Today I was child-free, husband-less and totally devoid of all commitments!!! For some of you, this may not induce hysterical happy dancing – but for me, with a crazy-busy schedule and at least 1 permanent mini-shadow at all times, to have a day with nothing to do other than stamping, I was in heaven!
So, although I didn’t spend the day in pyjamas (I had to do school drop off first to get my day alone!), I did spend it at the craft table – with nothing on my agenda to make other than cards that make me happy. Cards that I wanted to make rather than from my to-do list of class prep, orders and upcoming birthdays! Wooo hoooooo!!!
The first card is my Just Add Ink entry for this week, inspired by the challenge photo….
My initial thought was to use Watermelon Wonder in a one-tone card creation…. But it’s just not a colour I love – so I put it back. What’s the colour you find hardest to use?
Instead, I took the soft pinks, greens & neutrals of the photo to create a sweet macaron card. I remember Carolina Evans making macarons with the Balloon Builders stamp set when we first got it at OnStage and tucked the idea away for a later date. They are the perfect accompaniment to the ‘sweet’ sentiment and pastel colours. I love macarons!!! And of course, as they are the paper verison, they have received Wink of Stella treatment.
And because I had the time, I {FINALLY} got the chance to join in for a challenge at the Global Design Project. I’ve been meaning to play along since they started last year!
It was a CASE the designer challenge. This was the inspiration card by Michelle Last…
And this is my card…
I loved the colours of Michelle’s card (especially the English Garden DSP) and butterfly feature, so kept those elements and used one of my favourite layouts with multiple banner layers.
Add a splash of gold embossing, a little ribbon & trim and the card is finished!
To sentiment or not to sentiment is always a difficult question, but I actually love a sentiment-less card, so with today being a day of absence, I went without.
Alas, my day alone is almost over as school pick-up looms. Back to late-night stamping – which actually suits me. Perversely, I am at my most creative between 10pm & midnight! I’m pretty sure I’m not alone is that. I wonder what it is about that time of night that leads to the best design work??? Kelly x

Gorgeous cards.
I know exactly how you feel! My 2 eldest are at uni (one 1st year 1 3rd year) I am counting down the days til they go back I might be lucky to get a few hours 🙂 Although at their ages they do let me play on my own 🙂
Thanks Vicki… uni days seem so far away for my girls! Going to have to steal a few more craft days between now and then to stay sane 🙂 Kelly x
Fab cards Kelly! I haven’t seen that macaron stamp set – it’s wonderful and looks good enough to eat! Great use of the colours from the inspiration pic. Thanks for joining us at Just Add Ink this week!
Thanks Narelle. Balloon Builders was the set we got in our bags at OnStage – so there’s a few samples floating about. I used it late last year to make ballerinas – very versatile! Kelly x
Night time for me Kel just like you …… just finished my card for this too 🙂 xx
by the way gorgeous creations too xo
Thanks Nic!
It was a midnight finish for me – not from crafting though but I got a rare houework urge!
Both cards are really beautiful, I love the coloring of your first card and the different patterns of the paper of your challenge-card.
Thanks Janine!
So glad you had some time to your stamps, because these are two wonderful cards. I have to say the butterfly card is gorgeous. I love the banners and all the added shine. Thanks for sharing with Global Design Project.
Thanks Shawn!
Both lovely cards Kelly – I can totally relate to your alone time heaven! I like how you have used the patterned vellum for your sentiment. Chantell JAI
Thanks Chantell. Let’s hope there’s more alone time for both of us on the horizon!
Isn’t it delightful when you get those rare moments of ME time!!! I loved hearing your thought process too Kelly and the end result is lovely. I love the graduated background and that delightful pile of macarons. Thanks for joining us this week at Just Add Ink.
Thanks Kim – so lovely to have alone time! But, I’m not sure about the random ramblings from my brain!!!
Both are great cards, but I particularly love the banner layering on the second one. So sweet.https://mypapercraftjourney.com/2016/02/23/my-not-so-challenging-day/
Thanks Brian!
