Just Add Ink #443 | Choose Two – Colouring & Sequins

Every time I design for Just Add Ink I think about how much I love the variety of challenges!  I can’t pin down a favourite but I always love the creativity that comes from a “Choose Two” challenge.

This week it’s a choice of embossing paste, colouring or sequins!

Image may contain: text

As always, I could have gone in so many different directions with this theme.  I was tempted to dig my unnecessarily unloved embossing paste out, but in the end decided on colouring and sequins for a shaker card.

Piece of Cake Shaker Card | kelly kent

When Stampin’ Up! added rectangle framelits, I knew I was going to love them!  They make everything pretty and shaker cards an absolute ‘piece of cake’.

Piece of Cake Shaker Card | kelly kent

I started by repeatedly stamping the candles across the bottom of the card base and coloured them with Stampin’ Blends – Daffodil Delight, Flirty Flamingo, Bermuda Bay & Granny Apple Green.  I chose these colours based on the DSP spots.

Piece of Cake Shaker Card | kelly kent

The frame was cut using two rectangle framelits (2 sizes apart) and backed with Window Sheet.  To create the depth ready for my shaker sequins, I lined the back with a border of Foam Adhesive Strips and adhered it to a piece of How Sweet It Is DSP cut 1/4″ bigger than the frame size.

And then finished it off with a pretty drip cake and more candles from the Piece of Cake bundle. I love the variety of cakes and embellishments in the stamp set.  And being able to cut it out with a punch is great for saving time and having a beautiful neat finish.  I don’t mind fussy cutting, but give me a punch any day!

This bundle is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!!  So amazing in fact that it’s almost sold out in Australia and once current stocks have been depleted, it won’t be orderable again til new stock arrives in mid-late March.  If you haven’t already added it to your collection, I suggest a quick little order!  Click here to view in my online store.

Piece of Cake Shaker Card | kelly kent

If you still haven’t ordered Rectangle Framelits (WHAT???), you can add those from the online store too.  Click here to visit.  Then you can make as many easy-peasy shaker cards as you’d like.  Full supply list at the end of this post in case you need other products too like foam adhesive strips & window sheets.

We’d love to see what this challenge inspires you to make.  Head over to the Just Add Ink blog to upload your entry and see the full range of design team cards.

Thanks for being a fabulous part of Just Add Ink!  We appreciate having such a diverse following!

Stamp Review Crew | Bella & Friends

What a great way to start 2018 – with a Stamp Review Crew blog hop!

Thanks for joining our group of international demonstrators as we all showcase a stamp set.  You can find the main SRC post here.

You are starting the New Year with Kelly Kent in Bunbury, Western Australia.  You may have already visited Nikki on the east coast of Australia, and the next stop is Cindy Elam in the US (I think it’s still 2017 there!).

Today’s stamp set is Bella & Friends from the Annual Catalogue….

It’s the perfect set for any project that needs to be cute!

Although I often make cards, for my blog projects, I’m starting this year with a 3D item using a Pizza Box as the base.  I’m was so happy to hear that these cute little boxes will continue to be available into 2018!

Stamp Review Crew - Bella & Friends | kelly kent

Bella & her turtle friend are coloured using Watercolor Pencils & smoothed over with an Aqua Painter.

We have so many amazing colouring options in the range at the moment!  Have you gotten your watercolour pencils out lately?  I’d been neglecting them, but after playing with my Lots of Happy kit during the week, I was reinspired.  That’s where I borrowed the Lemon Lime Twist Pencil from – there’s a few sneaky new colours!!!

Stamp Review Crew - Bella & Friends | kelly kent

What’s on the inside????

Stamp Review Crew - Bella & Friends | kelly kent

I’m thinking that this would make a great ‘by the phone’ type pad – only no one I know has a tabletop phone anymore!!!  But a notepad you have lying around the house for when you need to jot down a shopping list, phone number or leave a note for someone.

A really cute note!  All the pages are stamped with images from the stamp set…

Stamp Review Crew - Bella & Friends | kelly kent

And since there’s cute pictures, I thought it would be good to include some colouring pencils to up the fun factor!

Stamp Review Crew - Bella & Friends | kelly kent

I’m sure you spied the calendar on there – it’s always handy to have a calendar on hand when you’re planning ahead!!  I love the size & quality of these calendars available from Craftie Cafe.  Plus, it’s the time of the year when having calendars on projects is very practical!

Stamp Review Crew - Bella & Friends | kelly kent

The paper pad came from Kmart Australia I had in my stash. I can’t find it on the website at the moment, so it might not be available at the moment.  It measures 8cm x 8cm.

