Paper Adventures Team Blog Hop: Birthday Theme

It’s my birthday, which makes it the perfect reason to have another team blog hop!

With all the originality I could muster, the theme for this hop is ‘birthday’!

Be sure to click on the link at the end of each post to take you to the next blog or Facebook page and see what the talented Paper Adventures team have created.

It’s super handy having your birthday in the same month as pre-order!!!

Happy birthday to me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am most excited about the Happy Birthday Gorgeous Bundle.

I have been waiting for a Happy Birthday Thinlit – and the coordinating stamp set is stunning (to a font nerd like me).

So of course, it was first on my pre-order list!

Using this bundle, and the cute little girl stamp from the Birthday Delivery stamp set (another new catalogue gift… from me to me!), I made this gorgeous balloon overload birthday card.

I love that many of the new Stampin’ Up! products coordinate with products we already have – like the Balloon Bouquet punch!

And how amazing is that birthday thinlit!!!

And did you spy the cuter-than-cute bow holding all the balloons together?

Blank of course, so I can fill it in once I've worked out just how much I need!

Pre-tied bows in the 2017-2019 In Colors are available on 1st June!

Since I’m all into buying my own birthday presents – I make it very easy for my family – I thought a gift voucher was in order.

This is the gift voucher holder I made to keep it safe…

It's My Birthday Team Blog Hop | kelly kent

I carried over the theme of the little girl and colours from the balloons.

You’ll notice the voucher has been left blank… so I can fill it in once I’ve worked out just how much I need!

What a cute little set!

Thanks for hopping with us today and sharing in my birthday!

Next up is our guest designer for this hop –  my gorgeous friend, Lou Kitzelman.

If you need a list of participants in this team hop, here’s the full list.

Just Add Ink #353 Critters

Just Add Ink Design Team

Thanks to the fantastic suggestion by Karren, this week at Just Add Ink, we’re all making or stamping critters.

This has created a bit of discussion on the JAI design team page as we chatted about what defines a critter???

It seems that any living creature or animal-like character fits the bill.

I wonder if my Gruffalo card would pass the critter test? (PS, I am never making that card again!)

My critter thoughts took me to a special birthday card I wanted to make for a very special person!

Carolyn Bennie, who is just as delightful in person as she is over a computer screen – had a birthday this month.  And one of my all-time favourite designs of hers was this cute swinging koala.

Now, it’s hard to compete with that level of amazingness – but I do know that she appreciates and loves a good pun.

As do I!

So, I sent “koalaty’ birthday wishes over to South Australia.

Just Add Ink #353 - Critters. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com.

This is my third version of a punch art koala (see the other two here and here).

I decided that this one would be made using the Blossom Builder punch (and the 1/2″ &  1-1/2″ circle punches).

Just Add Ink #353 - Critters: Koala punch art. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com.

To make your own Blossom Koala:

Ears: 1/2″ circle with flower in the middle

Head: 1-1/2″ circle

Eyes: Owl Builder Punhc

Nose: leaf

Mouth: hand drawn

Body: 1-1/2″ circle

Tummy: large petal

Arms: leaf

Legs: leaf with end snipped off

This might be the best koalaty (quality) one yet!

Thanks for letting me share it with you!

You can find all the design team projects by visiting the Just Add Ink blog!

You’ll also be able to upload your critter inspired projects & join the challenge.

I’m looking forward to seeing lots of cuteness!

Decorative Corner Fold Card

#imbringingbirthdaysback

Today is Kristel’s birthday.  Happy birthday!!!

Kristel was the first member of my team and is a wonderful companion to share my journey with.

Since we’re bringing birthdays back, it seems fitting that the card should be fun, vibrant and a little fancy.

This wonderful Decorative Corner Fold card was designed by Debbie Henderson of Debbie’s Designs.  We made the Botanicals version during last month’s Tuesday class after Joy found it online and thought it looked pretty special.  She’s right – it’s fabulous!

The reasons for it’s fabulousness are simple – it’s easy to make but looks fancy and can be prettied up in any way you like.

For Kristel’s card, I’ve gone with Party My Way DSP, Balloon Celebration balloons and Endless Birthday Wishes sentiments.

I took lots of photos of this one to show off all the features.

Side view, including a panel to write on….

It folds flat for posting…

You can follow Debbie’s measurements and directions exactly (instructions here, video here), or you can follow my slightly adapted measurements to fit with Australian cardstock.  You will get two Decorative Corner Cards from one piece of A4 cardstock.

