Go Slow Sunday – JAI274

How has your weekend been?  We’ve had a lovely ‘go slow’ weekend filled with play-time (for me & the kids), time spent with a good book, some glimpses of sunshine and a Sunday afternoon baking session.  By Bunbury standards, it’s cold at the moment, so let me tell you, we devoured the bread hot out of the oven with melted butter…. mmmmm!

In between baking demands, I managed to get some time at the craft table to make my card for Just Add Ink.  The inspiration for this week’s challenge was all about muted colours, wood tones & simplicity.

It took me a while to get going on this one.  Not because I didn’t like the inspiration, but because I {LOVED} the cards made by the design team.  I could have happily CASEd all of them!  But, that’s not allowed, so here’s my contributions for JAI 274.  I had a play with a couple of different layouts using the same elements – one of my favourite ways to increase my productivity without doubling the time.

I think the first one is my favourite with the overlapping layers.  The “HAPPY” is stamped in Soft Suede on both cards, but one before reinking and one after.  What a difference it makes (though the photography doesn’t show it up as much as the cards do)!  I often have to double check after reinking because I get paranoid that I’ve used the wrong colour!!!  As good as Stampin’ Up! ink pads are, they will need reinking over time to keep the intensity of colour – especially for the ones you use often.  It’s always a good idea to buy the reinker at the same time as you buy the ink pad so that you’re all set.  It also means you’ll be able to use your reinkers for cool techniques (like making a baby wipe into an ink pad, colouring white ribbon, creating watercolour backgrounds and more!).

Have you started on your Father’s Day cards yet?  Father’s Day in Australia is September 6th this year – 4 weeks to go.  Any ideas for Father’s Day presents would be greatly appreciated.  At the moment for Mr Papercraft all I’ve got on the list is quality time with the Little Misses and more SU! to keep the wife happy!  I might need some help!!!  Kelly x

  1. Great masculine cards, Kelly. You’ve definitely made the challenge your own & rocked it. Love the texture in both cards & the combinations of fonts you chose. I’m always amazed at what a difference reinking makes, although the lighter ones in the first card work well with the rustic feel of the card anyway.
Can’t help with pressie ideas as I’ve got nothing either at the mo.
Thanks for playing again at JAI & thanks too for your lovely comment on the DT’s creations.
    D 🙂

  2. This is one fabulous masculine card Kelly! I love how you’ve used the neutral colours and added texture and woodgrain to give a really earthy feel. Thanks for joining us at Just Add Ink this week!

  3. They are both great cards Kelly. You really captured the feel of the inspiration picture. I love all the wood grain elements you brought in. Thanks for joining us at Just Add Ink this week.
