Happy Birthday to ….. ME! It’s my birthday today and I’m blessed to be spending some of it blogging with my stamping family. These ladies are such a wonderful part of my life and I’m so grateful to have them with me in this part of my papercraft journey. This is the perfect way to celebrate!
Because it’s my birthday (well birth “month” actually – because … why not!!) I’ve asked the team to CASE the Birthday Girl! So, the team have chosen designs I’ve shared on my blog and put their own spin on it.
We’re lucky to be joined by the super talented Tanya Rees. Her style is gorgeous (and she is too!).
My blog started in October 2013 and in my very first post I shared a baby sampler I’d made for friend’s new little man. It used Bermuda Bay, Island Indigo, Coastal Cabana and Whisper White – still one of my favourite ombre colour choices to this date.
The second project I shared was a card using the cult classic Owl Punch. Although long retired, I still have mine in my collection. This was one of the first builder punches Stampin’ Up! produced and resulted in many punch art creations that were not actually owls!!!
This is the first card I blogged and the one I have decided to CASE today and do a 2020 version…
Using the same layout and colours and 6 more years of experience playing with paper, stamps and inks, here is the update –
I love the finesse of the Bird Ballad DSP. It takes a little patience to fussy around around the images, but that is time well spent to add a beautifully coloured artwork to the front of my card. The striking yellow for this card is from the Best Dressed DSP. I’ve had this on my desk, waiting patiently to be used. Yellow is such a wonderfully happy colour!
The top note shape of my original card has been replaced with a scalloped stitched rectangle from the Stitched So Sweetly Dies and stamped with Birthday Wishes from the Itty Bitty Birthdays stamp set.
Although I like both yellow and green, my tastes over the years have changed and current style often features one strong colour with a neutral. So I’ve done another update, and changed the card up to a Petal Pink & Sahara Sand that is much more my 2020 style! Time will tell what my 2026 style will be!!!
Isn’t it funny how colour trends, our personal style and what’s available in the catalogue influence what we make across the years!
I love this layout and I’m thinking I should go back and do this for more of my cards with some of the new products coming out in June!
These birds are just the sweetest – and really do make it so easy to add prettiness to your cards! Last I checked, this DSP is still available in the online store – and at a discount! Click here to visit.
I’d love it, as a birthday gift to me, if you could visit all of the blogs on the hop and leave a little message for my wonderful team. It’s so nice to hear that people are reading our blogs and enjoying what we are sharing!
The next blog from here is our guest designer, Tanya Rees, who makes stunning cards!!
Thank you for being part of my birthday!

Wow Kelly, what a journey this has been for you and I am so happy I am part of this journey. Fantastic idea to case your owl card. Your 2020 cards are gorgeous as always and I do love fussy cutting out those birds. Thanks for being you and have a wonderful birthday and birthday month! Mandy x
I love that you’ve done an update in the same colour family so you can see a much more modern version of the card, and then an update update 🙂 I love your owl card, it is very much old Kelly style. You made so many fabulous owl creations. Your CASEd versions really do look so much more modern though. Love seeing such a good representation of how you and Stampin’ Up! have evolved. 🙂 Siobhan.
Loved this hop, so fantastic to see everyone’s cards from your blog and how things have changed in styles….Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday, fabulous cards, hope you had a wonderful day.
Many thanks for sharing 🙂
I absolutely loved going through your blog and looking at all the amazing projects you have put together, and thinking about all the smiles you have created for the recipients of the cards along the way. Fabulous modern takes on your owl card, I really will miss the bird ballad paper when it is gone. I hope you have had a happy birthday x
Oh my, what a blast from the past. I remember this card from when we both started our journey. You have come a long way Kelly and your new creations show your amazing creativity xx

Oh wow Kelly I love that you’ve cased one of your earliest projects it’s a great example of how not only has your papercraft has developed over time but how SU products have changed over time too.
