Endless Birthday Wishes

Endless Birthday Wishes is just of of the sets available in the “Endless” range from Stampin’ Up!.  Last Christmas they brought out Endless Wishes (now retired sadly!).

Then they brought out Endless Birthday Wishes in the US market and luckily for everyone in the South Pacific, it appeared in the 2015-2016 Annual Catalogue along with Endless Thanks.  Both sets are only $A28 – making them an affordable and versatile addition to your stamping collection.  The builder style of sentiment makes it easy to create a range of themed cards by adding the elements together.

For this first birthday card, I combined the Endless Birthday Wishes with Little Letters thinlits…

It’s a little hard to see in the photo, but the candle flames have a touch of Silver Sparkle Dazzling Details.  One of my SU! team, Sonia, swears by glitter on everything – and I think she’s dragging me to the sparkly side, one card at a time!  I’ve been adding sparkles to more than a few of my cards lately.  It really does finish the card off!  Full sparkle ahead!!!  Kelly x

Watercolour by Request – Three Ways

My class on the weekend had a watercolour theme by request.  I love designing classes that suit the stampers in attendance – it gives the project design a little something extra.

Watercolouring is lots of fun and has many different styles. Within the Stampin’ Up! range, you can use Watercolor Paper, Shimmery White cardstock & Whisper White cardstock as your base.  Then your tools of choice are blender pens or aqua painters.  And finally a choice of ink – Staz On, Archival Black/Grey, Craft White (for bokeh). Each combination gives its own result.  Changing one feature can change the project entirely.

Here’s what we made…

As a technique, colouring can take a little bit of time to develop your skills.  Some people are drawn towards one method of watercolouring more than others – which is what art & expression is all about.  I always forget to take pictures of what the ladies made during the class, but their end products were so creative and it was a pleasure to watch their cards evolve as they added colour & played with their own style.

Thanks for the inspiration ladies, it’s always so delightful to spend time crafting with you.  Kelly x

My Holiday Catalogue Favourite – that’s going to be a year round winner!

The Holiday Catalogue is always a tricky one for me – so many gorgeous products with very definite themes… Christmas, Thanksgiving, Halloween.  Now, being “down south” I don’t need to make cards for Thanksgiving or Halloween, so that takes a few off the list.

Christmas is definitely on the agenda… but how many Christmas sets does a girl need?  I’d love to have them all but had to settle for a few stand outs.

And then the rest of the holiday additions are products I like to think of as versatile.  Stamp sets and tools that can be used long after tinsel has fallen down and Christmas presents are all unwrapped.

For me, the Hearth & Home Thinlits are on the year round list.

Beautiful for Christmas…

Fabulous for thanks …

And perfect for birthdays…

The thank you card features a bigger than normal window. Thanks to Angela Lorenz who shared her tip on using the die to make a double window.  Using the same theory, I’ve used it to make a ‘bay window’ with 6 window panes.  This die is versatile in more ways than one!

It seems my interest in cards with a window frame was a little ahead of the trend (see my Cameo cut window frame card here) – very unlike me!!!  Now that I have such a cute die, I can’t wait to try out more ideas – Christmas and not!  Kelly x

Time for a Challenge – 2 cards, 1 sketch, 2 colour combinations!

This week, it’s a whole bundle of challenges all in one post.  I’ve taken the Freshly Made Sketches sketch #186 and combined it with 2 different colour challenges.

This is the sketch:

And I’ve teamed it with the ESAD Demo Designs challenge by Richelle Fletcher:

And also the Just Add Ink #262 colour challenge by Di Barnes {go to Di’s blog and check out her JAI sample card – it’s stunning!):

Like a proud parent I can’t choose which version I like best.  I do know that I {LOVE} the tulips and have everything crossed that this makes the carryover list once the Occasions catalogue finishes on 2nd June.  Kelly x

Try a Technique – Inked Up Embossing Folders

As you know, there are so many clever techniques out there for making ‘wow’ cards.  I have tried inking embossing folders before, but not for a while, so it was almost like a new ‘wow’ moment for me.

I’ve combined my technique fun with the Just Add Ink inspiration challenge (JAI261).  Don’t you just love the colours in the theme!?!

This is my card:

image

The Technique: The background is made by inking up the inside of the embossing folder (top or bottom depending on what you want inky and what you want uninked) with a brayer and ink from a classic stamp pad.  I used the Spring Flowers TIEF and the gorgeous *soon-to-be-released* in-colour Tip Top Taupe.  It took me a bit of practice (Alexa is going to love it when she finds the rejects on her craft table!) but I got there eventually.  I found I got the best finish when I put the embossing folder through the big shot sideways (rather than with the fold first, rotate 90 degrees so it goes through long side first).  It’s a bit of a squeeze but it fits!

Although the inspiration photo is all leaves, when I first saw the cushion in the picture I thought it was a tree.  And then I couldn’t shake it – great first impression!  I love all the texture and layers in this card.  And the colours!  The mix of blues, white & taupe is just divine.  Thanks JAI!!!  Kelly x

Happy Mother’s Day from the Cheeky Monkeys!

