Winter Wedding Wishes

Here in Australia, not many people have weddings in June.

Why not?  Because it’s winter and the weather is much nicer October to March, which is when you are most likely to attend a wedding.

On saying that, planning a February wedding isn’t exactly a walk in the weather park either!

We got married on 13th Feb 2009.  The week leading up to the wedding was 40 degrees (104 Fahrenheit for those of you needing the other scale) on 4 consecutive days.

We’d chosen black suits with black shirts for the guys and heavy red dresses for the girls (crazy I know but I had a vague Valentine’s theme!).  And of course I had layers upon layers of wedding dress!

In a stroke of wedding luck, the weather dipped down to a pleasant 29 degrees and was gorgeous.

You can control lots about the wedding but not weather! I’ve been to weddings where it’s rained, weddings where it’s been cold & weddings where I’ve been blown away.

One thing you can control is a sensational wedding card!!!

This card was a custom request from a friend who went to a winter wedding last weekend.

One of my personalised creations with a design that was inspired by the invite.

The invite had a black & white theme with cute fairy light bunting.

The bride’s new initials will match her husbands so my friend asked that this was a feature of the card.

Would you find it funny or frustrating if your initials were the same?  I ended up with alliterated initials by changing my name – I like it!

This theme was super easy to carry over to the inside of the card with the new Pick a Pattern black & white Washi Tape!

This is one of my all-time favourite wedding sentiments.  You’ll find it in the Better Together stamp set.

And you’ll find all your favourite Stampin’ Up! products in my online store.

Good Morning! It’s New Catalogue Day!!!

Happy Wednesday, the first day of winter (here in Australia) and welcome to the new catalogue!!!

The new colours are beautiful, stamps amazing & product selection plentiful.  There really is something for everyone in this catalogue.

This is a card we made in a class on the weekend using the bright & beautiful Flirty Flamingo, Sweet Sugarplum & Peekaboo Peach inks.  The Definitely Dahlia stamp is carrying over from the 2016 catalogue.

Just Add Ink - #313 Add "B". Baby Wipe Technique - Definitely Dahlia stamp & 2016-2018 In Colors: Peekaboo Peach, Sweet Sugarplum & Flirty Flamingo. Kelly Kent -

Using the ink refills, we made our our ‘stamp pad’ using a baby wipe.  This technique give a lovely marbled effect and shows off the new colours beautifully.

I wonder what the girls over at Just Add Ink will think for my ‘Just Add B #313‘ entry.

We also used ‘any colour’ embossing.  Did you know you can emboss in any Stampin’ Up! colour???

Simply ink your stamp in Versamark, then your chosen colour (Rich Razzleberry is pictured in my card) and then cover with clear embossing powder.  Heat as usual and the resulting colour will be a slightly lighter version of your chosen ink.

Decorative Corner Fold Card

Today is Kristel’s birthday.  Happy birthday!!!

Kristel was the first member of my team and is a wonderful companion to share my journey with.

Since we’re bringing birthdays back, it seems fitting that the card should be fun, vibrant and a little fancy.

This wonderful Decorative Corner Fold card was designed by Debbie Henderson of Debbie’s Designs.  We made the Botanicals version during last month’s Tuesday class after Joy found it online and thought it looked pretty special.  She’s right – it’s fabulous!

The reasons for it’s fabulousness are simple – it’s easy to make but looks fancy and can be prettied up in any way you like.

For Kristel’s card, I’ve gone with Party My Way DSP, Balloon Celebration balloons and Endless Birthday Wishes sentiments.

I took lots of photos of this one to show off all the features.

You can follow Debbie’s measurements and directions exactly (instructions here, video here), or you can follow my slightly adapted measurements to fit with Australian cardstock.  You will get two Decorative Corner Cards from one piece of A4 cardstock.

  • Cut your cardstock in half (so you have 8-1/4″ x 5-7/8″)
  • Score across the long edge at 2″, 4″, 6″ & 8″
  • Place a strip of Tape & Tear along the 1/4″ edge left by the scoring
  • Adhere this to make your ‘box’
  • To make the front panel, punch 2 x 1-1/4″ circles. Fold in half & with the folds meeting, place adhesive on the back & adhere to the card front.  Place adhesive on the front & add your decorative panel (the picture above or Debbie’s video will help if this doesn’t make sense!).

Enjoy decorating your card with whatever stamps & DSP fit your theme.  Thanks to Debbie for her generous sharing of her instructions & measurements.  Kelly x

Stamp Review Crew – Balloon Celebration

Balloon Celebration banner

This week at Stamp Review Crew we are celebrating the beautiful “Balloon Celebration stamp set” from the Occasions catalogue.

