Vroom Vroom!  Another birthday and more kids punch art!  This time it’s a Mater card, the tow truck from the Cars movie.

UPDATE:
I often include punch art directions, but Mater was a little ‘this & that’ – a creation of trial & error. But after a few requests for Mater instructions, I’ve given it a go. All measurements are approximate (I have since given the card away, so I am basing it all on the computer image and my memory!).

top of cab: double cut using oval framelits
cab: 1-1/2″ square wing
mirrors: 3/4″ square & rectangle from bow builder punch cut down to size
window: artisan label punch the top cut to match the shape you see
eyes: owl builder punch
body: 2″ square with corner rounding
engine: small oval double cut & owl builder punch
front: 2-1/4″ x 1-1/4″ rectangle
bumper: double cut using oval framelits
mouth: 1″ circle double cut with artisan label punch, strip is double cut using artisan label punch, teeth are snipped versions of the rectangle from the bow builder punch

  1. Hi Kelly … I love *The Cars* items you made and thanks for sharing. I was wondering if you would give directions on how you are made the card? I know the basic as far as big the card is all and all … just wondering what punches and what cuts you made for the truck? Thank you!

      • So sweet …. Thank you so much. I have a Grand Monster (grand son … lol) that loves The Cars and this will be super for his birthday next week. Awesome! Thanks again!

    • Hi Raelene – unfortunately the main punch for Lightning has now been retired but you might still have it in your collection. If not, the label bracket might work in the same way with a bit of snipping.
From memory, this is how I made the car on the curvy keepsake box:
Top part of car: Artisan punch with the bottom double cut with the XL oval punch
Window – Artisan punch with the bottom double cut with the XL oval punch (the other way around)
Eyes – 1/2″ circle & largest owl circle
Mouth – 1-3/4″ circle (I think) double cut
      Headlights – cupcake punch
      Body – XL oval punch
Wheels – Gap made at the bottom of the body using 1/2″ punch; wheels are word window punch
Hope that all works out! Kelly x
