Shaving Foam Technique – GDP030

Hello!  Late night post for me – I’m trying to squeeze in my Global Design Project card before the deadline!

Deadlines are the ultimate motivation for me.  Though this past week has been insanely busy – so it’s necessity rather than choice this time around!

The sketch by Teneale Williams for GDP this week was too good to miss.  She’s one of my favourite designers and has a style I love. Which means her sketches are always wonderful!

When I saw this sketch I knew I wanted to use it to try out the shaving foam technique.  I’m amazed it’s taken me this long – it was so simple & lots of fun!

With my first shaving foam ‘smush’, I made the background on this card:

This was another variation I got as a secondary imprint – using the foamed up piece of cardstock as a base rather than the original inky shaving foam.  It gives a much more subtle effect and a nice alternative option.

Make your own shaving foam background:

  1. Place a good amount of shaving foam in a container
  2. Add several drops of reinker in your chosen colours (I used Lost Lagoon, Pool Party & Smoky Slate)
  3. Using a toothpick or skewer, gently mix your ink into the shaving foam {note: the more mixing you do, the more uniform the colour will become)
  4. Place your cardstock face down into the shaving foam/ink mix and smooth out the foam underneath
  5. Optional: place another piece of cardstock against the first piece to get a secondary imprint
  6. Wipe the excess foam from your cardstock & allow to dry

This would look great in so many colours, but does look particularly effective in my sea theme with the “From Land to Sea” stamp set.

And the bonus of the shaving foam technique??? My craft table smells pretty!  Kelly x

  1. They look really nice , the colours are spot on as usual for you . You know you can reuse the shaving cream a few more times by adding more ink .

  2. OMG Kelly, these are awesome!! I am so glad you finally tried this technique – it’s messy, but fun and adds a fabulous background to your projects. Thanks for playing at Global Design Project.

  3. I really love these Kelly! What a great stamp set to use with the shaving cream technique. Thank you so much for playing along with this week’s Global Design Project challenge! We love you playing along with us. 🙂