Stampin’ Blends – Available Now!

Can you hear the buzz around crafting land???

Stampin’ Up! have been working tirelessly over the last couple of years to reformulate and bring back a range of alcohol markers!

I’m excited to share that starting today, you can now order Stampin’ Blends in 12 exclusive Stampin’ Up! colours plus 2 skin tone/neutrals (Bronze & Ivory).  This means they match all the favourite products you already own!!!

Watch the video below for more information on Stampin’ Blends.

One of the perks of being part of the Stampin’ Up! family is to be able to order products before they hit the online store.

We’ve been playing with these gorgeous markers during classes in October and the feedback is wonderful.  My team are saying how easy to use they are, how beautifully they glide on, how much they love the colours and have either bought the set or are planning on how what order they’ll build their supplies.

The markers are available in single colours, in colour set duos and as a set of 27 (12 colour families, plus two skin tone markers & the Colour Lifter).

There’s also a new stamp set (Colour Me Happy) and project kit available as part of the Blends launch.  Click here to see the flyer with all the details.

I bet you’re curious to see the results of our play time!

I’ve already shared a couple of projects with you.  You can see the lantern card I made for our team swap here.

And the Blends in action with the Home for Christmas stamp set by clicking here.

My newest card to share with you uses the Just Add Color DSP (which is like sheets of an adult colouring book!!!).

Stampin Blends & Just Add Color | kelly kent

I’ve cut the card front into three strips, and only coloured the middle panel.

Stampin Blends & Just Add Color | kelly kent

This is a much more manageable way to practice colouring (and is a cool spotlight effect).

For this card, we practiced mixing colours – the light & dark of the Old Olive set and the light & dark of the Crumb Cake set.

Stampin Blends & Just Add Color | kelly kent

The Just Add Color DSP has 6 different designs!  That’s a lot of colouring practice!

If you’d like to order some Stampin’ Blends and start some colouring therapy, visit my online store for access to the full stock!

You might only start with a couple of colours, but I bet you’ll be back for more!  They are addictive!

Stampin’ Blends are a new design alcohol marker available to purchase from 1st November 2017.  They are so easy to use – the colour just floats on!

We’ve been having fun using them at classes this month – paired with the Ready for Christmas bundle.

We used the staircase & tree stamp for this card….

Ready for Christmas | kelly kent

As well as colouring the presents & staircase, the new Blends are fantastic for colouring pearls.

Ready for Christmas | kelly kent

I’m still a beginner when it comes to alcohol markers, but these truly are a dream to use!

Ready for Christmas | kelly kent

The second card uses the super cute Daschund puppy from the stamp set – cute but mischievous!

Ready for Christmas | kelly kent

I wouldn’t be far from the truth if I told you I mostly bought this stamp set for the Daschund!!!

Ready for Christmas | kelly kent

I love mixing & matching my Stampin’ Up! supplies.  For this card, we used the Petal Garden DSP – not intended for Christmas but a gorgeous background for this card.

Ready for Christmas | kelly kent

Colour INKspiration #12

Can you believe we’re about to enter the second half of the year on the weekend???

We had the winter solstice last week and I’m looking forward to gradually seeing long days.

Unfortunately I think there’s lot of cold weather ahead, but before we can blink, it’ll be summer again and we’ll be close to welcoming in 2018!!!

Today for Colour INKspiration we’ve got a wintery combination inspired by beautiful photo full of wool (or yarn as you might refer to it in other parts of the world).

No automatic alt text available.

There are 8 colours to choose from  – and we’re asking you to include at least 4 from the list…

Whisper White, Night of Navy, Elegant Eggplant, Cherry Cobbler, Flirty Flamingo, Dapper Denim, Smoky Slate & Peekaboo Peach.

As well as a challenge to use these rich tones (I naturally prefer ‘pretty’ or ‘bright’), I challenged myself for CI#12 to use items that I ordered from the new catalogue but that had not yet been touched.

Yes… sign of a true addict!

The first product I pulled out was the Just Add Color Specialty DSP.  This wasn’t initially on my list, but after seeing it ‘in person’ while cutting it up for my paper share I decided I {had to own it}.

This paper created the focal point for my cards – and the challenge colours inspired the rest!

Each card uses a different combination of the colours above, but across all 3 cards I’ve used all 8 colours.

Colour INKspiration #12 | kelly kent

All the images you see in these cards have been cut from the DSP – no stamping for the main images.  It’s such a great way to add diversity to your projects.

