Happy Birthday to Nanna Papercraft

Nanna and Grandad Papercraft have birthdays that are just 3 days apart. That makes for a busy stretch, especially when you add in the OnStage event in the mix too! So, I am only just getting to sharing the card I made for Nanna Papercraft. You can see Grandad Papercraft’s card by clicking here. That was lots of fun to make!

There’s always a little bit of pressure when making a card for another papercrafter. Especially one who is your Mum and you know what she likes! Mum (Nanna Papercraft) loves finding and making all the cool fancy folds. She often inspires the fancy things we do in classes – I’m much more of a ‘standard card’ kind of girl.

I found this style of card when scrolling through Pinterest for a new and exciting fold to try. Visit the blog of Tina Shaw for her creation plus instructions and measurements. Thanks Tina!

It’s called a Double Fan Fold – and is beautifully glorious! The card folds using a system of clever scored lines.

But also opens up to a full rectangle…

It doesn’t fold in half like a traditional card, so the writing panel is on the back –

Since Nanna Papercraft is a lover of all Stampin’ Up! – including retired classics, I chose to pull out some of the prettiest DSP that I’ve been keeping for a special card. This gorgeous design is from the Bird Ballad DSP. In many ways, retired DSP becomes more precious than current supplies, because there’s no way to order more!

I’ve paired the DSP with the coordinating stamp set which was released in the Hugs from Shelli Paper Pumpkin kit last year. Did you see that there’s a Christmas themed Paper Pumpkin kit currently available??? We so rarely get Paper Pumpkin (the US gets it every month), so it’s a fabulous opportunity to see what all the fuss is about. For $37 (plus delivery), you’ll get a limited edition stamp set, ink spot and supplies to make 8 fabulous Christmas cards. Click here to see it in the online store.

The greeting for this card uses the ‘birthday’ die from the Well Written Dies – with Foam Adhesive Sheet to give it texture & height, and the ‘love’ in white heat embossing on Early Espresso cardstock from the Well Said stamp set.

The foil accents for the card are Champagne – it has such beautiful pink tones that I knew it would coordinate well with the Petal Pink card base.

This card is oversized and doesn’t fit into a standard envelope. Because I was seeing Nanna Papercraft for her birthday, I decided not to make an envelope, but instead tied it closed with a ribbon.

Which was just perfect for arrival, before it then made it’s home on the dresser.

The design is free standing when you tweak the folds, which makes it a perfect fancy fold to send for the recipient to display. It reminds me of the meme that floats around about not being able to put an email or text message on the mantlepiece.

Giving cards is definitely less trendy these days – but the joy of receiving something special is still alive and well!

Happy Birthday month to Nanna Papercraft! So glad we got to celebrate with you x
