Project Love – Making Memories

Happy Valentine’s Day!  Mr Papercraft is unavailable this V-Day, so there wasn’t any pressure to get his card done by today (thank goodness – it’s been a crazy week!).

So, this morning’s agenda was a sleep-in, late breakfast and some craft time with the Little Misses.

It was a love theme all around with me making a Valentine’s Day card for Mr P and the misses making Valentine’s treat boxes.

Remember when I bought the Project Life Memories in the Making stamp set just for that delightful swirl stamp?  Well, it was time to fall in love with the whole stamp set…

And create this loved up card for Mr Papercraft.

Of course there’s some clear Wink of Stella glitter, gold embossing and some lovely layers!

Guess what?  The theme for this week’s Just Add Ink challenge is something starting with “V”… like Valentine’s Day!  So as exciting as the prospect of a volcano card with a lurking vulture at a fabulous vacation spot might be… I’m going to go with the boring theme of Valentine’s Day!

I really love this sweet card.  Happy Valentine’s Day Mr P – soulmates are hard to find, glad you’re mine!  Mrs Papercraft x

Just Add Ink 295 – I Love You Sew!

Hello!  Have you had a lovely start to the week so far?  We’ve just returned from a lovely camping trip to Molloy Island in the South West of Australia.  It’s a beautiful place I didn’t realise existed until just recently. What a hidden gem!

Camping doesn’t involve stamping, so I’ve had a lot of time over the past few days to think about what my Just Add Ink card will look like.  My starting inspiration for this week’s sketch challenge was a card I saw on Pinterest by Debbie Henderson that used the new two tone Baker’s Twine from the Occasions catalogue and the Love You Sew hostess stamp set to make little thread bobbins – so cute!

This is the JAI sketch…

Somewhere in the midst of the night sky, open air & freedom that camping provides, it occurred to me that the cute little Bow Paper Clips Embellishments from the Occasions catalogue would make great bobbins.

Turns out, I have good ideas when I’m out camping!

And then, because I had so much fun making this card with my little bobbin twine clips, I made another card using similar elements…

Dear Mr Papercraft … You + Me = HAPPY

After a glorious week chasing the sunshine, we’re back on deck. It was a lovely break with warm weather, good food and excellent company.

With batteries recharged and a little spring in my step, it was back to the craft table to make an anniversary card for Mr Papercraft.

Just Add Ink 280 had a glimmer theme this week – perfect!  What’s better to celebrate love than some sparkle & bling!?!

I took inspiration for the colour scheme from one of this year’s hot Christmas combinations – black, white & GOLD!!! which I think takes the glimmer to a totally awesome masculine level. It also helps to keep things simple.

I used my e-cutter for this creation, but it would also look great using the Little Letters thinlits.

Here’s what Mr Papercraft got this morning filled with glittery sweet nothings.

Happy Anniversary Mr Papercraft.  You are my biggest supporter, best companion & the best kind of annoying a girl could ever ask for!  Can’t wait for the happy adventures of the next 10 years.  Mrs Papercraft x

Choose Love!

My Facebook feed this weekend has been taken over by the amazing news that the US supreme court has ruled in favour of same-sex marrige in all 50 states in America.  A decision I think that has been a long time coming.  If only the Australian government could show the same maturity and stop the discrimination cycle in Australia!  #chooselove.

So, with this theme in mind, my card for today is a celebration of love that involves everyone – no matter of your gender, race, religion or beliefs.

It uses the Just Add Ink 268 sketch:

Stampin’ Up! head office has also issued a creative challenge – create a project using at least two of the four punches listed below:

Pansy Punch

Now we know I {LOVE} my punches… and what’s more perfect for heart punches than a #chooselove theme?

imageBest wishes to all the couples in America who will be saying “I do” over the next year.  Looking forward to the day when all Australians can do the same!  [rant over!]. Kelly x

Stepping It Up – ESAD, JAI263 & FMS187

Hello!!!  It was quiet on the blog front over the weekend because I got to escape!!!  3 wonderful days of a child-free mini-break in the big city with some girlfriends.  That’s right, I left Mr Papercraft and the little misses to their own devices and I ran away.

But, I couldn’t leave them (or the craft table) for too long … so I’m back with a bang – three challenges this week!

1. ESAD Demo Designs set by Rebecca McHaffie – to create a beginner’s/simple card and a ‘stepped up’ version of the same card

2. Just Add Ink are adding all things wedding this week, and …

3. Freshly Made Sketches have provided this sketch:

So, with these as my guidelines, I set to work.

This is the simple card I made using some of the products we’re not going to see after 2nd June including the “Your Perfect Day” photopolymer stamp set, Something Borrowed DSP (sniff!) and Labels Framelits:

And then I added some elements to ‘step it up’.

