t stop breathing!!!!.  This is the pink version I made using Blushing Bride.

Dandelion Watercolour Emboss Resist - Balloon Celebration stamp set. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com.

What you’ll need to make this at home …

The second card also featured watercolouring, inspired by the fun I had making last week’s Just Add Ink card.

The peony from the Birthday Blooms stamp set is just stunning and an easy image to splash some colour for beginner or advanced colouring. The front panel of the card is Shimmery White cardstock – a perfect base for watercolouring.  It has a subtle shimmer throughout that’s very special.  But, we couldn’t resist adding a little more shimmer with the clear Wink of Stella pen.

Love the background?  We put the whole card front into the embossing folder, which means the card is textured front & back – I love this effect!!!

Birthday Blooms Watercolour card with whole card textured embossing. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com.

What you’ll need to make this at home…

The final card (in what turned out to be a very vertical class!) was a quick & easy masculine card using lots of layers to create interesting texture.  Using a variety of plain, patterned and stamped cardstock is a great way to create a card that is effective, but doesn’t take too much time.  I love the watercolour effect of the balloons from the Balloon Builder stamp set – and who doesn’t love a stamp that perfectly coordinates with a punch!!!

Masculine themed layered card using Balloon Builders stamp set, Balloon Bouquet punch & Party Wishes stamp set. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com.

What you’ll need to make this at home…

I hope you’ll get a chance to try 1 or 3 of these cards at home.  They were such fun to make with a lovely group of ladies.

If you live in the Bunbury area and you’d like to book into a class, you can find the schedule here.  I’d love to have you and help you to make cards like the ones above to take home.  Kelly x

Just Add Ink 297 – Colour Challenge

I had the pleasure of spending the morning with Rhonda, my newest recruit.  We did some Stampin’ Up! training and of course – made a card!

Rhonda included the Happy Home stamp set and Home & Hearth Thinlits in her kit – so this was the starting inspiration for our card.

Combined with the Just Add Ink #297 Colour Challenge palette,

we made this cute card…

Happy Home Stamp Set and Hearth & Home Thinlits Dies from Occasions 2016 catalogue. Just Add Ink # 297 Colour Challenge. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com.

Tips & Tricks:

  • Use your Aquapainter with Pool Party & Pear Pizzazz inks to get a subtle background finish for your Happy Home window scene
  • Turn the cardstock diagonally in your Stylish Stripes embossing folder to get straight stripes
  • Use punches to make 1-1/4″ & 1-3/8″ circles and add them to your Label Bracket punch to create a layered sentiment

I have someone very special in mind to give my card to, I hope they like it!  Kelly x

Don’t You Forget About Me / Another Brick In The Wall …

Apologies for the corny old school song lyrics in the title – it’s all I could think of as I started to write this post!

In the midst of all the new catalogue hype, it’s so easy to abandon the old faithfuls in the craft room.  Products that were once new & exciting get pushed to one side as they are replaced with new favourites.  It happens – we all love to be inspired by fresh design ideas!

But, I wanted, for a moment, to ignore the pretty, shiny things just unpacked from the Big, Brown Box & dust off some of the products I love from the annual catalogue.

The result was this simple, masculine themed card using the Brick Wall embossing folder, burlap ribbon, label bracket punch & Tag Talk stamp set.

Inked Up Embossing Folder Technique - Brick Wall Embossing Folder, Burlap Ribbon, Label Bracket Punch & Tag Talk Stamp Set. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com.

Tips & tricks:

  • Ink up your embossing folder with Soft Suede ink before you put the cardstock in & run it through the Big Shot to get this distressed look.
  • Layer elements of your card to create texture & focal points – I added a banner behind my Label Bracket punch piece for just one more layer.
  • Stamp an image a second time on scrap, cut part out and attach to your main image to add different tones to your centrepiece – I have added the ‘birthday’ section of the stamp in Early Espresso to make the greeting richer.

Do you remember what it was that first attracted you to Stampin’ Up! as a brand.  For me it was the things within the range that coordinated.  Coordinating colours – paper, ink, embellishments; and coordinating products – stamps that had a matching punch.  And do you know what?  Those are still the things I love today!  Kelly x

2016 Catalogue Launch Event – Card Buffet & a Firie Thanks

Yesterday I hosted (crammed?) a lovely group of ladies at my house to share the 2016 Occasions and Sale-A-Bration catalogues & products with them.  As always, it was cosy and everyone was very patient.

If you’re get to see the catalogues, you can view the pdf copies here – Occasions & Sale-A-Bration, view the range online here or request a hard copy here.

Anne Barker was the lucky recipient of the door prize, many took home lucky winner prizes and lots of beautiful cards were made.

So many thanks to Kristel, one of my wonderful team, for helping me out.  You were amazing!