Colour INKspiration #12 | kelly kent

The sentiments are from another product that I couldn’t wait to own, but have yet to break out – the In The City stamp set, available for purchase with hostess rewards.

Colour INKspiration #12 | kelly kent

Did you spy the embossing folders??? I was so excited to have these patterns in the new catalogue. The cards each feature a new & different 3D Dynamic Embossing Folder – Ruffled, Pinewood Planks & Layered Leaves.

Colour INKspiration #12 | kelly kent

My cards didn’t look quite finished, so I used one more new product – a bit of bling!  Although not technically ‘new’, rather reconfigured, the Pearl Basic Jewels have had a makeover.

I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing the Just Add Color DSP, Dynamic Embossing Folders and In The City stamp set in action.

And maybe even found another ‘must have’ like me.  Every time I think I have what I need (for now), someone shares an amazing creation that makes the wishlist even longer!

If you’re in the need for more temptation – or just love to see wonderful creativity – then click the next button below to be transported across the country to the lovely Tanya Bell on the Sunshine Coast!

If these colours make you warm & cosy and feel like crafting, then we’d love to see you over on our Colour INKspiration Challenges Facebook page where you can see the creations the colour combination has inspired the members to create and share yours.

Stay warm (or cool if you’re north of here!).

CASEing the Catty #111 Sale-A-Bration

12371218_10153736740662158_9102306381153319857_o

Did you love the switch to Facebook for CASEing the Catty last week?  We had so many amazing entries CASEing the projects from the Party Animal suite & next few pages of the catalogue.  Overall for CTC#110 we were CASEing pages 4-7 of the Occasions Catalogue.

Quite a few people thought they couldn’t participate because they didn’t have the stamp sets in this section.

Hopefully, we’re getting the message out – but just in case you missed it – CTC isn’t about recreating the sample projects in the catalogue, but more taking whatever inspiration you can from the photos.  It might be the layout, colour combination, design feature, stamp set or overall theme.

Let the catalogue start your creative process and see what you come up with!  It’d be great to see more stampers join in again this week.

This week is CTC#111 and it’s all about introducing the Sale-A-Bration catalogue.

Images © Stampin' Up!

The crew has free range on the whole catalogue this week – I can’t wait to see what sparks everyone’s attention.

For me, it’s another Inside the Lines card – the paper has 4 designs and I’m working my way through them!  You can see two of them here.

My card is a variation of the design at the bottom right of the sample picture above (with perhaps a touch of the top right too):

CASEing the Catty #111 - Sale-A-Bration. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com.

To achieve this look, I brayered the DSP with Rose Red ink and then coloured the flowers & dragonfly with my new Watercolor Pencils before giving the flowers a once over with an Aqua Painter.

Adding water to the pencils smooths the colour & blends it beautifully.

How pretty is the Rose Red?  One of my team pointed out that I rarely use Rose Red.  Here you go Anne – Rose Red in action!

The dragonfly is embossed in copper, and so is the sentiment, which is from the Sale-A-Bration set “Any Occasion”.

I’m making the effort in 2017 to decorate the insides of my cards.

I’m on beginner level, so it’s a strip of DSP, some dragonflies and a birthday sentiment!

It does add another layer of love to the card.

I’m sure the projects on this hop will inspire some wonderful creativity and add a little more to your wishlist!

Next stop is Miss Rachel and her lovely designs.

If you {NEED} those Sale-A-Bration items in your craft room, it’s a choice of 12 – one per $90 you spend with Stampin’ Up! until 31st March 2017.

Shop online or email me to get your order on the way.

If you’ve got time to craft this week, consider joining our challenge via Facebook.

Simply be inspired by any of the photos in the Sale-A-Bration 2017 catalogue and upload your card to the challenge album.

Stamp Review Crew – Made With Love

I am so absolutely excited to share the news with you, that I have been invited to join the Stamp Review Crew!

This talented group of international designers posts twice a month – highlighting a different Stampin’ Up! stamp set in each blog hop that takes you around the world with endless inspiration!

Thanks to the team for having me on board!  You can find a full crew list to the right.

Stamp Review Crew - Made with Love

For my first stamp review, the chosen set was Made With Love – which is a gorgeous baby set from the Annual Catalogue.

When I saw that this was the set, I was delighted – because I am currently organising a baby shower for one of my besties.  I have bought her a couple of cute little baby presents, but I thought she might also appreciate a set of thank you cards to give to her friends and family over the coming months.

