You is Kind, You is Smart, You is Important – Thanks Milligan

“You is Kind, You is Smart, You is Important”

I love this quote from The Help book/movie.  It reminds me of the importance of belief in yourself & the power of positivity – something so special to develop in the leaders of tomorrow.

This card is one I made for Alexa’s final day at Milligan House – to say thank you to the staff who have truly nurtured her and given her a year of enrichment to develop her sense of ‘kind, smart & importance’.

I chose a blue lotus blossom to represent widsom, intelligence & knowledge.  I wanted to depict it in its most natural surroundings, so I used the water photo print from the Adventure Bound DSP stack and made lilypads using the large petal from Flower Fair.

The lotus blossom is a powerful symbol within the Buddhist belief system.  Each colour of lotus blossom has an associated meaning:

  • blue – wisdom, intelligence, knowledge
  • white – mental purity & perfection
  • purple – self awakening, truth & spirituality
  • pink – history of spirituality & it’s legends
  • red – love & compassion
  • gold – full enlightenment

It was fitting given the lotus blossom & it’s meaning, that the quote in the middle was also wise words.  I loved this Tibetan proverb:

So, thank you Milligan – for everything you’ve done & everything you’ve allowed Alexa to be.  We feel blessed to have been part of your family and look forward to sharing with you the joys of the next part of the journey.  Kelly x

Crazy, Happy, Love

Another Occasions 2015 ‘love’ has been the Crazy about You stamp set & Hello You thinlits.  Crazy about You has all the words you’ll need this year to make every card possible – birthday, babies, love, thinking of you, just because/generic, mother’s day, father’s day, easter … there’s 30 different sentiments to choose from and three lovely garden themed stamps to embellish with.  And when you add one of the four Hello You die cut words (happy, you, hello, thanks), you’ll never be lost for words.

crazy about you bundle

This was my first play with this bundle.  You definitely want to use wax paper for these thinlits or you’ll end up with a not-so-happy finish.  Kelly x

Butterfly Basics – the hit of Occasions 2015 [and my product “miss”]

There are sooooo many lovely products in Occasions 2015 – it’s hard to choose a favourite (much like choosing a favourite child I think!).  But based on my Pinterest feed, the Butterfly Basics stamp set & Butterfly framelits have definitely been popular.

butterfly basics PP set

There has been lots of discussion & sharing for tips that help with getting great butterfly die cuts.  My favourite two are:

  • 3 layers of waxed paper – under the cardstock, between the cardstock & the die and on top of the die
  • using dryer sheets under the cardstock.  I hear fragrance free dryer sheets are hard to get in Australia (try shops or online companies that import US products as they are popular in the US), but these are supposed to work much better than the fragrance filled ones available (though both will work).

This was the first card I made using my butterfly bundle.  The stamp set style is quite ‘shabby chic’, so perfect for layering.

And this is my ‘how did I miss that moment’…  Stampin’ Up! sells a beautiful product called Vanilla Shimmer Smooch Spritz.  It’s not new … but I have only just added it to my collection.  A couple of little sprays gives your card a wonderful, magical shimmer – perfect!  It gives the butterfly a little bit of extra “wow”!  Anyway, I have it now (and have everything crossed that it’s carrying over to the next catalogue), so will smooching & spritzing my way through 2015!  Kelly x

Sale-A-Bration Workshop – Lotus Blossom Screen Card

It was a family affair this morning at Maureen’s house for her Sale-A-Bration workshop.  Maureen, and her granddaughter Cate, had a few requests for their project.  A screen card using 2013-2015 In Colours with the Lotus Blossom Stamp Set.  This is the card we made – can you spot all the products you can earn for Free during Sale-A-Bration?  I think I’ve found a new favourite Lotus Blossom combination – how lovely is the lotus on the right?  Crisp Cantaloupe & Strawberry Slush!  The measurement for the screen card is 8″ x 5-7/8″ (half an A4 page with a bit trimmed off to make the measurements easier).  Scoring is at 2″, 4″ & 6″.

Everyone finished with a lovely lotus blossom card, all with their unique stamping spin on it.  They are true addicts – when I left them to it at 12.30pm, they still hadn’t finalised their list of goodies.  Probably because there are so many wonderful new products to choose from.  And then there’s the Stampin’ Rewards …  “I can choose how much for free?  Anything from the catalogue you say…”  It’s a difficult dilemma to have!  I did offer to help them by having some of their freebies live at my house!  Kelly x [PS, Offer denied].
