Stamp Review Crew | Beauty Abounds

Hello to the new week!  I know it’s going to be a good one when it starts with a Stamp Review Crew hop!  It’s always a pleasure to join my international demonstrator friends and share projects with you inspired by the same stamp set.  See the full line up of demonstrators on the Stamp Review Crew blog by clicking here.

This week we’re showcasing the Beauty Abounds stamp set and coordinating dies.  I actually didn’t buy this stamp set originally – just the dies.  But then I had stamp envy after seeing so many gorgeous samples and just had to have it!!!

While shopping at Smiggle with the girls last week (a cutesy stationary shop that’s very popular with my kids), I picked out some little lip balms to put in our present box.  We like giving gifts, so I’ve always got a selection of sweet little things for the girls to give their friends.  Smiggle always has something great to add!

Smiggle Unicorn Lip Balm

Although cute on their own, I thought they’d be even cuter if I added some Stampin’ Up! love to them.

In the past I’ve put the lip balm together with a butterfly.  This project steps it up one more notch and I’ve added this element to a post-it note holder with a pen.

You can find the instructions for the post it note holders by clicking here.  Thanks to Kristina Rees for a great tutorial.

The pack included several different colours of lip balms, so I made a few up, ready to have to hand when we need a present.

This version is Highland Heather & Gorgeous Grape with some little butterflies.

And Pool Party with Bermuda Bay.  While making this one, it occured to me that this stamp set would be fabulous to make your own DSP.  I hope someone has done that in the hop!

I attached the lip balm to the post it note holder with mini magnets so it could still be used.

This stamp set is gorgeous and there’s so many ways to use it!  I love that it looks great in any colour and with those dots, isn’t limited to one theme or occasion.

February – why are you leaving us so quick???

I know February is the shortest month of the year, but this one just zipped by me!  Things at Papercraft HQ went into serious overdrive – three kids to keep alive, three houses to look after, a birthday, some anniversaries, the start of school, resuming card making classes for the year and so much more meant every day was a whirlwind of activity!

With all that happening, it’s only in the final moment of February I’m marking some things off my to-do list – like posting birthday cards for friends!  They will arrive in March, but I posted them in February – so it still counts!!!

I’ve always appreciated having a birthday month, so hopefully the recipients will too!

I made these cards using some Occasions Catalogue favourites and also a new DSP available as a Level 2 Sale-A-Bration reward.  See the second release catalogue by clicking here.  The Painted Seasons DSP comes in a bundle with a floral stamp set – available to redeem when your order reaches $180.

I like to make multiples of cards with subtle differences.  Easy changes – like a different size butterfly in this case – give you a different card for minimal design effort.  Other easy changes are – changing the orientation or using different colours or DSP.

The second card used the same die set, but the large butterfly as the centrepiece.

Both cards have the same bokeh dots in Poppy Parade, Grapefruit Grove & Blushing Bride (to coordinate with the DSP) on a Rectangle Label (of course!), a Stitched Label die cut and a heat embossed sentiment.  The sentiment is cut down from the ‘FRIENDSHIP’ stamp in the Beauty Abounds set.  I always love it if I can get multiple uses from the words in a set.

And those dots – I’m still in love!  I originally bought the Beauty Abounds stamp set just for the dots.  And I have no regrets!

The stamp set also has a lovely flourish that I thought would look nice on the inside of the card.  Seems to be the month for extra decorating!  I love colouring with my Stampin’ Blends – they are so smooth and luxurious!

Here’s hoping that March is a little slower in pace but just as full of love, happiness and fun!

Just Add Ink #445 | Embossing

Hello!  You’re going to love the Just Add Ink challenge this week – we’re adding embossing!

Image may contain: text

Make a project with any kind of embossing you like – heat, paste, folders….  There’s so much potential!  Go nuts and add all the embossing if you like!

I decided this challenge was the time to dust off my neglected embossing mat and use them with the Butterfly Beauty Thinlits to create a pretty background effect.

Just Add Embossing JAI#445 | kelly kent

If you haven’t used an embossing mat before, it’s an extra set of layering plates & mats for your Big Shot that transform cutting dies into embossing dies.  They don’t cut through – they just leave the imprint on your cardstock.  Magic!  Especially when you add a spritz of Shimmer Paint (which of course you can’t see in the photo – but it’s there and it looks fab!).

Just Add Embossing JAI#445 | kelly kent

I’ve layered butterflies from the same Thinlits set on top and cropped down one of the bigger sentiments to just include ‘friend’.  Of course, the sentiment is heat embossing in white – that’s my favourite use of embossing!

The DSP is from the Floral Romance suite.  This sheet is a vellum finish and just gorgeous!  The colours and pattern are so beautiful.  I love Rich Razzleberry and Old Olive together.

Thanks for stopping by today.  To see all the design team projects and add your card to our embossing themed challenge, visit the Just Add Ink blog.

CASEing the Catty #211 | All My Love

Today is the end of another wonderful Sunday in January!  In Australia, January is such a lovely time – the days are long & warm, it’s school holidays so it’s lazy starts and fun days and no school lunches to pack!!!

How was your weekend?

The other great thing about Sundays is it finishes with a CASEing the Catty blog hop.  Today the Crew are sharing projects inspired by pages 4-9 of the Occasion Catalogue – the All My Love suite and following pages.

No photo description available.

So much love in this section of the catalogue – but as you’ll see from the Crew’s projects, they are great inspiration for all occasions.

I was inspired by the ‘You are Loved’ card on page 4 of the catalogue…

I wanted to recreate the look of having a die cut on the top layer and colour peeking out from the bottom layer.

The new Butterfly Beauty Framelits seemed like the perfect choice for this technique.

Butterfly Beauty | kelly kent

This style of card is better for an avid crafter who has a few supplies.  I cut the butterfly segment from a piece of Whisper White cardstock (4″ x 5-3/4″) and layered a piece of the beautiful All My Love DSP behind it.  I then added Multi-Purpose Adhesive Sheet to another piece of Whisper White cardstock and cut the butterflies again.  If you like using small dots of Tombow glue, you could use the die cut from the first piece.  The butterfly die segment sits back inside the negative piece.

Butterfly Beauty | kelly kent

To add some detail to the card, I cut the bottom right butterfly again from the same sheet of DSP, and used the top right butterfly from my first white die cut and layered these on top of the big butterfly in the middle.

And since I had a leftover DSP butterfly, I carried the theme through to the middle of the card.

Butterfly Beauty | kelly kent

The sentiment is from Itty Bitty Birthdays – this is a fabulous new set filled with awesome birthday sentiments.  If you send lots of birthdays cards (like me), you’ll want to make sure to order this to coordinate with all your favourite themed sets.

If the All My Love section of the catalogue sparks your creativity this week, we’d love for you to upload your CASEd creation to our Facebook group.

Continue the hop by visiting Lauren Meiklejohn and her beautiful blue card…

Have a fabulous week!
