A Social Network Birthday – Instagram

I have been asked to make some cards that would be suitable for teenagers.  Handmade cards for kids and adult feamles are easy.  Teenagers and males take a bit more thought!

I’m a social network fan – particularly Facebook – but I’m not an Instagram user.  From what I understand, it’s a photo sharing site and you can ‘follow’ people and friends and see their photos – one giant world-wide photo album!

I just love this “Instgram” card with it’s bright rainbow, Itty Bitty Accents and corner rounding.  Hopefully the teenager that ends up receiving this Instagram birthday card loves it too!  Perhaps it will end up on their Instagram???  Now wouldn’t that be interesting!  Kelly x

ESAD Blog Hop – 2014-15 Catalogue “Seeing Stars”

blog hop - AC 2014

It’s here!  The Stampin’ Up! 2014-15 Annual Catalogue started on 1st July – woo hoo!  Another success for Stampin’ Up! – 249 pages of glorious products to buy & projects to try.  I’ve signed up for another Blog Hop coordinated by the lovely ladies at ESAD.  This will give you 24 blogs to ‘hop’ your way through and see lots of new catalogue ideas!  If your hopping has already started, then you’ve come from Libby’s blog.  Next, you’ll be off to Amity’s blog (you can find the full list of bloggers at the bottom of this post).

What is ESAD?

ESAD stands for “Extra Special Australasian Demonstrators” and is a Facebook group just for Australian and New Zealand Independent Stampin’ Up! demonstrators.

We love what we do & love to share with our customers, friends and blog visitors. We also share what we love in our ESAD Demonstrator community, through swaps, challenges, sharing knowledge, ideas& friendship and we’re always there to help and support each other.

So if you are a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator located in Australia or New Zealand then please feel free to leave me a comment with your email address then I’ll contact you with information on how to join our group.

SEEING STARS: I’ve chosen a theme of ‘stars’ to share with you today.   There are quite a few stars within the Stampin’ Up! range.  Here’s a visual comparison of the different stars you can punch/die cut (including some retired ones for comparison in case you still have these in your collection):

Star Comparison-001

I think stars make for lovely male / neutral cards (and great female cards, kids cards, baby cards … suitable for all occasions in fact!).  My first star card is all about layers.   I loved the layered effect you can get when using Stampin’ Up!’s coordinating range.  Start by sponging ink through the new (and fabulous) Star Decorative Mask (133777) to create a background of cascading stars.  Add a couple of Stars Framelits (133723) with a stamped layer to add texture and a happy birthday message across the bottom.  The final result is a simple but stunning neutral card ready for that special someone.

IMG_0348

I then used the ‘negative’ created by the large Mossy Meadow start to create a 4″ square note card.  I added Mossy Meadow chevron DSP (from the In-Colour Paper Stack) and more stars to the middle.  By perfect coordination, the stamp I’ve used from Be the Star set matches with the smallest Stars Framelit & the star from the Itty Bitty Punch Pack.  5 of these note cards together would make a great gift!

“Hello Love” turns Goodbye

The staff at Alexa’s day care are wonderful – and very stable – so it’s going to be a sad day for them to say Goodbye to Katie who is moving up north.  The kids just adore Katie – she’s patient, kind & smiley – all of the best qualities for a child care worker.  This is the card I made for Alexa to give to Katie today.  Once again I went straight to the 2014-16 In Colours – they are just such nice tones!  We chose a sunshine theme to go with the sun cream we got her as a small gift to take up north.  The hostess only* stamp set – Hello Love has a cute little sun and I love those hearts dangling off the clouds.  We will miss you Katie – best of luck for your future adventures.  Kelly & Alexa x

* Specially priced hostess only stamp sets are available for purchase using hostess dollars which can be earned by hosting a $300+ workshop with your friends or ordering $300+ as a personal order.  Contact me if you’d like more information.

Frozen Themed Cards – Anna

Next on the big screen is Anna.  She is my daughter’s favourite and the hero of the movie!  One again, this princess punch art uses the Dress Up Framelits.  Princess cards are quite addictive!  Kelly x

How to make Princess Anna’s Dress:

  • Using the sleeveless dress framelit, cut out 2 Pacific Point dresses and 1 Basic Black dress
  • Cut 1 PP dress in half and leave one as is.
  • Either by freehand or using the Full Heart punch, create a ‘v’ shape in the middle of the BB dress.  Add Gold Foil to the back of the BB piece and cut around it to create a small gold border.
  • Using Rose Red, cut the largest die from the Apothecary Accents framelits set – cut this in half longways.
  • Cut two Rose Red 1-1/4″ circles.  Cut each again using the punch so you end up with an oval shape.
  • Cut a Tempting Turquoise 1″ circle for the neckline and a small strip of Elegant Eggplant for her cape (I used the now retired Horizontal Slot Punch).
  • Attach all the pieces together so they look like the picture below.  You may have to trim some of the pieces down so they fit better (especially the Apothecary Accent pieces).

Frozen Themed Cards – Elsa

I made a series of Frozen cards in the lead up to Maddie’s party as part of the fun.  I’ll start by sharing Elsa with you as she is the ‘pin-up’ girl of Frozen.  I am so sad that the Dress Up Framelits are now discontinued – they are perfect for princess cards.  Maybe you still have them in your collection like I do and my cards inspire you to make a Frozen card for a special princess you know!  Kelly x

How to make Queen Elsa’s Dress:

  • Using the sleeveless dress framelit, cut out 3 Tempting Turquoise dresses
  • Cut the straps from one dress, cut another one in half and leave one as is.
  • Either by freehand or using the Full Heart punch, create a ‘v’ shape in the middle of the strapless dress.
  • Again using the sleeveless dress framelit, cut just the top section of the dress using Vellum
  • Using Vellum, cut the largest die from the Apothecary Accents framelits set – cut this in half longways.
  • Attach all the pieces together so they look like the picture below.  You may have to trim some of the pieces down so they fit better (especially the Apothecary Accent pieces).
  • Jazz up Elsa’s dress using glitter – I used Crystal Effects & Dazzling Diamonds Stampin’ Glitter and Silver Sparkle Dazzling Details.

No better friend than a sister …

The birthday fun continues throughout this week.  I’m going to share as much of my Frozen party with you as I can.  I hope you enjoy it – I’ve had so much fun using my Stampin’ Up! supplies to create a beautiful birthday party for Miss M.  Where there is colour coordination – I’m in!!!

IMG_0313

Today’s share is another birthday card.  I thought a Frozen themed Anna & Elsa ‘sister’ card was perfect for Alexa to give to Maddie.  I’ve added the custom ‘no better friend than a sister’ saying across the top as this truly defines the special relationship the girls share – they adore each other.  Later in the week I will share individual Anna & Elsa cards.  I just love the drawing Alexa did for the middle of the card with a picture of her & Maddie.  They are so precious at this age!  Kelly x