Which got me to thinking… What is it that takes a card from good to great?  And I’ve narrowed it down to 4 main things:

  1. Texture – by adding or enhancing your embellishments, you can add lots of texture to a card that gives it that little something extra.  On this card, I’ve added the bow, embossed the sentiment in gold rather than stamping in a matte colour and added in the patterned DSP.
  2. Layers – adding more layers to a card makes it look more ‘finished’.  Adding a background or mat to a piece of cardstock helps to give your elements more definition.
  3. Dimension – cards with only one layer don’t jump out as much as cards that have increased depth.  Stampin’ Dimensionals are your best friend and on this card I’ve used them to not only raise the ‘congrats’ sentiment but also the main rectangular centrepiece.
  4. Colour – the neutrals of the first card are lovely, but by adding in the gold, the card goes from lovely to special.  Gold is one of my favourite go-to colours for weddings!  I’ve also added in Very Vanilla hearts to complete the ribbon and give the card some balance.

I hope some of the tips above give you some food for thought when designing your next card.  You may also like my 10 tips for getting it right post for more ideas on creating cards to be proud of!  There is such a thing as adding too much to a card, so you want to be sure that everything you add has a purpose.

While on the wedding theme, I wanted to show you a cute little bridal shower gift I made using the stunning Something Borrowed DSP {I’ve said how much I love this DSP before – right?}.

This is made using the soon to be released Gift Bag Punch Board which is so easy to use.  To make up for some of the retiring favourites, you’ll want to add this to your collection!

I started with DSP that was 11″ (which equals the medium size for the punch board) by 7.5″.  I then followed the punch board instructions which gave me the basic bag design.  I cut the front panel out using my Big Shot & Labels framelits and fitted a piece of window sheet in behind to create a peek-a-boo bag.

So cute!!!  This one has some beautiful Body Shop shower gel & body lotion in it (perfect for the bride’s big day) or you could fill it with chocolates or tissues or lip gloss.  Whatever you thought the bride needed.  This would also be a great gift for a birthday, thank you, baby shower … Just a great gift really.  And so quick to make.

The Gift Bag Punch Board cuts all the flaps you need, scores in the right places and then makes holes in the top for ribbon.  And there are instructions for 3 great widths with heights from 4″ through to 12″.  I’m looking forward to seeing what clever ideas pop up on Pinterest for it in the next couple of months.

If you’d like to see the Gift Bag Punch Board (and lots of other new catalogue products) in action and you live local, please RSVP to my catalogue launch event.  I’d love to see you there!  Kelly x

Tree Builder Punch – be prepared to get more than you bargained for!

I know you’re going to love the tree builder punch, so I don’t have to “sell” it to you … but wait until you see it’s full potential and you won’t be able to resist adding it to your very first order!

Not only does it make the obvious tree that it’s name suggests – like my life cycle of the apple tree screen card…

But you can use the pieces to make such a variety of cards/themes.  Especially when you add in the Sprinkles of Life stamp set…

Floating Hearts – JAI259 & FMS182

Friends of mine celebrated their 1st wedding anniversary on the weekend.  This is the card I made for them using the Just Add Ink (sequins!) & Freshly Made Sketches as my inspiration.

Nothing says love like hearts!  How cute are the heart sequins making the hot air balloon string!?!

Did I mention that the retirement list comes out tomorrow!  One thing I know for sure is that all Crisp Cantaloupe items will be on there – cardstock, ink, ribbon, DSP, sequins…  The 2013-2015 In Colors are retiring and making way for 5 NEW colours!

Anyways, see you tomorrow for the full list.  In the meantime, Happy Anniversary to Ciara & Jason!  Kelly x

Whimsy Wedding – Cake Topper Bunting

It’s the middle of the wedding season and I was asked by my cousin, who is a cake designer in Bunbury, to create some wedding themed bunting for a wedding expo she was going to.

I made three different options for her to show her customers and reminded her that since everything I make is made from scratch, it is fully customiable!

That’s the wonderful thing about handmade – it’s created just for you.  Have a name with unusual spelling – no problems, want a specific saying – easy done, need it match your colour theme – totally possible!

Simple & elegant “Mr & Mrs” banner using the Pennant Builder Punch, Skinny Mini Alphabet & heart punch from Itty Bitty Accents.

Classic love birds with a kissing heart!  Made using the Bird Builder Punch, Your Perfect Day Stamp Set & heart from the Owl Builder Punch.

And the final one is my favourite – “Just Married” using the Tree punch, Little Letters Thinlits, and Linen Thread.  The ‘scrunchy’ flowers were made using the brown paper SU! use for packing orders, coloured with Bermuda Bay ink and cut with the 1-1/4″ scallop circle punch.

Weddings are special occasions and it’s a nice touch to be able to make something special just for the big event!  Kelly x
