Do you have a favourite category of Stampin’ Up! products? I love so many of the things in the catalogue, but DSP is the one thing I buy every design, every catalogue – so I’m putting DSP at the top of my favourites list.
So, it was exciting to find out this month that Stampin’ Up! are offering a buy 3, get 1 free offer on the whole range of standard ($19.25) DSP patterns. There’s 10 to choose from!
Once you’ve got your 4 new packs of paper, you’ll be after some ideas on making the most of them! So, join me on a blog hop with my ESAD friends to see how these crafty ladies are using their DSP!
With my love of DSP (and lots of choice of patterns), I have collated a few of my favourite ways to use DSP to create simple but elegant cards.
I’ve used the designs available as part of the buy 3, get 1 free promotion to demonstrate each style in action.
FEATURE
A whole card front of DSP is the easiest way to use your DSP. Cut it up, enjoy the beautiful patterns & show your family and friends that you care about them enough to use your pretty paper on their card!
Garden Impressions
Tropical Escape
RIP
Most of the time we cut our DSP with a trimmer (or scissors) and have a nice straight line. The composition of DSP gives a lovely edge when you rip it. One of my favourite quick & easy card designs is to cut a piece of DSP slightly longer (ie, 6″) and rip the bottom third. Flip it over to show the reverse side and adhere both pieces to form your card front. Add a bit of twine & a sentiment for an awesome card.
Animal Expedition
Tranquil Textures
You don’t have to use the bottom third – the ripped edge creates a lovely contrast to the card base (and a great place to put a sentiment!).
STRIP
A strip of cardstock is a great way to show off the patterns of a DSP and get multiple cards from a 6″ piece. Or it’s a great way to use the 2″ strips left over from card fronts when using 6″x6″ DSP (either the stacks sold by Stampin’ Up! or in a paper share).
Twinkle Twinkle
Wood Textures
PANEL
This is a twist on using cardstock as a whole card front. Cut your cardstock 1/4″ (0.5cm) smaller than the usual width, then divide the width into three equal portions and cut into panels. Keep them in order and stick to your card base with equal spacing. Using panels just adds a bit of extra interest and texture to your card!
Petal Promenade
Under the Mistletoe
BANNER
Banners are a favourite of mine on simple cards (well any card really!). The Triple Banner punch makes this really easy, but you can cut banners using scissors too. Layer up a few awesome patterns from the DSP (front & back or a couple of different sheets) and add some twine & a sentiment to finish.
Nature’s Poem
Best Route
Please CASE (copy) these layouts for your own card making, classes or blog posts. Beautiful DSP likes to be chopped & used – it doesn’t like to sit in plastic!!!
