CASEing the Catty #230 | Retiring Big Shot

Image may contain: text

There’s only one more CASEing the Catty blog hop after this one before we say GOODBYE to the 2018-2019 Annual Catalogue & 2019 Occasions Catalogue and HELLO to the 2019-2020 Annual Catalogue.

This week is all about retiring Big Shot projects.  Did you know that the Big Shot machine itself – and all accessories – are retiring from the Stampin’ Up! line.  Stampin’ Up! have parted ways with Sizzix and have lined up another source to manufacture dies & embossing folders from the new catalogue onwards.  I’m excited for the changes that this choice will allow!!!

Choosing one favourite project using Big Shot products is almost impossible!  I use die cuts & embossing on almost every card I make.  After much deliberation, my card is a hybrid of the photo inspiration (Needlepoint Elements) and a die set I’m sad to see on the retirement list – Detailed Dragonfly.

The card that inspired by project is at the bottom right of the photo below.

I’ve used the layout elements, but changed the colours to a purple palette – as this is a favourite of the birthday recipient.

My purple trio: the card base & mat is Highland Heather and also Highland Heather DSP from Needlepoint Nook,  the large dragonfly is Gorgeous Grape and the label sentiment from the Needlepoint Elements is one of the new In Colors – Purple Posy.  The tones are all very similar, so it makes it perfect for layering these purples.

I’ve added vellum dragonflies under the stitched silver foil centrepiece.  The dots are stamped in Versamark (but not heat embossed – this gives a nice tone-on-tone stamping effect).  And the card is finished with pearls.

We’d love for you to join us for this challenge.  You can either CASE a project and use retiring Big Shot items (like I have) or you can select a photo from the catalogue feature retiring Big Shot products and change it up to include new or carryover products.  There’s so much potential!

All the action during the week for CASEing the Catty happens in our Facebook group.  Join the 1000+ members by clicking here.

Continue the hop to see more amazing projects by the CTC Crew.  Next up is the beautiful Judy May with her stunning creation…

Have a glorious week!

  1. Don’t those 3 purples go nicely? Lovely CASE Kelly, and I’m sad to see this one on the list as well. Love the vellum underlay and the versamark stamping for that little touch.

  2. Beautiful card. I love the purple tone on tone effect and how well they work together. The vellum dragonflies are a lovely soft touch and of course that silver centre is the perfect pop of sparkle. – Siobhan.

  3. Wow, this is so pretty! The DSP works so perfectly with the dragonflies. Love the little vellum ones too. Beautiful card with so many really sweet little extra details.