With a bit of sponging, some shimmery white cardstock, cute little animals and a lot of fussy cutting – I created this little “Made With Love” notecard holder.

The cute little notecard holder has been my go-to present for the last couple of months in various different designs.  It’s so simple & elegant and the perfect size!

Thanks to Caroline Helwigh Wright for the notcard holder measurements.  You can find them here.

This is the front…

There are 2 each of 4 notecard designs, each featuring a different Made With Love animal on an ombre background.

The background was sponged using a piece of cardstock with a 2″ circle punched out to create a template.  With my sponge daubers, I applied my three colours – the top colour is Pool Party, then Bermuda Bay, then Lost Lagoon.  I love the mottled effect of using multiple ink colours.

And with my blender pen, I added a dash of colour to each of the animals.  I love that you can use all your colour tools with only your ink pads – no extra supplied needed!

While I was on a roll with my sponging & fussy cutting, I also made her a card to put away for when the baby is born.  Things that match make my heart sing!

Well, that ended up being very photo heavy!  I may have been a little enthusiastic when I was snapping away {a wee bit excited!}.

Just Add Ink 297 – Colour Challenge

I had the pleasure of spending the morning with Rhonda, my newest recruit.  We did some Stampin’ Up! training and of course – made a card!

Rhonda included the Happy Home stamp set and Home & Hearth Thinlits in her kit – so this was the starting inspiration for our card.

Combined with the Just Add Ink #297 Colour Challenge palette,

we made this cute card…

Happy Home Stamp Set and Hearth & Home Thinlits Dies from Occasions 2016 catalogue. Just Add Ink # 297 Colour Challenge. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com.

Tips & Tricks:

  • Use your Aquapainter with Pool Party & Pear Pizzazz inks to get a subtle background finish for your Happy Home window scene
  • Turn the cardstock diagonally in your Stylish Stripes embossing folder to get straight stripes
  • Use punches to make 1-1/4″ & 1-3/8″ circles and add them to your Label Bracket punch to create a layered sentiment

I have someone very special in mind to give my card to, I hope they like it!  Kelly x

Just Add Ink #296 – Nature

I’m sneaking in an extra late-night post today so that I can show you my card for the Just Add Ink Nature challenge.

Stampin’ Up! has a love of all things nature – flowers, animals, outdoor scenes.  There was actually too much choice – and that was just from the new Occasions catalogue!

I ended up deciding on the beautiful flower from the Birthday Blooms stamp set because I haven’t yet had a chance to ink it up yet & colour it in!

Just Add Ink - Nature. Birthday Blooms stamp set. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com.

I used my blender pens & the ink from my ink pads to colour the flower, taking my colour palette from the Birthday Bouquet DSP.  And, {it’s not my fault}, but I’m unable to add a flower to a card at the moment without brushing it over with my clear Wink of Stella pen.

Just Add Ink - Nature. Birthday Blooms stamp set. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com.

It’s so sparkly & pretty!!!  Although my liberal use isn’t quite like raindrops on the petals, I love the ‘misty’ feel it adds.

I’m thinking of using this stamp set in my upcoming classes – what do you think ladies?  Kelly x

Boys Will Be Boys, But Girls Like Lego Too!

My Little Miss Papercrafts have been loving playing with Lego of late.  As well as the traditional Lego, you can also buy ‘girly’ sets now in purple, pink, aqua & a pale yellow – it’s such a lovely colour combination.

So, when it was time to make a couple of birthday cards this week, it was Lego all round – because girls like Lego too!

This is the traditional ‘boy version’ using red, blue & yellow.  The overlapping bricks were done using the masking techqniue of stamping the image onto a post-it note, cutting it out and sticking it over the previously stamped image so it ‘masks’ out the image and they don’t overlap.  I used my blender pen to colour these bricks – otherwise they end up too dark if you just use Stampin’ Write Markers.

Custom Lego birthday card. Boys Will Be Boys & Remembering Your BIrthday stamp sets. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com.

And this is the ‘girl version’ with modern Lego colours.  Because the colours from the Subtles Collection are much lighter, I was able to colour the bricks directly using the Stampin’ Write Markers.

Girls Like Lego Too Custom Birthday Card. Boys Will Be Boys & Remembering Your Birthday stamp sets. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com.

The Lego lettering was cut using my Silhouette Cameo.  You can download the Lego font here.  There was a bit of fusing around with welding & offsetting but I was so pleased to be able to replicate the style of the Lego logo.

Happy Birthday to the little Lego loving birthday kids.  I hope they love their new sets.  Kelly & the little misses x
