Hi! You are going to love this week’s Just Add Ink theme – we’re adding “fancy folds”. The main blog post over at Just Add Ink will be a great place to visit for endless inspiration from the design team and contributing designers in the gallery to keep us trying different styles of folds for many projects to come!
I love to try out fancy folds that trend over the year. Although not new, I’ve seen a few different versions of this Accordian Style Fancy Fold pop up recently – and it’s lovely to see it make a resurgence because I haven’t tried it before.
It’s a single layer (ie, not folded) card base with a folding layered cart front. It is a beautiful way to show off the pretty patterns of a DSP.
I used the now retired Bird Ballad DSP as I’m still waiting (not so patiently) for Australia Post to deliver the new DSP designs from the 2020 Annual Catalogue.
I’ve adapted this card from Lisa Curcio in the US. Lisa has a great video tutorial and measurements for US sized cardstock. You can see Lisa’s blog post by clicking here.
My version uses A4 cardstock (suitable for the South Pacific – Australia & New Zealand and UK / Europe). I’ve also used a ribbon to hold the accordion fold together (Lisa used a belly band).
Here’s the measurements needed for A4 cardstock:
- Cardstock Base: 4-1/8″ x 5-7/8″
- Mat for Base: 3-7/8″ x 5-5/8″
- Cardstock for Accordion pull out: 4 3/4″ x 11″, score at 3″, 5-1/2″, 8″ and 9-1/2″
- Designer Paper – front & first fold: 1-1/4″ x 4-1/2″ (cut two)
- Designer Paper middle folds: 2-1/4″ x 4-1/2″
- Designer Paper base: 1/2″ x 4-1/2″
- Thick Whisper White (insert): 2 1/8″ x 4-1/2″
With the pretty ribbon feature on the front, this card won’t fit into a normal envelope very easily, but it does fit into a C6 Acetate Card Box which can be posted in Australia as a large letter. Thanks to Elizabeth Gross for sharing this tip!
I can’t wait to use the new catalogue DSP designs with this style of fancy fold and show off some new patterns!
Be sure to visit the Just Add Ink blog to see the fancy folds the rest of the design team shared, and share a favourite to our gallery.
Have a great weekend!
