Colour INKspiration #35 | Neutrals

Stampin’ Up! ® has just had a major colour revamp so to start off the new catalogue year at Colour INKspiration we’ve decided to feature a Colour Collection for the first challenge each month (2nd Wednesday) until we have showcased them all! The second challenge in the month (4th Wednesday) will be a Pinterest inspired pic as per usual just to mix it up a bit. This month we are starting off with the NEUTRALS COLLECTION and you can choose any 3 colours from that range for your challenge project. We are also changing the rules about what else you can add to the mix; essentially just the Basics – Whisper White, Very Vanilla and Basic Black as well as metallics.

The Neutrals range had a big shake-up in the Color Revamp.  Black, White & Vanilla became “Basics”, Chocolate Chip retired, Night of Navy moved in and we were joined by Gray Granite, Merry Merlot & Mossy Meadow.

The inclusion of a dark blue, red & green may seem strange in a collection that we are used to seeing filled with browns, grays, black & white, but Stampin’ Up! research found that people were using colours like Night of Navy as a neutral – in that it provided a great coordinating colour for the other collections.

I wanted to make a card for a team member who has recently finished a further studies course – it’s been a big 12 months for her and I’m so proud of everything she’s achieved!!!

She loves blues, so I’ve used Night of Navy and combined it with Basic Gray and Smoky Slate for my 3 Neutrals.

With my colours sorted, I turned to the sketch running at TGIF for the layout

This is the card….

I coloured Deightfully Detailed DSP segment with Smoky Slate using the Sponge brayer and also a layer of Shimmery White with Night of Navy Ink.  Using inks in a colour challenge as well as cardstock is a great way to get variation in colour tones as the ink may be a less intense version of the colour.

The sentiment was made using the Celebrate You Thinlits (if these look familiar, it’s because they were a Sale-A-Bration item that have carried over to the 2018-2019 Annual Catalogue).

The top layer of the ‘amazing’ was made using the now retired Myths & Magic Washi Tape, layered on a Basic Gray die cut to give it definition.  The “you” is Night of Navy covered with Wink of Stella (also layered on Basic Gray).

CASEing the Catty #135 – Holidays

This week at CASEing the Catty – the challenge where we ask you to be inspired by the pages of the Stampin’ Up! catalogue – we are taking our creative instructions from the Holiday section.

No automatic alt text available.

This year the Holiday section of the catalogue covers more than Christmas, although it’s where you’ll find all those sets that are perfect for the early bird who wants to make festive cards all year around.

Christmas in July is a popular concept in Australia due to the large migrant populations from the Northern hemisphere wanting a cold, wintery and sometimes snowy Christmas!

So, there are many who celebrate an alternative Christmas during the month of July with big feasts, great company and all the Christmas trimmings.

For others, it marks the second half of the year and a milestone to start the preparations for the big day in December.

After a flurry of Christmas cards in late June on my blog, I’m having an ‘it’s only July’ panic and have decided to use the Christmas inspiration for a magical birthday card!

The striking background of this Christmas card caught my attention…

So I turned it pink & girl for a fairy birthday card….

To achieve this look, I started with Shimmery White cardstock and brayered the whole layer with Blushing Bride ink.

I then cut a 2″ circle from scrap paper and used this to create a mask for the moon shape, and then brayered again with Sweey Sugarplum ink.

And finally, I added Berry Burst in the corners.

I love the Star of Light swirl, so I kept this but added in a silver fairy…

With all that sparkle & bling, it’s going to be one of those cards that a photograph doesn’t do it justice!

The card is finished with a ‘magical’ silver sentiment from the Magical Mermaid stamp set (I knew that set was going to work well with the Fairy Celebration stamp set!!!) and some bling – pink Glitter Enamel Dots & Rhinestones.

This challenge is a great excuse to kick start your Christmas card stash!  And put some great ideas out there for other crafters to be inspired by.

Join us on the CASEing the Catty Sunday Challenge Facebook page to see the week’s creations and add yours to the mix!

And also hop through to Krissy’s lovely card

Hope your weekend was amazing and the week ahead is even more fabulous!

CASEing the Catty #111 Sale-A-Bration

Did you love the switch to Facebook for CASEing the Catty last week?  We had so many amazing entries CASEing the projects from the Party Animal suite & next few pages of the catalogue.  Overall for CTC#110 we were CASEing pages 4-7 of the Occasions Catalogue.

Quite a few people thought they couldn’t participate because they didn’t have the stamp sets in this section.

Hopefully, we’re getting the message out – but just in case you missed it – CTC isn’t about recreating the sample projects in the catalogue, but more taking whatever inspiration you can from the photos.  It might be the layout, colour combination, design feature, stamp set or overall theme.

Let the catalogue start your creative process and see what you come up with!  It’d be great to see more stampers join in again this week.

This week is CTC#111 and it’s all about introducing the Sale-A-Bration catalogue.

The crew has free range on the whole catalogue this week – I can’t wait to see what sparks everyone’s attention.

For me, it’s another Inside the Lines card – the paper has 4 designs and I’m working my way through them!  You can see two of them here.

My card is a variation of the design at the bottom right of the sample picture above (with perhaps a touch of the top right too):

To achieve this look, I brayered the DSP with Rose Red ink and then coloured the flowers & dragonfly with my new Watercolor Pencils before giving the flowers a once over with an Aqua Painter.

Adding water to the pencils smooths the colour & blends it beautifully.

How pretty is the Rose Red?  One of my team pointed out that I rarely use Rose Red.  Here you go Anne – Rose Red in action!

The dragonfly is embossed in copper, and so is the sentiment, which is from the Sale-A-Bration set “Any Occasion”.

I’m making the effort in 2017 to decorate the insides of my cards.

I’m on beginner level, so it’s a strip of DSP, some dragonflies and a birthday sentiment!

It does add another layer of love to the card.

I’m sure the projects on this hop will inspire some wonderful creativity and add a little more to your wishlist!

Next stop is Miss Rachel and her lovely designs.