Instructions:

  • Cut your cardstock in half (so you have 8-1/4″ x 5-7/8″)
  • Score across the long edge at 2″, 4″, 6″ & 8″
  • Place a strip of Tape & Tear along the 1/4″ edge left by the scoring
  • Adhere this to make your ‘box’
  • To make the front panel, punch 2 x 1-1/4″ circles. Fold in half & with the folds meeting, place adhesive on the back & adhere to the card front.  Place adhesive on the front & add your decorative panel (the picture above or Debbie’s video will help if this doesn’t make sense!).

Enjoy decorating your card with whatever stamps & DSP fit your theme.  Thanks to Debbie for her generous sharing of her instructions & measurements.  Kelly x

Stamp Review Crew – Balloon Celebration

Balloon Celebration banner

This week at Stamp Review Crew we are celebrating the beautiful “Balloon Celebration stamp set” from the Occasions catalogue.

Because this is a blog hop, there’s a round the world trip to see all the beautiful crafty creations.  You might have travelled via Nikki showing off her talents or be starting here.  Either way, you’re in for a treat.

If you get lost along the way, click on the banner above and it will take you to the main page where you can see the full list of participants.

Balloon Celebration is a great stamp set because it has a variety of sweet images – balloons, dandeloins, clouds, a wheel (?), stars, a bow and more if you’ve got a great imagination.

Which gives you so many options (as you’ll see on this hop!).  There’s also fabulous sentiments which means you can use it for practically any card.  Or combine it with other stamp set or product suite (it goes perfectly with the Have A Cuppa range) and the card options are endless!

Today I’ve decided to showcase the cloud stamp from the set – and include as much sparkle as I could!

The balloons are wonderful, but there’s just so much you can do with this set to stop at the balloons.

Stamp Review Crew: Balloon Celebration stamp set. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com.

The first card I’m sharing is my favourite – I can’t wait to send it off to a new little princess!

The balloons are double stamped to give them a deeper colour {because you can do that sooooo easily with photopolymer stamps!} and finished off with a generous splash of clear Wink of Stella.

The awesome sentiment stamps on this card are from the Happy Happenings stamp set in the Annual Catalogue.

As an aside, it’s getting to that time of the year when I’m nervous to see what will & won’t carry over in to the new catalogue.  Not too much longer to wait now!

Stamp Review Crew: Balloon Celebration Stamp Set. Bonjour Beautiful Welcome Baby Girl card. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com.

Once I was on a roll with the subtles colour scheme, this was the next card with sparkly clouds & pastel stripes.  I think it will make a perfect birthday card for one of Alexa’s little classmates.

The clouds are embossed with the simply stunning Iridescent Ice embossing powder – so much sparkle!  And how lovely is that Pool Party ribbon???

Stamp Review Crew: Balloon Celebration stamp set. Sparkly Clouds Birthday Card. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com.

Of course, I couldn’t make a card without adding some of those signature balloons using the coordinating punch (because we all love sets with coordinating punches).

It ended up being a subtle feature, but I actually tried to add in some shading on the balloons by stamping over the original image twice – each time blotting off ink from the right side of the balloon (which ends up being the left side of the stamped image!).  This is a great technique to use with photopolymer stamps as you can see through them to get that second & third inking just right.

Stamp Review Crew: Balloon Celebration stamp set. Let Us Celebrate Balloon Bouquet. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com.

That’s it from me today.  Keep hopping so you can get the full inspiration intake from the crew.  Next up is Dawn, who despite a self-confessed lack of mojo is totally rocking this stamp set!  Gold embossing powder is always a winner!

If you have time to leave us a comment or two as you hop around, we sure love hearing from you!  Kelly x

Happy Birthday Sweet Girls!

Today is a very big happy birthday to 2 sweet little girls.

Miss I is 3 today and we’re excited to be celebrating with her!

This is her fairy princess ballerina card – it could be all of those at the same time, right?

Ballerina Princess Fairy Punch Art card using Baby's First Framelits & Botanical Builders Framelits. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com.

The punch art dress uses the Baby’s First framelit onesie and Botanical Builders 3D flower framelit.

How super cute is the ruffled effect of the skirt using the Botanicals framelit???  The die cuts the middle out of the petal, so it naturally lifts and has great texture.  It’s hands down one of my favourite products from the Occasions catalogue.  Oh and yep, another touch of clear Wink of Stella!

Ballerina Princess Fairy Punch Art card using Baby's First Framelits & Botanical Builders Framelits. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com.

Did you spot the limited edition Sale-A-Bration items – Perfectly Artistic DSP and Hello stamp set…  Going in a few short days!!!  Available until 15th Feb 2016 with any $90 order.

It’s also a special day for Little Miss Papercraft who turns 5 today!  I just love the watercolour balloons from Balloon Builders and can’t go past a good ombre effect.  So, this is the fun card I made for her.  Blue was her favourite colour last week – hope it still is today!!!

