Why are neutral cards the best to have in your stash? Because you can give them to anyone!
This is a card we made at 2 of my classes last week. It celebrates everything I love about neutral cardmaking. Scroll down past the photo for my top tips.
I am in love with this card! I could make this card (and ones like it) every day of the week and never tire of the style.
What are my top 3 tips for designing neutral cards?
- Use a stamp set with images from nature like the Wetlands & Hardwood Background stamp sets. These type of images are familiar to everyone, not feminine (if you choose the right set) and go well with my next tip.
- Choose natural/coastal tones (think blues, greys, browns, greens) – like the Lost Lagoon, Tip Top Taupe & Very Vanilla in this card. This serene colour combination is just beautiful, a good netural base for any theme or card and not typical of either of the genders.
- Select rustic embellishments. Extra finishing touches on a card – especially ribbon – can automatically tip it into ‘girl zone’. So, to keep it neutral, stick with rugged options like burlap ribbon or metallic touches (ie, staples, buttons).
And the final bonus tip – keep it simple!
I know making cards suitable for every recipient (especially the men in your life) is challenging, but if you use these tips as a guide, it’s hard to go wrong!
Need some more neutral basics? You can buy any of the products I used in this card in my online store.
If you’re in Australia and don’t have a regular demonstrator, I’d love to have you as part of my journey (either as a customer or part of Team Papercraft). I love new customers & team members (pssttt… did I mention I love spoiling people?). If you’re shopping online, the March host code for your shopping cart is U4HR3CGY.
