Hello & welcome! It’s the second Colour INKspiration of the month – we run on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month.
There’s a whole fortnight to play with this amazing colour combination…
I know it’s going to challenge some and delight others. But after seeing what you did with Colour INKspiration #8 and those moody brown & yellow tones, I’m so excited to see what designs this bring.
Make sure to follow this hop all the way through to see the amazing creations of the Colour INKspiration Crew. I’m always honored to be part of such amazing design teams!
Find us on Facebook to play along too.
When I saw this colour theme, I did a quick survey of some crafty friends to see what came to mind for blue & red tones – and nautical was the winner!
Which gave me the perfect opportunity to use my High Tide stamp set from the Occasions catalogue.
I’m delighted to share that this stamp set will appear in the 2017-2018 Annual Catalogue, which starts 1st June.
I’ve been wanting to make a card that utilises a panel style. I have no idea what the official name is. Let’s call it a peekaboo panel card…???
The white pieces on the front are joined by the lighthouse panel…
I think this style of card can also be made with a window sheet holding it all together, but the Thick Whisper White cardstock worked just fine!
The measurements:
- Cut a piece of Whisper White Thick cardstock to 5-7/8″ (14.8cm) x 5-1/2″ (13.8cm) and score along the 5-1/2″ (13.8cm) edge at 4-1/8″ (10.5cm)
- Cut another pieces of Whisper White Thick cardstock to 5-7/8″ (14.8cm) x 1-1/2″ (3.8cm)
- And a third piece of WW Thick CS to 1-7/8″ (4.8cm) x 4-1/8″ (10.5cm)
- Cut a piece of Dapper Denim to 2-1/4″ (5.6cm) x 4-1/8″ (10.5cm)
- Cut a piece of DSP to 5-5/8″ x 3-7/8″ (14.2 x 9.8cm) {I used the Pool Party square design from the Tasty Treats DSP}
To make:
- Fold & crease the large piece of WW into a ‘card front’
- Stamp the partial lighthouse stamp in Cherry Cobbler on the 1-7/8″ x 4-1/8″ WW panel
- Ink up the full lighthouse stamp in Cherry Cobbler, stamp off onto scrap, then stamp over the top of the first lighthouse image
- Adhere the lighthouse panel to the Dapper Denim cardstock, leaving a small border on the left and a larger border on the right
- Stamp the seagulls in Dapper Denim on the top panel of the card front (to the right side)
- Add masking tape to the bottom part of the happy birthday sentiment from the Lift Me Up stamp set. Ink up in Cherry Cobbler ink, remove the masking tape, then stamp on the bottom right of the 5-7/8″ x 1-1/2″ WW panel
- Tie Linen Thread (wrapped twice) around the happy birthday piece of cardstock.
- Adhere the DSP to the inside of the card front
- Line up the happy birthday panel along the bottom of the card front.
- Using dimensionals, adhere the lighthouse panel to the seagull panel and the happy birthday panel.
I think you’d have to be a bit creative with this card about where you wrote your message.
But with a card this fun, I don’t think the recipient will mind!
Next up the stunning creation of the amazingly talented Rose Packer…

definitely a fun card kelly, thanks for the dimensions and instructions. it’s all the little details that make this great, like the denim being wider on one side, the linen thread etc, and of course the mechanism. Love it
Ooh …. love that you can make this without a window sheet…. I hadn’t thought of using Thick WW. Love that tip. Such a perfect stamp set for this challenge. Love the textures you have added.
Lovely card design, Kelly. You’re messing with my head though because this challenge only goes for two weeks. CI10 will be a longer one.
Oh dear Bron – I don’t even know what day it is at the moment! Thanks for keeping me on track – post updated!