Because this is a blog hop, there’s a round the world trip to see all the beautiful crafty creations.  You might have travelled via Nikki showing off her talents or be starting here.  Either way, you’re in for a treat.

If you get lost along the way, click on the banner above and it will take you to the main page where you can see the full list of participants.

Balloon Celebration is a great stamp set because it has a variety of sweet images – balloons, dandeloins, clouds, a wheel (?), stars, a bow and more if you’ve got a great imagination.

Which gives you so many options (as you’ll see on this hop!).  There’s also fabulous sentiments which means you can use it for practically any card.  Or combine it with other stamp set or product suite (it goes perfectly with the Have A Cuppa range) and the card options are endless!

Today I’ve decided to showcase the cloud stamp from the set – and include as much sparkle as I could!

The balloons are wonderful, but there’s just so much you can do with this set to stop at the balloons.

The first card I’m sharing is my favourite – I can’t wait to send it off to a new little princess!

The balloons are double stamped to give them a deeper colour {because you can do that sooooo easily with photopolymer stamps!} and finished off with a generous splash of clear Wink of Stella.

The awesome sentiment stamps on this card are from the Happy Happenings stamp set in the Annual Catalogue.

As an aside, it’s getting to that time of the year when I’m nervous to see what will & won’t carry over in to the new catalogue.  Not too much longer to wait now!

Stamp Review Crew: Balloon Celebration Stamp Set. Bonjour Beautiful Welcome Baby Girl card. Kelly Kent -

Once I was on a roll with the subtles colour scheme, this was the next card with sparkly clouds & pastel stripes.  I think it will make a perfect birthday card for one of Alexa’s little classmates.

The clouds are embossed with the simply stunning Iridescent Ice embossing powder – so much sparkle!  And how lovely is that Pool Party ribbon???

Stamp Review Crew: Balloon Celebration stamp set. Sparkly Clouds Birthday Card. Kelly Kent -

Of course, I couldn’t make a card without adding some of those signature balloons using the coordinating punch (because we all love sets with coordinating punches).

It ended up being a subtle feature, but I actually tried to add in some shading on the balloons by stamping over the original image twice – each time blotting off ink from the right side of the balloon (which ends up being the left side of the stamped image!).  This is a great technique to use with photopolymer stamps as you can see through them to get that second & third inking just right.

That’s it from me today.  Keep hopping so you can get the full inspiration intake from the crew.  Next up is Dawn, who despite a self-confessed lack of mojo is totally rocking this stamp set!  Gold embossing powder is always a winner!

If you have time to leave us a comment or two as you hop around, we sure love hearing from you!  Kelly x

Crafting Before Housework – Bleach Technique

I love having my Tuesday class ladies over for a number of reasons but one of the crazier reasons is that they ‘inspire’ me to give my house a good clean before they arrive.  Housework is never a top priority of mine.  I really would rather be crafting! {And often do!}

Crafting comes before housework in the dictionary - as it should! Kelly Kent -

For one of this month’s class projects, I wanted to show the ladies the awesome technique of using bleach to remove colour from your cardstock – which creates a great marbled effect.  I do see the irony in buying bleach for crafting rather than cleaning… but I’m running with it!

These were my sample cards using Cherry Cobbler, Blackberry Bliss & Island Indigo.  The beautiful big Swallowtail shows this technique off beautifully.

This technique works better for some colours than others.  My favourite is the Island Indigo – the colour mix you end up with is very special.

During the class we also tried Wisteria Wonder (it actually looked stunning – Helen is working hard at changing my so-so position on Wisteria Wonder), Night of Navy (excellent contrast) and Hello Honey (just a subtle change).

You should try this at home.  The instructions are here from the first time I tried it out as part of an online challenge.

Your most basic bleach works the best but make sure you’re crafting in a well ventilated area!  Now I remember why I don’t clean much!!!  Kelly x

Press For Champagne!

My lovely sister-in-law made a very specific request for her birthday card this year.  She wanted something styled on the Lisa Golightly ‘Press for Champagne’ sign.  She even posted a picture on my Facebook wall – with lots of advance notice!

This was a super fun request and I decided as awesome as it would be to have a ‘Press for Champage’ card, what if the card had rotating options!

So, here we go Caris…. here’s your Press for Champagne birthday card…

Or, if you’re feeling a little more ugg boots & oversized jumper than LBD & stilettos…. here’s your Press for Hot Chocolate card too!

That’s right, the card has a spinner in it, so you can rotate the sentiment to be either champagne or hot chocolate depending on your mood.