Happy Mother’s Day!  I hope you are reading this while enjoying breakfast in bed and unwrapping a parcel of Stampin’ Up! lovelies {a girl can only dream!}.  With Mr Papercraft working away, we celebrated Mother’s Day during the week.

This is me with my two little monkeys and the card they selected just for me – not quite a Stampin’ Up! masterpiece but I’m not sure I could pull off punch art chimpanzees with that much character!

This is the card I made for my Mum for Mother’s Day.  A bit cheeky actually, as the stamp set is hers!

Foxy Punch Art

I’ve been away this weekend and made a dash to Will’s first birthday party this afternoon, so I’m only just getting a chance now to share his card with you.  The colours and theme were once again inspired by a birthday invite, which for Will’s party was “Woodland Animals”.

Here is the fox punch art.  I’ve discovered over the past few weeks just how versatile the Flower Fair framelits are for punch art!

image

Fox Punch Art Breakdown:

Face: 1-3/8″ Circle Bermuda Bay circle with the sides cut out using the Large Oval, then glued onto a Whisper White 1-3/8″ Circle

Ears: Bird Builder

Eyes & Nose: Cupcake Builder

Body: Large Oval (tummy is retired Small Oval)

Legs: 1/2″ Circle snipped to size

Tail: Flower Fair framelits

For that extra special ‘foxy’ touch inside, I added the fox from Hey, Valentine.  I was able to mask the original sentiment, and add in happy birthday which made him the perfect match for Will’s first birthday card.  A wonderful happy coincidence!!!

image

And this is the card!  Will’s invite had a fabulous stripy font for his name, so I downloaded Bad Stripes from dafont.com and using the RGB codes for the Stampin’ Up! colours, I recoloured each of the letters to match my Stampin’ Up! pallette.  And to finish it off, I added Happy Birthday, from “From the Herd” which is also fabulous & stripey.  I do love it when everything coordinates.

image

The card was loved by Will’s family and we loved the party.  So, a good day for everyone!  Happy 1st birthday Will!  Love Kelly and the baby foxes x

Just Add Ink #254 – Colour Challenge

This is week 2 for me as a guest designer with the Just Add Ink team.

Just Add Ink #254 is a colour challenge.

image

I think orange is such a polarising colour – generally you love it or avoid it.  I have to say I’m usually in the avoid group, but it was nice to be forced into using it for my pirate card.

The Hey, Valentine stamp set was a late Occasions catalogue purchase for me.  On & off the wish list for the past few months (love it … don’t make many v-day cards… so cute for kids cards … don’t love the sentiments…), I finally gave in to the cuter-than-cute pirate.  I H-A-D to have him.  And like most of my on-again-off-again purchases, there are no regrets.  I haven’t cut the sentiment off the stamp yet, but I am known to butcher up my stamps if I think it suits my stamping better.  For this card though, a bit of masking tape action and the ‘you’re a treasure’ remained un-inked.  The stamp survives another day!

image

With this being a tough pirate card, I roughed up the edges using the distress tool.  It’s a nice change from my usual clean lines.

It’d be great to see lots of cards submitted for Just Add Ink this week.  Get creative with the challenge colours and add your creation to the Just Add Ink blog.  Kelly x

Thank you, thank you, thank you! JAI 251

This week’s Just Add Ink challenge was {perfect} for me!  I have lots to be thankful about at the moment, but the most blog relevant is …

Over 500 Pinterest followers!

Over 150 blog subscribers!

image

Wow – that’s a lot of people sharing in my papercraft journey! Thanks to each & every one of you.

image

This is my card for Just Add Ink 251.  I’ve used Irresistibly Yours DSP, coloured with Melon Mambo Blendabilities markers.  There are lots of ways to colour the ’emboss resist’ DSP – markers, sponging, painting, braying, spritzing.  The products on pages 210-212 of the catalogue will set you up with everything you need!

I’ve added vellum to the top and finished with the ‘thanks’ (minus the ‘s’) and ‘you’ from the Hello You thinlits.  And for good measure, and happy balance, added a bejeweled Petite Petals flower.

So, once again – thank you!  A blog isn’t worth writing unless someone is reading it.  And it makes me smile to know you are reading it.  Kelly x

“Herd” You Were … Looking for some card ideas!

I’m still loving “From the Herd”.  It’s so fun much to colour the farm animals with Blendabilities & they make a great centrepiece for a light hearted (gender neutral) card.  I love the match with the Hardwood Background Stamp which is a constant favourite on my craft table.  It’s fabulous when the old & the new make such good friends.

These are two of my recent creations.  In this one I wanted the animals to be peeking out from behind a fence to mimic the ‘looking in on you’ sentiment.  It makes for a perfect get well card.

image

The second is for a work colleague who is leaving.  There isn’t a ‘good luck’ type sentiment in the set, which is  shame because the first thing I thought when I saw this stamp set in the catalogue was “woo hoo, a ‘from all of us’ sentiment that would be perfect for group cards”.  Not to worry – the computer came to the rescue and I was able to add in my own sentiments.  I love the “punny” of using ‘herd’ rather than ‘heard’.  I hope the person receiving the card gets it, otherwise they’ll think I’m a really bad speller!