Balloon Builders Ombre Heart Birthday card. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com.

You know it’s love when you’re willing to use the heart balloon stamp and fussy cut rather than the round balloon you can punch.  Thankfully, 5 years old = 5 balloons!

So, happy birthday sweet girls – I know you’ll both have amazing days filled with so much fun and lots of love.  Kelly and the Papercraft team x

What Did You Do Yesterday? We Made Cards …

Yesterday was my Tuesday monthly card class.  Curious to see what we made?

This was the first card using the dandelion stamps from the Balloon Celebration stamp set.  We clear embossed these on Watercolour Paper and then washed over the paper with an Aqua Painter and ink colour of choice – yes, I let them choose their own ink colour and no Mary, I didn’t stop breathing!!!!.  This is the pink version I made using Blushing Bride.

What you’ll need to make this at home …

The second card also featured watercolouring, inspired by the fun I had making last week’s Just Add Ink card.

The peony from the Birthday Blooms stamp set is just stunning and an easy image to splash some colour for beginner or advanced colouring. The front panel of the card is Shimmery White cardstock – a perfect base for watercolouring.  It has a subtle shimmer throughout that’s very special.  But, we couldn’t resist adding a little more shimmer with the clear Wink of Stella pen.

Love the background?  We put the whole card front into the embossing folder, which means the card is textured front & back – I love this effect!!!

What you’ll need to make this at home…

The final card (in what turned out to be a very vertical class!) was a quick & easy masculine card using lots of layers to create interesting texture.  Using a variety of plain, patterned and stamped cardstock is a great way to create a card that is effective, but doesn’t take too much time.  I love the watercolour effect of the balloons from the Balloon Builder stamp set – and who doesn’t love a stamp that perfectly coordinates with a punch!!!

Masculine themed layered card using Balloon Builders stamp set, Balloon Bouquet punch & Party Wishes stamp set. Kelly Kent - mypapercraftjourney.com.

What you’ll need to make this at home…

I hope you’ll get a chance to try 1 or 3 of these cards at home.  They were such fun to make with a lovely group of ladies.

If you live in the Bunbury area and you’d like to book into a class, you can find the schedule here.  I’d love to have you and help you to make cards like the ones above to take home.  Kelly x

Birthday Wishes to the Cheeky Miss Papercraft

It’s another birthday here at mypapercraftjourney HQ!  The littlest Miss Papercraft turns 2 today!  You might have seen her invites earlier in the week {I’m still in love with them!}.

This is her birthday card.  I’ve been meaning to try a rectangle card in a box for a long time and this seemed like the perfect occasion.  I used the instructions from the lovely Di Barnes at colour me happy.

The balloon theme has been perfect for a birthday celebration and great for card inspiration!  The balloon from the Cutie Pie Thinlits Die is so cute!!!

image

I knew there was a reason why I hoard so much DSP… there’s always a time when you need something in particular.  For this card it was the colours & balloon design in the recently available Birthday Bash DSP.  I also added in a bit of bling – birthdays always need bling!  Thankfully the Gold Glimmer Paper is still current!

image

Just a few presents for the little miss today.  She needed a new backpack for day care and I couldn’t resist the amazing designs at Tiny Me.  The long present at the front is a name puzzle – I think she’s going to hate us one day for giving her such a long name!!!  And the yellow package is all about Minions including a card made by the biggest Miss Papercraft.

Happy birthday to our adorable, cheeky & fun 2 year old!  I’m sure the next year is going to be an interesting one!!!  Love you always & forever, Mummy & Daddy Papercraft.

Teachers Cards – “Merry Christmas from the whole bunch”

image

These two ‘super-size’ card designs are the product of a custom request from one of my favourite customers.  She dreams up big ideas then it’s my job to turn them into a reality.  The brief for this one was to create 4 personalised Christmas cards in green & gold for kindy teachers with flowers or balloons and the phrase “from the whole bunch”.  There was a bit of agonising (on my part!), but the final result was amazing.  I loved them, she loved them & the teachers loved them – that’s a win!

image

I was lucky enough to add a Silhouette Cameo to my papercraft family last month.  This card gave me the chance to break it out!!!  I’ve had one on my wishlist for a while and my wonderful hubby surprised me with one #luckyme.  The “Christmas” & “Mrs” wording are digitally cut using the Cameo.  The teachers names are old school – cut in the Big Shot using the Perfect Print Bigz Dies.  And the requested “from the bunch of us” was simply printed using Word on the computer.  Using a variety of techniques & sources gives the card a little extra zing.  I’m looking forward to sharing more hybrid projects with you that use the Cameo as well as traditional papercraft.  Kelly x