Following on from an idea I’d seen on Carolyn Bennie’s blog, the ‘create’ part of the morning was a card buffet for the lovely ladies to choose from.  I made 6 kits with instructions so they could pick & choose which card/s they wanted to make.  This gave them the chance to play with the products they were most fascinated by.

These were the choices:

Kit#1: Sky’s The Limit Stamp Set & World Traveler Embossing Folder

2016 Occasions Catalogue Launch Event - Card Kit #1 Sky's The Limit & World Traveler Embossing Folder. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com.

Kit #2: Bloomin’ Heart Thinlits Die, Birthday Bouquet DSP, Large Numbers Banner & What I Love Stamp Set

2016 Occasions Catalogue Launch Event - Card Kit #2 Bloomin' Heart Thinlits Dies, Birthday Bouquet DSP, Large Numbers Banner & What I Love stamp set. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com.

Kit #3: Wildflower Fields DSP, Large Numbers Framelits & Number of Years Stamp Set

2016 Occasions Catalogue Launch Event - Card Kit #3 Wildflower Fields DSP, Large Numbers Framelits & Number of Years stamp set. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com.

Kit #4: Botanical Gardens DSP, Botanical Builder Framelits & Enjoy The Little Things Stamp Set

2016 Occasions Catalogue Launch Event - Card Kit #4 Botanical Gardens DSP, Botanical Builder Framelits & Enjoy the Little Things stamp set. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com.

Kit #5: Rose Wonder Stamp Set & Rose Garden Thinlits

2016 Occasions Catalogue Launch Event - Card Kit #5 Rose Wonder Stamp Set & Rose Garden Thinlits. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com.

Kit #6: Balloon Celebration Stamp Set & Balloon Bouquet Punch

2016 Occasions Catalogue Launch Event - Card Kit #6: Balloon Celebration Stamp Set & Balloon Bouquet Punch . Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com.

Can you guess which kit was the most popular?  It was actually the Botanical Gardens card.  People loved the 3D effect of the flower and the leaf edgelit die – it’s a stunning set with lots of opportunity.

If you’ve been following the news over the past few days you may have seen the tragic bush fires that have are sweeping across the south west of WA.  Over 70,000 hectares of land has been burnt including homes, farms, bush and a complete townsite.  It’s incredibly sad- the loss and devastation is mind blowing.

We are over 50kms away from the closest fire and in no danger, so it was a good chance to use my launch event to help by raising some money and doing what we do best – making some cards to thank the wonderful fire fighters.

These are the cards the ladies made today (filled with lovely messages of support) using the “A Nice Cuppa” and the “Cups and Kettle Framelits“.  I love the diversity, despite the same pieces to work with…

Thank you cards for the WA Firefighters using the Have a Cuppa bundle. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com..

Thank you cards for the WA Firefighters using the Have a Cuppa bundle. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com..

As well as sending these off, I am donating 5% of all orders this weekend directly to the bush fire appeal.  If I can help with you any Stampin’ Up! products and help the bush fire appeal at the same time, please contact me or order online. Happy 30th Little Bro!

Today my ‘baby’ brother (who has been much taller than me for most of my life) turns the big 3-0!  He tells me that not much will change, but he might grow up… and not just in height! We’ll see!

He’s an avid hiker, so I used the Woodland Embossing Folder (currently unavailable, but due back in 2016), the new Sky Is The Limit Sale-A-Bration set and the super awesome Number of Years and Large Numbers bundle from the upcoming Occasions catalogue.

30th Birthday Card - Large Number Framelits Number of Years stamp set & Sky Is The Limit SAB stamp set. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com.

You’ll want to get the Large Numbers as part of a bundle because the stamp set is fabulous – with beautiful watercoloured numbers, great sentiments and also some flowers and flourishes.  At $85.75, you’re most of the way to the $90 SAB spend – which means add another $5 to your order and you can choose the limited edition Sky Is The Limit stamp set.

And if you’re short of ideas for things to try – try the Gold Wink of Stella pen – I’m am totally in love with these pens.  They just lift the whole project with a touch of shimmer.  And as you can see, shimmer is not just for girly cards!

Gold Wink of Stella pen - featured in the Occasions 2016 catalogue. Large Numbers & Number of Years bundle. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com.

Did you notice that I said Sky Is The Limit is a “limited edition”???  (I wonder if SU! intended for that pun?).  That’s right – 3 of the Sale-A-Bration items (pages 16 – 19) are only available until 15 February, so if they are your favourites, you’ll want to redeem them first.  The great news is that Stampin’ Up! will release more limited edition SAB items on 16th Feb!!!  And you get one free item with EVERY $90, so while some of them might be limited editions, there is no limit to the amount of Sale-A-Bration items you can collect.

Happy Birthday little bro – hope the next decade is truly awesome and that ‘growing up’ goes well!  The Papercraft Family x
