CASEing the Catty #139 – Everyday Occasions

Good evening!  Thanks for joining us for CASEing the Catty, where the design team takes you on a journey of projects inspired by the insides of the Stampin’ Up! catalogues.

You might have come from Sandra Collett in NZ, or you might be starting here.  Either way, there’s lots more to explore, so be sure to keep hopping by click on the next button at the bottom of each blog.

If you love what you see and would like to join us for the weekly challenge, head over to our CASEing the Catty Facebook page.  Each week sees 2 winners – it could be your fabulous creation!

The theme for the CTC challenge this week is the Everyday Occasions section of the catalogue.

My card to share with you this week is a bit of a happy accident.

I was prepping for my monthly card class last week and so far the cards I’d designed were very ‘neutral’ is their colour schemes.

So, I turned to the catalogue for some bright & fun inspiration.

This photo on page 50 caught my eye…

And when I realised what section it was in – BINGO!  One project, two uses!!!

So, transforming the bag you see at the top into a card, this is what I ended up with…

Although Fresh Fig is a lovely colour, I can sometimes find it a little dark, so I’ve freshened this card up by using Rich Razzleberry cardstock & ink.

I couldn’t go past the Fresh Fig Sheer ribbon though – it’s a delightful new catalogue favourite that I am totally in love with!  And guess what?  It comes in 3 other colours!!!

While we’re talking ribbon, is bow tieing on your love or hate list???

I don’t mind a mini bow with thin ribbon, but I’m a hot mess with thick ribbon!!!

I did want to share something with you today.  When I was working a part-time job in retail during my university days, I gift wrapped countless packages and tieing oh-so-many ribbons.

Someone amazing (I can’t remember who), taught me this little ribbon trick for wrapping ribbon around your package – or card – so that the ribbon sits flat across the back and repositions easy even after it’s tied.

Watch this video to see if I can pass on the technique…

I was so excited about the Vertical Greetings stamp set when it appeared in the Annual Catalogue last year, but I feel like I haven’t made the most of either the cute tree stamps or the vertical greetings, so it was a great opportunity to ink them up!

We decorated the inside of the card too to complement the clean & simple lines of the front (and to use more of the adorable stamps from the Vertical Greetings stamp set!).

To see the next creative idea, you need to travel over to visit the lovely Julia Quinn.

I hope your week is full of happy coincidences – or just happy!

June Team Birthdays!

June was another month full of birthday in the our Paper Adventures Team!

I’m still in my matchy-match card and gift phase.  It’s fun not only matching my papercraft materials to the necklaces, but matching the necklaces to the recipients!

First up it was Cate’s birthday!  Cate joined a couple of years ago, using her birthday money to buy her starter kit.  The rest is history!

Cate loves purple!  It was tricky to get a photo of this card showing off just how lovely the Bundle of Love DSP is!

Then it was Narelle’s birthday.  Narelle is my stamping sister and the one who lead this pony to the Stampin’ Up! pond!

Narelle is quite partial to pink!

I used the bleach technique on the panel of this card to remove the colour from the flowers – simple but effective!

And it was also my upline’s birthday – Maxine Norrish, who once upon a time said, “would you like to join, you’ll get free paper”… And the rest is history!

These colours are perfect for the types of outfits that Maxine wears!

Just Add Ink #366 – Add “A”

Welcome to another week of Just Add Ink.  So many lovely entries – thanks so much to all the artists that join the challenges each week!

We’ve got another wonderful theme just week – add “A” as suggested by Tina.  “A” is a great letter – it offers so many options!

I have used “A” for {APPRECIATION}.

One of the stamp sets that caught my eye in the new catalogue was the ‘World’s Best Trophy’ set.  I loved the huge variety and number of personalised sentiments it offered – 53 stamps in all!!!

As it turns out, the generic sentiments make a great card of appreciation!

I used the ‘world’s greatest’ to stamp the background in a repetition pattern, offsetting the line spacing so that it reads across as well as down.

And then I used the ‘you’re the’ & ‘best’ stamps to create a focal point using banners to make it award or medal like in keeping with my theme!

And yes, using Coffee Break DSP again – I just love it!!!

Since the first card worked out so well I thought I’d make another in more girly colours.  I have so many women in my life that I am appreciative of – so this is for all of you!!!

More lovely DSP – this time using the Bundle of Love DSP.  Pink on one side, gold on the the other!!

As with many of my card designs, I made it ‘same-same-but-different by not only changing the colours, but flipping the layout into landscape mode.  It’s a great way to create a new card with little extra design time.
